Chapter 17-17- The Vicious Criminal Duo
The night rain was cool, tapping against the awning with a hollow, mechanical rattling sound.
Yvette slowly opened her eyes, her vision immediately filled with a massive holographic projection—a half-naked virtual beauty licking her lips with a stylized allure. Holographic particles swirled around her waist, forming a flickering advertisement: "Tired of the cold reality? Yearning for a more fiery touch? Seventh Heaven, equipped with the latest spirit-body synchronization technology, makes every caress thrillingly real! Blackwater District coordinates 47.9, sincerely invite you to experience it!"
Yvette's pupils contracted, and she stared at the advertisement for a few more seconds before looking around.
It was a dark, rain-soaked alley, stretching endlessly in both directions in the night. The towering building facade was clad in matte alloy plates, and the magical circuits etched on the surface flowed with streams of neon light in shades of blue, indigo, and crimson, outlining the entire building.
At the base of the wall in the corner lay a pile of discarded gear-shaped magic parts, dusty pipe joints, worn flexible screens, and a foul-smelling pile of household garbage. A prosthetic hand with exposed alloy joints was juxtaposed with a touch of humor on top of the pile of garbage, like a mechanical lifeform about to crawl out of the filth.
"Is this... the Blackwater District before the apocalypse?" Yvette whispered to herself, her slender fingers brushing back the damp silver hair clinging to her shoulders.
Just as she was thinking about what to do next, a familiar and surprised voice sounded behind her: "Teacher, where is this place? How did we get here suddenly?"
Yvette turned around suddenly and saw Rosalyn standing behind her in her expedition outfit.
Her clothes were wet from the rain, her golden hair stuck to her cheeks, but her eyes were bright, like a little deer that had strayed into the future, looking at this bizarre new world with curiosity.
"How did you get in?" Yvette asked in surprise.
"I saw you sleeping on the floor, so I wanted to put something under you. But as soon as I touched you, I started to feel sleepy..."
So that's how it is. Only people who have come into contact with me can enter the dream. This only further confirms the special connection between the dream fog and me... Yvette thought thoughtfully.
The rain intensified, forcing the two to move toward the alley entrance. Occasionally, passersby began to appear ahead. Compared to their modern, fashionable attire, Yvette, in her white dress, stood out, inevitably drawing stares.
"What do you feel when you look at these passers-by?" Yvette suddenly asked after walking for a while.
"Ah?" Rosalyn was slightly startled, then thought for a moment before saying, "He's very curious about us, but also a little... hostile."
"No... I'm asking you, when you looked at them, did their bodies appear strange, like translucent or blurry?"
"No."
"I see."
"In the eyes of the teacher, do they look transparent or blurry?"
"Um."
"Wow! Could it be that the teacher saw through their true nature at a glance?"
"……Maybe."
A few minutes later, when she walked out of the alley, Yvette had two more ID cards in her hand.
"Teacher, this is indeed a dream, right?" Rosalyn said nervously.
Yvette nodded slightly, indicating that she could rest assured.
Although she had never lived in the world before the apocalypse, through reading the novels and books left behind, she was very sure of one thing, that is, to live here, one cannot do without an identity document.
What if I don’t have an ID card?
Yvette's answer was sting operation.
So, in order to find a suitable target, the two of them walked around twice before leaving the alley, and finally met a group of three young men with bad intentions.
They were dressed in rebellious punk style, and their eyes widened when they saw the two beautiful girls. They surrounded them and wanted to pull their clothes, but they were so impatient that before they could even touch them, they were killed by Yvette like she was clearing out the aberrations, and her identity documents were easily obtained.
Of course, this startled Rosalyn. She had little knowledge of the situation, and wasn't sure what would happen if she were surrounded by these three young men. She only knew that the teacher's killing moves were too quick and decisive. Before she could react, she saw the green wind transform into blades, piercing through the chests of the three men, and blood gushed out.
In the end, she was the one who set the fire and destroyed the body. They are simply a first-rate vicious criminal duo.
…
"Do we have an identity now?" Maybe it was because this was a dream, or maybe it was because she had seen too many disgusting scenes when killing deformed monsters. In short, Rosalind adjusted extremely quickly to the close-range bloody murders and recovered almost instantly.
"No, I need to operate it again." As she said that, Yvette walked to a machine on the side of the road.
This was a public citizen service device that could handle most issues in one place. She placed her finger on the touchpad and connected her furnace ring to a sensor slot. Quickly, with the help of the magic terminal, she began hacking into the police system and modifying her ID information.
This was a big challenge for Yvette, because the post-apocalyptic world did not require knowledge of "rune hacking". She learned it, but it was just icing on the cake and she had never practiced it. Unexpectedly, it would be useful today.
"Luckily, the police system in this area is quite lax. Blackwater District, being the poorest district in Ish City, probably doesn't have the funds for this kind of maintenance?"
About ten minutes later, Yvette returned to Rosalyn while guessing and handed her the ID card.
Rosalyn looked down and found that the information and photo on the card had changed. It now showed the cute face of a blonde girl as her ID photo, and her name was "Rosalyn Roshivia".
Correspondingly, Yvette's ID name naturally became "Yvette Sheen".
As for the reason for this name change, it was because the current year was 2124, a year before the original owner participated in the "Transfiguration Project." Yvette suspected that her pre-apocalyptic self might also appear in this dream, registered with the corresponding orphanage and under the medical scrutiny of the Black Tower. This slight modification could avoid some trouble.
Rosalin naturally didn't know this, but in the Kingdom of Eaton, changing one's surname only happened after marriage, and her expression suddenly became a little shy - of course, she actually didn't even understand what marriage was.
After finishing tampering with the ID cards, Yvette did not forget to try to steal the savings of the three unlucky guys.
But the bank's firewall was not something she, a novice hacker with only theoretical knowledge, could challenge. So after much thought, she decided to sell some of their online digital assets, such as digital currency, gambling platform chips, and various virtual game accounts.
The operation took two or three hours, and in the end I only earned more than 6,000 credit points, which was barely enough to stay in an affordable hotel for a month.
So little! No wonder these three poor guys live in the Blackwater District... After working for a long time, Yvette was a little dissatisfied.
She also wanted to list the real properties of these three poor guys for sale, but this would easily alert their acquaintances and cause the identity tampering to be discovered earlier.
So she could only make do with it for now, and when she had enough money, she would use gray channels to buy a new identity... She started planning silently.
…
As night fell, they finally found a cheap hotel. Raindrops dripped down her hair, and her white dress clung to her body, making the powerful and elegant witch look a bit disheveled.
But even so, as a reliable teacher, Yvette patiently conducted a thorough inspection before Rosalyn used the bathroom to make sure there were no hidden cameras before letting her in.
When Yvette finished showering, she came out and saw Rosalind standing by the window, looking at the central area in the distance with a look of longing.
Yvette calmly walked behind her.
In fact, the windows here are not clean. There is a thin layer of oil film on the surface, which reflects the city's light pollution and makes the neon lights and holographic advertisements outside become blurred and distorted.
But Rosaline was still watching with great interest. After all, for someone who came from a medieval civilization, everything from today to now was too advanced. Even the time when she first set foot in the Land of the End was far from the shock she felt at this moment.
"Teacher, is this the kingdom of God?" After a long while, Yvette heard Rosalyn exclaim in a dreamy tone.
"No. But if it is, it belongs to the 'evil god'."
"Yeah, hehe." Rosalyn continued to stare out the window, as if she could look all day and all night without getting tired.
"Want to go over and take a look?"
"think!"
"Rest first, I'll take you for a walk tomorrow."
"good!"
With infinite yearning for the beauty of the origin civilization, Rosalind excitedly lay down on the bed, and then, as expected, she couldn't sleep the whole night.
