In the unknown century of Guangyuan, the unnamed galaxy achieved unification. To address population issues, a marriage matching system was developed, forcibly pairing people through data calculatio...
When Qin Ge took Lin Nianyu home, Yu Wei and Lin Gu had just finished their conversation and walked out of the study one after the other. Yu Wei rushed into the kitchen to help, while Lin Gu sat on the sofa without saying a word, staring in the direction of the kitchen.
"Dad!" Lin Nianyu happily let go of Qin Ge's hand and ran to Lin Gu.
"Lin Nianyu, wash your hands and get ready for dinner."
Yu Zhen served the dishes to the table, not even bothering to glance at Lin Gu.
"Yu Yu, come here." Lin Gu beckoned to the little boy and pulled him to a corner: "Did you make your father angry today?"
"No, I didn't." The boy stood with his hands on his hips, his tone both angry and aggrieved: "He yelled at me as soon as he got home..."
After listening to Lin Nianyu's story, Lin Gu felt his temples throbbing. These two were harder to appease than the other.
"Alright, I'll talk to Uncle Qin tonight." Lin Gu patted the boy's head. "But how could you be so disrespectful to Uncle Qin?"
"No, he said we're friends."
"That's because he spoils you because you're young." Lin Gu patted Lin Nianyu's head and said patiently, "We can't take other people's kindness as a license to be willful. We have to be polite to everyone, understand?"
Lin Nianyu thought for a moment, then shook his head; he didn't understand.
All he knew was that his father, Zhen, would scold him, but his brother, Cen Jin, would not.
"Never mind, let's go wash our hands and eat first."
Lin Gu sighed. He was exhausted from having to soothe both the child and Yu Zhen.
With Qin Ge keeping the atmosphere lively, the meal wasn't too dull.
After dinner, Yu Zhen and Zhou Siyu ran to the room and were fiddling with something. Lin Nianyu blinked and pestered Yu Wei to tell her a story. Qin Ge and Lin Gu sat in the courtyard drinking and chatting.
"You're living a carefree life," Qin Ge said, peeling an orange. "With a beautiful wife in my arms and a lovely woman by my side, I'm so lucky."
"Do you want this good fortune?" Lin Gu rolled her eyes. "I have a terrible headache right now, and you can see that. Zhenzhen can't stand Cen Jin..."
“Yu Zhen isn’t the kind of person who holds grudges,” Qin Ge said confidently. “It must be that Cen Jin did something that Yu Zhen couldn’t stand.”
“He’s just bored.” Lin Gu took a sip of wine, looked up at the sky and sighed, puzzled. “He wasn’t like this when we were dating.”
"How can that be the same? Your relationship was so dramatic and exciting, it was earth-shattering!"
Qin Ge curled his lip. Back then, everyone knew that the lazy, good-natured soldier from the Lin family had run off with the fair-skinned, beautiful, and kind-hearted young master from the Yu family.
Yu Zhen was not a direct descendant of the Yu family, but his parents died early, and with the Yu family bloodline dwindling, he was taken in by the main family to be raised. Apart from Yu Wei, the old master Yu loved this grandson the most, and even the youngest Yu Cong could not make him look at him.
But only Lin Gu knew how wild Yu Zhen was behind the scenes, despite her gentle and quiet demeanor. At school, she was a quiet, well-behaved, and academically excellent student, but after school, she transformed into a hoodlum who smoked, drank, fought, and did everything.
Although he differentiated into an Omega, he inherited the fighting genes inherent in the Yu family, coupled with his ruthless and fearless nature, which naturally made him the biggest gang leader within a ten-mile radius of the school.
Unfortunately, this kid was cunning and a skilled actor, and Lin Gu suffered a lot from dealing with him. Half of the beatings he got from him were thanks to Yu Zhen.
"A true hero doesn't dwell on past glories." Lin Gu stretched, looked up at the sky, and leaned back slightly.
"What, regretting it now?" Qin Ge rolled his eyes at Lin Gu. "You're smitten with Cen Jin?"
Lin Gu had a first love, just like Cen Jin—gentle and pure, but she died later, becoming a true white moonlight.
"No regrets." Lin Gu shook his head. "I used up all the luck in my life to meet Yu Zhen and be with him. I'm very lucky."
"Then why did you leave Cen Jin at home?" Qin Ge wanted to pry open his head to see what was inside. "To keep him as a decoration?"
“I couldn’t do anything about it, he was too weak.” Lin Gu rubbed his temples. “He couldn’t even protect himself. I did consider letting him live alone, but after the accident, I gave up on that idea.”
"If you keep doing this, something bad will happen sooner or later." Qin Ge took a sip of his drink. "When that happens, it won't just be three people who get hurt."
"It won't come to that, Yu Zhen will understand."
Lin Gu waved his hand, not caring at all. Yu Zhen wasn't the kind of person who couldn't distinguish right from wrong; he would understand.
"You'll be crying then."
Qin Ge snorted coldly. Lin Gu would definitely cry like a dead dog then, which was very annoying.
Inside the room, Zhou Siyu handed the drafted contract to Yu Zhen.
"Sister-in-law, I feel like I'm getting ripped off." Yu Zhen took the contract. It was one thing for Cen Jin to live at his house and eat his food, but why should he have to give him money every month?
“The reason why ambiguous relationships are annoying is precisely because of their uncertainty. Lin Gu took advantage of this and used the excuse of being in the right to engage in an ambiguous relationship with Cen Jin.” Zhou Siyu gently crossed her legs and rested her chin on her hand: “And what you have to do is help him define this relationship.”
Lin Gu kept Cen Jin on the premise of repaying a debt of gratitude, making their relationship ambiguous and difficult to define. Cen Jin was adept at acting; the more Yu Zhen insisted that he move out, the more reluctant Lin Gu became to let him. Over time, Yu Zhen came to be seen by Lin Gu as unreasonable and lacking in common sense.
"Will this... really work?"
Yu Zhen frowned. He couldn't bear to watch Lin Gu and Cen Jin being so sweet, and he couldn't bring himself to compete with Cen Jin for favor. It would be a huge loss of face for him.
"Whether it works or not, we'll find out by trying."
