Chapter 99 Recruitment (1/2)

Wang Caixia didn't stay in Beijing for long; five days passed in the blink of an eye. Before leaving, Gu Chen had a photo studio take some pictures of the child and sent one back to Wang Caixia.

"Second Aunt, please be careful on your way back. Take these clothes with you. I bought Uncle Gu's clothes according to your size. Please take good care of yourselves in Qinghe Village. If you need anything, just call me from the office." Gu Chen personally escorted Wang Caixia to the station.

They came with lots of bags and bags of stuff, and they left with almost the same amount of stuff.

Wang Caixia nodded. "You don't need to worry about things at home. Now that you're a father, you just need to take good care of Xixi and the baby."

The train station in Beijing was packed with people. Gu Chen had other things to do and couldn't stay any longer. He watched Wang Caixia enter the train station, and then bought some things for Lin Yuxi on his way back to his family compound.

Jiang Shufen was quite exhausted from taking care of the children lately, but thankfully Wang Caixia came for a few days, which gave her a much-needed respite.

Gu Chen has to train during the day, leaving early and returning late, and she still has to do laundry and cook. Luckily, there are some appliances at home, otherwise she really wouldn't be able to manage.

With her two elders at home, Lin Yuxi hadn't lifted a finger to help them all week.

She didn't even have the child in her care for a minute. When she was in bed, she would do some homework when she had nothing to do, then go to sleep, and eat and drink.

Gu Chen returned from outside carrying a large pile of things, just as Lin Yuxi finished feeding the baby.

"Has Second Aunt gotten on the bus?" She asked, holding a baby bottle as she watched the baby, who had eaten and drunk his fill, fall asleep. She then placed the baby in the crib and covered him with a blanket.

Gu Chen responded, "Get in the car. I bought some things for you and Mom. Take a look and see if you like them."

Lin Yuxi looked at the thing in his hand and thought it was fruit, but then he suddenly pulled out a rose-red velvet box from his pocket as if by magic.

"What is this?" Lin Yuxi asked curiously.

Gu Chen responded in a low voice, "Open it and take a look."

Lin Yuxi took the box, opened it, and a gold necklace appeared before her eyes, with a gold pendant on it.

"Do you like it? Let me put it on you." Gu Chen looked at the joy in her eyes, took the necklace, and put it around her neck.

Lin Yuxi felt a sweet warmth in her heart as she touched the necklace around her neck, and asked, "Did you hide some money? You actually have enough to buy a necklace."

"This is a bonus from the army. It was supposed to be given out during the Chinese New Year, but it was delayed. I just received it a few days ago," Gu Chen honestly explained. He continued, "I also bought one for Mom. It's a bracelet. She and my second aunt each got one. You can give this one to Mom. She's been working hard taking care of the children lately."

He had prepared the necklace after receiving his bonus. Wang Caixia happened to be in Beijing at the time, and he bought it on his way there. He had kept it on his person for the past few days and hadn't taken it out.

"I didn't realize you were so well-prepared, and you put so much thought into it," Lin Yuxi couldn't help but laugh. She never imagined that a grown man would go to a jewelry store and buy two bracelets and a necklace.

"You've worked hard too," Gu Chen said softly.

The postpartum period was tough. Every day, she had to follow Jiang Shufen's instructions, not to go out in the wind, and to wear a hat at home. Fortunately, Lin Yuxi was able to endure it. When she had free time, she would do practice problems at home, and spend the rest of her time playing with the baby.

After all, she's a mother now; she can't be completely without a sense of responsibility.
