In her previous life, Feng Mingshu was a young lady raised in a wealthy family. She was sweet, charming, and gentle, secretly coveted by many who regarded her as their "white moonlight." Un...
A man's thoughts are all in those bright, shining eyes.
Feng Mingshu felt inexplicably flustered, quickly avoiding his gaze and pushing away the bag of chocolates: "No need, I don't like candy, or anything else." She added, "You helped me tonight, I should thank you. Please wait a moment, I'll go prepare a thank-you gift."
After she finished speaking, she turned and walked towards the stairs.
"Comrade Feng Mingshu, please wait a moment."
Zhou Jinshan strode to the top of the stairs, blocking her way.
The light from the wall lamp shone down on the man, casting a shadow that completely enveloped him, making Feng Mingshu immediately feel pressured: "What do you want to do?"
Noticing her nervousness, Zhou Jinshan moved a step to the side, and the light shone on Feng Mingshu's face again. You could see the fine downy hair on her fair forehead, which was tinged with a light gold by the light, making people's hearts soften as they looked at her.
Zhou Jinshan looked down into her eyes, trying to soften his voice: "Comrade Feng, I don't need any thank-you gift. You know what I want."
The man's words were blunt, and he never bothered to hide them. Feng Mingshu looked up at him and glared: "You're clearly taking advantage of my kindness."
Zhou Jinshan leaned closer to her and chuckled, "Then are you willing to report it?"
What if I don't want to?
“Then I will continue to pursue you until you are willing.” Zhou Jinshan straightened up again, increasing the distance between them, but his gaze remained fixed on her, with a smile on his face.
Feng Mingshu felt as if he had punched cotton, and annoyance rose in his heart. He pointed to the door behind him and said, "Go away, go away now!" If he didn't leave, his conscience might be compromised.
Looking at the girl's angry face, Zhou Jinshan thought she was lively and beautiful. He thought to himself that he must have some wickedness in his bones.
Even though he hadn't won the girl's heart, he still had to coax her.
"Okay, I'm leaving. Don't be angry."
Zhou Jinshan bowed his head and coaxed him, then straightened up and walked out.
Feng Mingshu could hardly believe that he had left so quickly this time.
The doors to the hall opened, and Zhou Jinshan actually walked out.
"Zhuzhu, why did you let them leave so quickly?" Yu Jingqiu came downstairs with disapproval on her face.
Feng Mingshu immediately realized that the man had a backup plan, and she was a little annoyed: "If we don't let him leave, are we going to let him stay in our house?"
"You silly child, never mind, you go and see him off, it's only proper etiquette." Yu Jingqiu's tone was stern when she mentioned proper etiquette.
Feng Mingshu knew he had been rude, so he didn't refuse anymore and started walking out, though he walked a little slowly.
She figured that by the time she got out of the building, the man should have reached the bus stop, and then she wouldn't have to struggle with her conscience anymore.
But her prediction didn't come true. As soon as she stepped out of the building, she saw a man standing bent over at the bottom of the steps of the Western-style building, his hands supporting his knees. Something seemed wrong.
Worried that the man was up to something again, Feng Mingshu stopped and asked his retreating figure, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, you can go in."
Without turning his head, the man said something, straightened up, and started walking forward. But after a few steps, his body suddenly swayed and he fell straight forward.
Feng Mingshu didn't go inside. Upon seeing this scene, she exclaimed "Be careful!" and rushed down the steps to the man's side. She reached out and took his arm, asking urgently, "What's wrong with you?"
Zhou Jinshan did not fall to the ground. At the last moment, he managed to brace himself with his hands and land on one knee, making him look less disheveled.
He turned his head, forced a smile, and said to Feng Mingshu, "Don't worry, it's nothing serious, just a little pain in my leg. I'll be able to walk after I recover."
The man's expression was so nonchalant that Feng Mingshu couldn't tell for a moment whether his leg was genuinely in pain or if he was just feigning injury.
"Zhuzhu, quickly help them into the house." Yu Jingqiu rushed out upon hearing the commotion and immediately made a decision upon seeing the scene.
"Auntie, you really don't need to, I'll be fine in a bit." Zhou Jinshan politely declined, forcing himself to stand up, but the veins on his forehead were bulging and large beads of sweat were rolling down, clearly indicating that he was enduring great pain.
Feng Mingshu suddenly remembered how he looked covered in blood when she saw him at the hospital half a month ago. Her heart clenched, and she grabbed his arm, demanding, "Has your injury not healed yet?"
Seeing how worried she was for him, Zhou Jinshan suddenly felt that the embarrassment was worth it: "It will take a while to recover."
"Then why did you run out here?" Feng Mingshu asked anxiously, his Bincheng accent showing. "Wang Ma, go next door and ask Uncle Yan to pick up some work. Be quick!"
Night buses are hard to catch and the speed is so-so, it's far better to have someone deliver it by bike.
Wang Ma responded and ran next door. Less than two minutes later, Uncle Yan rode a rickshaw into the yard.
"I can just take the bus, there's really no need to call a taxi..."
Before Zhou Jinshan could finish speaking, Feng Mingshu glared at him and said, "If you don't get on this car, don't ever come to my house again."
After the words left her mouth, Feng Mingshu belatedly realized what she had said, but before she could retort, the man had already obediently gotten into the rickshaw, leaving a small space for her, and looked at her with his eyes.
Uncle Yan greeted her with a smile, "Shu girl, my car can carry two people, why don't you get in and ride with your boyfriend?"
Feng Mingshu: "...Maybe I shouldn't go. It'll be too tiring for you to carry two people."
“What’s tiring? This bike has three wheels, it’s easy to ride and pedal, unlike the old days when we had to run on our own two legs.” Uncle Yan proudly straddled the front seat.
"Zhuzhu, put on your scarf, don't catch a cold, and come back soon." Yu Jingqiu came out of the house, wrapped the scarf around her neck twice, and urged her with a smile.
Unable to refuse any longer, Feng Mingshu wrapped her scarf around herself and got into the rickshaw.
Uncle Yan shouted happily and started pedaling, creating a gust of wind.
The wind was cold, but Feng Mingshu didn't feel it too cold. Because the seats were small, the two of them were close together and could feel each other's breathing, which made her feel very uncomfortable, so she tried her best to move to the side.
At this moment, Zhou Jinshan suddenly spoke up: "Comrade Feng, I'm sorry for causing you trouble."
Feng Mingshu was a little angry, but she couldn't vent her anger on the patient, so she could only reply, "No trouble at all."
Zhou Jinshan wanted to try to comfort him again, but the pain from his wounds intensified, and he could only grit his teeth to avoid groaning.
Feng Mingshu didn't notice anything unusual about him at first, but later she realized that the man next to her was breathing heavily and his breath was hotter.
When she asked him what was wrong but received no response, Feng Mingshu immediately reached out to touch his forehead and found it covered in sweat. Startled, she called out to the front, "Uncle Yan, stop the car and let me out. Please take him to the hospital quickly."
Uncle Yan exclaimed "Yes!" and immediately stopped the car.
But just as Feng Mingshu was about to jump out of the car, a burning hot hand suddenly grabbed her wrist, and the man's body leaned closer, his hoarse voice and hot breath spraying into her ear: "It's dark, don't get out of the car, I can hold on."
