After soaking her feet, Ning Xiyue got up and went out to pour the water for washing her feet. When she reached the door, she felt a damp and cold wind blowing on her face. Outside the eaves, the drizzle was falling heavily. Where the flashlight was illuminating, there was only a mist of water vapor, and she could not see the road clearly.

"Wow, it's raining so hard outside."

She put down the barrel and raised her arm holding the flashlight to block the wind and rain blowing in from outside.

It was obviously unwise to carry a bucket to the gutter to pour the water in such heavy rain. Ning Xiyue had no choice but to stand under the eaves and pour out the water in the bucket so that the rain from the sky could be carried away with it.

Chen Yechu followed her out with a basin in his hand. Feeling the rain on his face, he stopped and wiped the water off his upper arm. "Hey, it's really big."

She had no choice but to follow the principle of proximity, standing still by the eaves, holding the basin and pouring the water out with all her might.

"Let's go in quickly. The wind and rain are too strong."

Ning Xiyue pulled Chen Yechu and quickly returned to the house.

Chen Yechu closed the door, and Ning Xiyue took their respective towels and wiped the rain off their faces.

As he wiped it, he sighed, "I didn't feel it when the door was closed, but as soon as I opened it, I could feel how heavy the rain was outside. It was a drizzle, heavy and fast, and the wind was strong."

Chen Yechu took the washcloth Ning Xiyue handed her and nodded with a smile: "It's indeed heavy. The ground should be soaked after the rain. I will go to the side and plant some vegetables to eat later in my free time tomorrow."

Ning Xiyue was also planning this and continued, "I'll go plant some too. I just got some pepper and cabbage seeds today. I plan to plant some tomatoes for food, and some green onions and garlic for seasoning."

After Chen Yechu finished, he returned to the kang and sat down: "Yu Zhiyu said he would come to help me dig the ground, do you want to help?"

"No need. Have you forgotten that I still have my second brother to help me? He's a good laborer in our family." Ning Xiyue climbed onto the kang, opened the quilt and prepared to go to sleep.

"Yes, and your second brother too. Okay, let's go to sleep. We are all sleepy." Chen Yetu yawned, turned over, and slowly closed his eyes.

Ning Xiyue turned off the flashlight and closed her eyes.

"Boom, snap—"

Outside, a loud thunderclap in the sky woke up the two people who had just fallen asleep.

Chen Yechu suddenly opened his eyes and patted his chest to calm himself down: "It scared me. The thunder was a bit too loud. I just fell asleep and it woke me up."

"I'm awake too."

Hearing the thunder outside, Ning Xiyue got up and found a ball of cotton. She wrapped the cotton in a cloth and stuffed it into her ears. The world suddenly became much quieter. Most of the thunder was blocked out of her ears, and she could only hear a little sound which did not affect her sleep.

Ning Xiyue handed the remaining cotton to Chen Yechu and then fell back and closed her eyes again.

After a while, Ning Xiyue woke up again, this time she was woken up by Chen Yechu.

"Xiyue, why do I hear a child crying? Come and listen."

"Ah what? I didn't hear what you said."

Ning Xiyue took the cotton out of her ears and looked at her inquiringly.

"I just heard a child crying. Listen, it's screaming."

Ning Xiyue tilted her ear and listened carefully. There was a miserable cry in the thunder. After hearing it clearly, her face relaxed, shook her head and lay down: "No, it's a cat's cry. It's probably a fight between cats in the wild. Go to sleep."

"Yeah?"

Chen Yetu pricked up his ears and listened carefully again, agreeing with Ning Xiyue's words.

"It sounds like a cat's meow."

She slowly lay down and closed her eyes. The cat's meowing outside became more and more miserable, and the sound seemed to be getting closer and closer, which was very annoying.

Even cotton in the ears can't plug them.

Ning Xiyue was not affected and fell asleep immediately. After putting on the cotton pad, the sounds outside became like a sleepy lullaby to her.

Chen Yetu couldn't fall asleep because of the noise outside.

After a while, I seemed to hear someone going out to take a look outside the Youth League compound.

Chen Yechu opened the door with his shoes on and looked out, and found Yu Zhiyu, Ning Qingyuan, and Wang Jiandong coming back with flashlights to check.

Chen Yechu called out softly, "What's going on?"

Yu Zhiyu came running over with an umbrella and said a few words: "Ye Chu, it's okay. Two cats were fighting over a fish, and we've chased them away. You should go back to sleep. It's getting late."

"Okay, then you should go to bed early too." Chen Yechu nodded, closed the door, went in, and lay back on the kang.

She was quite envious of Ning Xiyue who was sleeping soundly. She could fall asleep in seconds despite such a loud noise. She really couldn't do it. The noise outside made her feel uneasy.

Chen Yetu slowly closed his eyes for the third time tonight, and sure enough, the cat's meowing outside was getting farther and farther away.

After a while, no sound could be heard at all. There was only the incessant thunder outside. The sudden flash of lightning illuminated the room through the gaps in the window and the old newspapers that did not block out the light.

Chen Yetu, who had just closed his eyes, suddenly opened his eyes and sat up.

She remembered something.

During this period of time in my previous life, a major event broke out in the team one morning.

A pregnant woman died in the shed that no one in the team was willing to approach, resulting in two deaths.
