In the unknown century of Guangyuan, the unnamed galaxy achieved unification. To address population issues, a marriage matching system was developed, forcibly pairing people through data calculatio...
At first, Yu Zhen really disliked Lin Gu because he was always hanging around his brother, taking away a lot of his attention.
When he first arrived at the Yu family, Yu Wei, though he looked sickly, would still eat with him, teach him to read, take walks with him, tell him stories, and even specially have someone buy him a few little rabbits to keep him company.
But once Lin Gu arrives, he will drag Yu Wei around everywhere, and he will also use gifts to attract Yu Wei's attention and steal Yu Wei away from him in a despicable way.
What's even more infuriating is that Yu Wei's body is not suited for strenuous exercise, but Lin Gu, who has ADHD, insists on dragging him to climb trees and swim. Every time Yu Wei returns home, he is weaker than before he left.
Yu Zhen thought that his brother was like a candle. Although the light was dim because too many wicks had burned, he could still burn steadily.
Lin Gu is like that hateful pair of scissors that cuts off the candle wick; while it makes the flame brighter, it also accelerates the melting of the candle.
His hatred for Lin Gu lasted until he was nine years old. At that time, Yu Wei's body was already very weak. He was unconscious for 22 out of 24 hours a day. When he was awake, he could only lie in bed and read books and chat with him.
Yu Zhen stayed by his side every day, and every time Yu Wei fell asleep and woke up, he would silently thank God for his mercy.
"Xiao Zhen, is it sunny today?" Yu Wei, who was reading a story, suddenly looked up, glanced at the thick curtains, and then at the Wu Yan candle on the candlestick by the door. Her dark eyes seemed to be thinking about something.
"No...no." Yu Zhen, who had been listening intently, raised her head blankly, glanced at the curtains, concealed the tension in her eyes, and said without changing her expression, "I just saw that it was raining heavily outside."
He knew Yu Wei was bored staying in the house all day, and he knew Yu Wei wanted to go outside to play, but he couldn't tell him that today the weather was sunny and the wind was gentle, and children his age were playing football, having fun, and flying kites.
"He can't get sick again," Uncle Lin said. If his brother gets sick again, he'll never see him again.
"Really?" Yu Wei was stunned, his face full of disappointment, and he murmured, "I thought the weather would be sunny today."
He hasn't left this room for a year. He fell seriously ill last year and hasn't recovered yet.
Yu Zhen held his cold hand and said, "Maybe it will be sunny tomorrow."
Maybe tomorrow, you'll be able to go outside and see the world.
"Maybe." Yu Wei lowered his head. "Where were we reading just now?"
He didn't know how many tomorrows he had left.
Yu Zhen fell asleep without any suspicion. Little did he know that the fragile paper doll had quietly slipped away.
The news of Yu Wei's disappearance was like a pebble thrown into a shallow pond, creating huge waves. The extortion letter was soon delivered to Yu Zhen's desk.
Lin Ling and Yu Zhen didn't want Yu Zhen to know, but the news was already everywhere and couldn't be kept secret any longer. Yu Zhen felt like the sky had fallen and the whole world had been plunged into darkness.
On one hand, it was out of concern for Yu Wei, and on the other hand, he was also afraid of being sent away again. He knew very well that he only had a reason to exist if his brother was around.
So, standing by the door and waiting for Yu Wei became something he had to do.
Yu Zhen couldn't do anything about him, and Lin Ling couldn't persuade him either. After thinking it over, she went to ask Lin Gu if he would like to come and stay for a while.
Yu Zhen remembers it clearly: the day Lin Gu stepped off the spaceship with his small suitcase, the Eighth Planet, which had been raining for days, finally cleared up. The sky was dotted with stars, and the roses in the garden, glistening with dew, were exquisitely beautiful.
"Little brat, why are you crying?" Lin Gu, wearing a white shirt and overalls, his clean leather shoes clicking on the cobblestone path, squatted down and patted Yu Zhen's head. "Yu Wei ran away on his own, it has nothing to do with you..."
Upon hearing that name, Yu Zhen burst into tears. Lin Gu hurriedly wiped away his tears, saying, "Why are you crying! I just said one thing..."
"Brother...brother doesn't want me anymore..."
Yu Zhen cried so hard he could barely breathe and hiccuped. Lin Gu had no choice but to clumsily imitate Yu Wei, reaching out to hug Yu Zhen. "What are you afraid of? Yu Wei doesn't want you, but I do! Come home with me, and I'll be your brother from now on."
“You’re not…” Yu Zhen was even more upset. Lin Gu’s words were tantamount to telling him that his brother was not coming back and that he would never see him again.
“I said if… if you have to leave here…” Lin Gu gently patted Yu Zhen’s back, “then, let me be your brother, okay?”
Even though they were the same age, Lin Gu really seemed like an older brother to me at that moment.
Lin Gu's presence diverted a lot of his attention, or perhaps it was because of that sentence that had an effect. Yu Zhen still went to the door to wait for Yu Wei every day, but the person waiting had changed from one to two.
They had no idea what was happening outside until one day, the housekeeper took them to the hospital.
He saw Yu Wei, and... the boy with long red hair beside him. He was very handsome, though extremely thin, but his big eyes were bright and he always looked at everyone with a smile.
That child was completely different from him. He was bright, unrestrained, and proud, never as cautious as he was. Yu Wei's gaze was once again diverted, lingering on this vibrant life for a long time.
"Young Master..." He always called Yu Wei that casually. Yu Wei had no choice but to respond.
Whether it was because of the child or not, Yu Wei's condition improved a lot, and Yu Zhen was happy about it for a long time, until that winter when Yu Wei was pushed into the emergency room again.
Years later, he learned that it was called a final burst of energy before death. Like a candle, it always suddenly becomes brighter at the end of its burning journey, and then immediately goes out.
