Yu Zhen was tied up and thrown into the basement. She couldn't come to her senses for a long time. Why was she suddenly unable to move?

"Waaaaah..."

The faint sobbing sounds, like the chirping of mice, reached her ears. Ignoring the pain in her wound, Yu Zhen sat up and looked around in the dark basement.

"Lin Nianyu? Is that you?" The sobbing subsided a little, and Yu Zhen tentatively asked, "Nianyu?"

"Dad... Dad?" Lin Nianyu thought she was hallucinating. She rubbed her ears in disbelief, then hesitated before timidly speaking, "Zhen... Zhen Dad..."

“It’s me! Nianyu, it’s me.” Yu Zhen looked around anxiously, but it was pitch black all around and he couldn’t see anything. He could only lower his voice and gently comfort Nian Nian: “Don’t be afraid, Daddy is here.”

The wound on his back reopened, but Yu Zhen felt no pain at all. He struggled in the darkness, slowly approaching the sound.

"Dad..." Lin Nianyu burst into tears, choking out, "Dad, where are you? I'm so scared..."

"Niannian, don't cry, Daddy's here."

Yu Zhen patiently comforted her; the wound hurt, but her heart ached even more.

"Dad..." Lin Nianyu stood up, groping in the darkness as she approached the source of the voice, "Dad, where are you..."

“Under your feet…” Yu Zhen said with difficulty, lying on the ground, “You… stepped on my hand…”

"dad!"

Lin Nianyu took a small step back and squatted down, touching Yu Zhen's head. She wanted to bury her face in his chest and cry, but her nose bumped into his hard back. The smell of blood entered her nostrils, and Lin Nianyu was startled. The tears she had managed to hold back started flowing again.

"Dad...your back is all wet and sticky..." Lin Nianyu wiped away her tears, groping Yu Zhen's back, trying to cover his bleeding wound with her hands: "Dad, are you hurt? Are you going to die? Nian Nian doesn't want you to die..."

"If you keep pressing down, I'm really going to die."

Yu Zhen was both amused and exasperated. He made a move, which startled Lin Nianyu again.

"Dad, I didn't mean to..." Lin Nianyu wiped away her tears, sobbing uncontrollably, "Dad, don't die..."

"Sweetie, Daddy's okay." Yu Zhen sighed and moved his fingers. "Can you help Daddy untie his hands?"

Your wrists are tied so tightly, they're going to break!

Lin Nianyu sobbed as she shakily reached out to touch Yu Zhen's hand, pulling, biting, and tugging until she finally managed to untie the rope.

"Niannian, come here and let Daddy hug you."

Yu Zhen sat up and reached out to touch Lin Nianyu, but the child obediently snuggled into his arms, her little hands tightly wrapped around his neck.

"Don't be afraid, Daddy's here." Yu Zhen gently patted Lin Nianyu's back and coaxed her softly, "Daddy won't die, Daddy will take you out with him."

Even if Lin Gu was unwilling to exchange with them, he would still find a way to send Lin Nianyu out, even if it meant risking his life.

"Daddy, are you hungry?" Lin Nianyu sniffed as she leaned against Yu Zhen's chest. "Niannian hid some food..."

Lin Nianyu ran away, found the schoolbag by memory, and pulled Yu Zhen to her side.

These were the small cakes and cookies he had secretly hidden from school the day he was taken away. He had intended to share them with his father, but when he woke up, he didn't see his father and stayed here alone for a long time.

They beat him, made him cry in front of the camera, didn't give him food or water, and he seemed to have been forgotten.

The smell of the sour cake in her hand made Yu Zhen's heart tighten, and her anger intensified.

All told, Lin Nianyu has been here for two days, and all she's eaten is this stuff.

"Dad, eat quickly, don't let anyone find out."

Lin Nianyu nudged Yu Zhen's hand, warning that they would be beaten if they were discovered.

"Daddy's not hungry." Yu Zhen ruffled Lin Nianyu's hair and put the small cake down. "Is Nian Nian hungry?"

“Niannian ate some cookies and isn’t hungry at all.” Lin Nianyu nodded and snuggled against Yu Zhen. “Daddy, eat quickly so you can get better soon.”

"Niannian is such a good girl."

Yu Zhen smiled, secretly wiped away her tears, picked up the cake, and ate it bite by bite.

This was the best cake he had ever eaten in his life; it was delicious.

"Dad, where have you been these past few days?" Lin Nianyu bit her lip and murmured, "Don't you want to abandon Niannian anymore?"

“How could that be? Niannian is Daddy’s precious child, Daddy would never abandon you.” Yu Zhen hugged Lin Nianyu and wiped away his tears. “Daddy is going to earn money to buy Niannian a big airplane and a little tiger doll.”

“Niannian doesn’t want a big airplane and a little tiger.” Lin Nianyu rubbed her eyes. “Niannian wants to stay with her dad.”

Yu Zhen's heart clenched. Look at what he had done before! He actually wanted to give his well-behaved son to someone else. Was he even human?

He couldn't help but curse himself!

After searching his pockets for a while, Yu Zhen pulled out a few milk candies and a lollipop. The milk candies were given to him by the shopkeeper as change when he didn't have any change, and the lollipop was taken from Zhou Siyu's pocket.

He stuffed everything into Lin Nianyu's hands, hoping to alleviate even a little bit of his guilt.

"Daddy is so amazing..." Lin Nianyu excitedly snuggled against Yu Zhen, unwrapped a candy, and held it to Yu Zhen's lips: "Daddy, eat first..."
