Chapter 25-25- Civilization Past
"I was so scared, I almost died!"
"Holy crap, we actually have a real 'Mage' here!"
After passing through the dark and damp huge drainage pipe, they came to a hidden coast on the other side of the Scrap Metal Avenue. The young boys and girls who survived the disaster breathed a sigh of relief here, and then cast their shocked and complicated eyes to Rosaline who was walking in front.
They were all elite students of Black Tower Middle School, and naturally knew how incredible this level of spellcasting was. Even the third-year seniors would never be able to take them away in that situation.
"Keep it a secret, okay?" Rosalyn winked at them and gestured for silence.
Hans, Mary, and Brielle all nodded hurriedly. They had been frightened enough today, and their only thought at the moment was to get back to their safe house immediately.
"Damn Vicious Dog Gang, they made me lose all my puppets. I'm going to tell my parents when I get home, I'm going to teach them a lesson..." Brielle muttered to herself hatefully.
"What's next?" a little follower asked timidly, looking around anxiously at the dim coastline.
"Let's go forward. It's still too close here. Let's take shelter first," said Hans.
This road was discovered by Rosalyn's three-person team during their recent expedition, and it leads to an old seaside village. There are almost no gangs or tourists there, and only a few elderly people live there, waiting for the end of their lives.
To avoid the gang's pressure, the six of them went deeper and soon came across a wooden house by the sea. A gray-haired old man was fishing not far away. When he saw them, he smiled and nodded.
"Grandpa Watt!" Rosalyn waved her hand, and her action and cry startled several seagulls.
When he got closer, the old man named Watt smiled and said, "Oh, you brought a new friend with you. Are you here to catch fish again today? Or are you craving some 'crispy pupae'?"
"No, no, no... no thanks." Rosalyn quickly refused. The "crisp pupa" that old man Watt mentioned was actually a local fat white worm, as thick as two fingers. After being baked, it would shrink and become a crispy food with a salty taste.
Apart from the old people on Scrap Metal Avenue, few young people in the Blackwater District would eat something so scary-looking, and they don't even have the courage to try.
"Fragile pupa? Poor...old man, are you a native?" Brielle said in surprise.
Two hundred years ago, there was an island regime called the Kingdom of Ish on the island of Ish, where local indigenous people lived. The most obvious feature of the indigenous people was that their skin was slightly darker than that of the mainlanders. They also developed local food such as "crisp pupae" and had a unique culture and beliefs.
But later, with the colonization of the "Great Eden Empire", the indigenous people were massacred, and only one in ten survived. Many historical and cultural relics that once existed disappeared in this process and became powder crushed under the wheels of history.
Of course, later in the development of civilization, the regime of the Great Eden Empire was overthrown, and now there is the New Eden United States, which is at least a democratic country on the surface.
Watt smiled and nodded, unfazed by Brielle's impolite address. "Here, and around Scrap Road, the descendants of the kingdom should all be here. Some have also moved to Gray Harbor City and Luya City behind Mount Ish. I'm not too sure about that place."
At this moment, one of Brielle's followers suddenly pointed in a direction and said, "What's that?"
Everyone looked over and found that it was located at the bottom of a cliff, with a place that looked like the entrance of a building.
"That's the 'Tidal Church,'" Watt said.
"Tidal Church?" Rosalyn, Hans and Mary showed surprised expressions. They had been here two or three times, and this was the first time they saw it.
"The place where gods were worshipped in the past was hidden during high tide and could only be entered during low tide. Now it has become a relic, and basically no one comes here except for archaeology enthusiasts." Watt laughed.
"What god?" Mary asked. Most of the residents of Ish Island did not have any religious beliefs, but in the Origin Civilization, there were many well-known religious forces, such as the "Temple of Mind" in Silver Mirror Continent and the "Church of the Tree God" in Emerald Continent.
"He's called the 'God of Dusk.' In modern mythology, he'd probably be considered a demon, but the islanders back then believed he was the embodiment of death and rebirth, so they've been worshipping him since tribal times, probably for thousands of years," Watt said. "I don't know the details of the process, though; I've only seen it in documentaries. It was a long time ago."
As he spoke, the old man's eyes flickered with reminiscence, as if he saw countless years ago, when people came and went in the Tidal Church, attending mass in unison. Back then, the "magic revolution" led by magical technology had not yet begun, and Ish Island had not yet been invaded. Forefathers had lived on this island for generations, peaceful and at peace with the world, like a paradise.
…
Rosalyn and others stayed at old man Watt's place until evening, and were almost discovered by the gangsters on the way. However, thanks to Watt's deliberate misleading, the gangsters did not find the boys and girls hiding in the woods and left quickly.
In the evening, after arriving home with Hans and Mary, Rosalyn returned to Room 1809 and recounted everything that had happened that day to her teacher in detail. Finally, she asked expectantly, "...How was my performance today, teacher?"
"Arrogant, reckless, and reckless," Yvette said bluntly. "Also, next time, notify me immediately. Even if this is a dream and something unexpected happens, I can't guarantee that you will be safe in reality."
"But! But I think I did it perfectly, teacher." Rosalyn was not convinced. She really didn't believe that anyone else could do better than her under the circumstances at that time.
"But if you inform me, I can use you as a springboard and utilize the network port to hack into the chips in their bodies, perform various interferences, or operate nearby vehicles to ram them... Isn't that safer than you just riding a skateboard to dodge bullets?" Yvette asked back, her tone more stern than usual.
Rosalyn was silent for a moment. She opened her mouth but couldn't refute. There was no doubt that the teacher was right, and she knew that the teacher had such ability, but at that time she only felt that the time had come to show her skills, and she didn't realize the risks and stupidity hidden behind it.
What made her feel even more embarrassed and ashamed was that on the way back, she had been looking forward to her teacher's reaction, imagining that she would be shocked and astonished at her apprentice's growth, but she never thought that everything was just her self-righteousness.
After a long while, she finally recovered and said hesitantly, "I'm sorry, teacher... I was wrong..."
Yvette hummed and said nothing more. As a person with a cool personality, she had already said a lot, and she believed it was enough to warn this 12-year-old girl not to rush into her rebellious period.
…
After dinner, thinking about what Rosaline had told her about the past of the Tidal Church, Yvette once again turned on the holographic screen and began to collect information.
Due to the unsuccessful search for information on the Silent War, she changed her thinking and speculated that the coming of the end of the world might not necessarily be caused by the Origin Civilization itself. In a world with magic, gods might not necessarily not exist.
What if God is in a bad mood and wants to bring down the end of the world?
Then, after searching through mainstream religious and mythological research, Yvette suddenly made a discovery.
It was a free literature study that explained that gods like the "God of Dusk" existed in various cultures on the Origin Star.
For example, the world-destroying demon god "Lord of Dusk" in mainstream mythology, and some translated terms from foreign mythology such as "Source of Destruction", "God of the End", "Elegy of Doom", etc., all have similar settings.
And what is very similar is that these demons all destroyed God's paradise "Garden of Eden" with their own power in their respective myths, forcing the newly born human beings to hide in the cruel world on earth to make a living.
Of course, the expression is not exactly like this, but the plot is basically the same.
The reason for such a highly similar process is that experts in history and mythology have the same view, that is, these legends are highly related to the ancient civilization period 30,000 years ago.
The Origin Civilization knew very little about the prehistoric civilization of 30,000 years ago. They could only find clues from some fossils and believed that it was a period with abundant magical elements, with huge dragons roaming the sky and terrifying monsters walking the earth.
At that time, humans could become powerful wizards through meditation alone, protect their tribes with their personal abilities, and establish tribes and even kingdoms.
But later, for some unknown reason, just like the dinosaur era on Earth, all the creatures of that era died at a certain period of time, and the world entered the Dharma Ending Age.
Such a huge, mysterious and strange historical turning point gave birth to the image of a mechanical demon god called "The Lord of Twilight".
The so-called heavenly "Garden of Eden" is the most desired and beautiful spiritual sustenance of people in the Dharma-Ending Age for that high-demon era with abundant elements.
"Turning point... Could it be that the ancient civilization of 30,000 years ago was also destroyed because of the mysterious 'end of the world'?" Yvette whispered to herself, thinking that it sounded like a whole fateful cycle.
The second update today will be a little later.
