Chapter 25: Obscure Confession

“Not all stars shine.”

"I know." Song Shengsheng looked at him: "But the stars I see are all shining. Brother Yi Yu, have you heard the story of Pluto and Charon?"

"Um?"

"Pluto is a lonely star, located at the very edge of the solar system, untouched by sunlight. Its surface temperature is around -80 degrees Celsius, and astronomers have even voted to remove it from the planet class. But even this seemingly abandoned and lonely planet has always been accompanied by a dwarf planet named Charon. Charon's orbital time around Pluto coincides with Pluto's rotation, and they always keep each other company and illuminate each other. So, the lonely planet is not actually lonely at all."

Jiang Yiyu was silent for a long time, and slowly turned his gaze away from Song Shengsheng.

Song Ming stood up from the telescope, walked over to Jiang Yiyu, patted his shoulder, and teased Song Shengsheng, "Hey, if you talk to someone as uneducated as your brother Yiyu about the stars, can he understand?"

Jiang Yiyu glanced at Song Ming and said, "I'm just too lazy to learn."

"Oh, then show me how diligent you are next semester."

Jiang Yiyu nudged Song Ming with his elbow and said, "Get lost!"

Song Ming was not willing to be outdone. He put his arm around Jiang Yiyu's neck and started dragging him around to play with him.

Song Shengsheng stood by and watched them with a smile, thinking they were very childish, but also inexplicably happy. She thought Jiang Yiyu must have understood what she said, but maybe not completely.

The first implicit confession always ended in failure.

It was a cold winter night and the wind was strong on the top of the mountain. Song Ming was freezing after standing there for a while. He wanted to go down the mountain and go back to the hotel. Song Shengsheng also felt cold, so he didn't object. However, Jiang Yiyu said that he wanted to look at the stars for a while longer and asked them to go back first.

So Song Ming pulled Song Shengsheng down the mountain first.

Sitting on the cable car, Song Shengsheng looked back at the top of the mountain. Song Ming raised his hand, bent his fingers, and tapped her forehead hard: "No matter how good-looking Jiang Yiyu is, he can only be your brother like me. Little brat, don't study hard and think about Pluto's Charon all day long. If you are too compassionate, go feed the stray cats and dogs someday. Jiang Yiyu doesn't need your company."

"Brother, what nonsense are you talking about!"

Song Ming smiled and said, "It's best if you don't understand. Don't try to be precocious like others, little brat."

Song Shengsheng made a face at him and ignored him. She looked back and saw that they were getting farther and farther away from the top of the mountain. Jiang Yiyu stood on the high place, as if he had melted into the starry sky.

The winter vacation ended and the second semester started. Jiang Yiyu made a decision that seemed to be a spur of the moment in everyone's eyes. He planned to take the art exam and apply to a performing arts school in the future.

Song Ming and Song Shengsheng expressed their support for him despite being shocked. Wang Jing and Song Qing also thought it was a good thing. At least Jiang Yiyu started to plan for the future and stopped wasting his time.

But after hearing about this, Jiang Yiyu's father Jiang Yuan became furious and beat Jiang Yiyu up again. He also scolded him for not living a decent life and having a decent future, but instead finding new ways to make a living. He also said that if he insisted on becoming an actor, he would never be allowed to enter the Jiang family again.

After this incident, Jiang Yiyu never set foot in the Jiang family's door again, but he said that he was not driven out by Jiang Yuan, but he didn't want the Jiang family anymore.

Jiang Yiyu and Song Ming were both very busy in the second half of their second year of high school. Jiang Yiyu was busy making up for the cultural courses he had missed and also attending some training classes. Song Ming was preparing to study abroad after the college entrance examination under the arrangement of Song Qing and Wang Jing.

The days seemed to be back on track. Jiang Yiyu, who had a goal, felt more at ease. Song Shengsheng began to see him in places other than the basketball court in the school.

The junior high and high school departments of Shengyang Private Middle School share an art building. Except for art students, other students also take music and art classes in the art building.

The classroom where Song Shengsheng's class has art class every Thursday is very close to the classroom where Jiang Yiyu's class has music class. Occasionally, if she goes there early, she may just run into Jiang Yiyu and Song Ming, or if she leaves a little later, she might even leave with them.

One time during class, Song Shengsheng went to the supply room to help the art teacher get something. She happened to pass by the music classroom. Through the glass wall, she saw Jiang Yiyu sitting in front of the piano, playing and singing seriously. He was just singing a song from a music book, but his voice was beautiful, and he played the piano well. He sat there quietly, like a painting.

She stood at the corner of the corridor where she could see him, holding the piles of drawing paper in her hands, and looked at him quietly for a long time.

For a moment, perhaps there was something wrong with her memory, she seemed to remember that Jiang Yiyu turned his head to look at her and smiled at her that day.

The junior high school is right next to the sports field. Jiang Yiyu's class has physical education class every Tuesday afternoon. As long as Song Shengsheng turns her head and looks out the window and observes carefully, she can always see Jiang Yiyu running or playing with Song Ming on the sports field. Occasionally, if she is lucky, she can even hear someone in the crowd calling his name.

Song Shengsheng didn't like going downstairs during the ten-minute break, but every Tuesday afternoon, she would find an excuse to go to the school canteen, just to meet Jiang Yiyu by chance.

Later, after several chance encounters, Jiang Yiyu and Song Ming would deliberately stay at the playground for a while longer, and Jiang Yiyu would even give her a lollipop from his pocket.

By the end of the semester, Song Shengsheng had saved up a whole jar of lollipops that Jiang Yiyu had given her for various reasons, even more than the one Li Wei had given him before.

During the summer vacation before entering the third year of junior high school, Song Shengsheng became addicted to idol dramas. Every day after finishing her homework, she would sit by the TV and watch them with Wang Jing. Jiang Yiyu would occasionally go home with Song Ming, and after seeing him a few times, Wang Jing would always hold his hand and ask, "Auntie, can we see our Yiyu on TV in the future?"
