Chapter 3

Before picking up Su Wenxing, Qin Lian met with a real estate agent.

He had arranged to meet this agent beforehand; he had originally planned to rent a house near the school. However, due to Su Wenxing's sudden arrival, he changed his mind and decided to buy a house instead.

Buying a house is different from renting a house; it can't be done in just one or two days.

So before Qin Lian came over, he only chatted with the rental agent and asked them to help him find a reliable real estate agent. They then arranged to view the property this Saturday.

Ideally, the apartment should be near L University, as many buildings in that area are walk-up apartments. Qin Lian considered that Su Wenxing's health was not good, so it was best if the apartment wasn't on a very high floor.

He'll choose from the first, second, and third floors. Floors like the fourth, fifth, and sixth are not within his consideration.

After Qin Lian picked up Su Wenxing, the two left the school through the south gate.

There are many restaurants near their school, but considering that this is Su Wenxing's first time in L City, he probably hasn't explored the city much yet, so Qin Lian asked Su Wenxing if he wanted to go out and explore.

Qin Lian got his driver's license last year, and in the second semester of his junior year this year, he bought a car in L city. That way, he doesn't have to squeeze onto buses or subways with others when he occasionally goes out.

Su Wenxing said, "Sure, I haven't gone shopping in a long time. It's a rare opportunity to go out today, let's go to Century Square for a stroll."

Century Square is located within their district, not far from their school. If Qin Lian were to drive him there, it would only be a ten-minute drive.

Seeing that Su Wenxing had agreed, Qin Lian drove his car, which was parked in a nearby parking lot, over.

The two arrived at Century Square, but Su Wenxing, preoccupied with his own thoughts, didn't actually plan to go shopping with Qin Lian. After getting out of the car, he urged Qin Lian to find a restaurant to eat first.

Qin Lian found a private restaurant with a very nice ambiance and led Su Wenxing into a rather secluded private room.

The two sat down, and Qin Lian asked Su Wenxing to order food first.

Su Wenxing glanced at the menu, but without really looking at what dishes were available, he ordered two of the restaurant's signature dishes.

Su Wenxing ordered the food and handed the menu to Qin Lian.

"I've ordered, you can order now."

Upon hearing this, Qin Lian's slightly cold gaze lingered on Su Wenxing's face for a moment before he took the menu and casually ordered two dishes.

While waiting for the food to be served, Qin Lian asked, "What is it? Can you tell me now?"

Su Wenxing was afraid that the waiters serving the food would overhear their conversation, and subconsciously shook her head when she heard Qin Lian's words.

Seeing this, Qin Lian was not in a hurry, but patiently accompanied Su Wenxing to wait for the dishes to be served.

Once all the dishes were served, Su Wenxing, who was already very hungry, couldn't resist taking a couple of bites.

Feeling less hungry, Su Wenxing said to Qin Lian somewhat embarrassedly, "I'm sorry, I know your family has strict rules, and you believe in not talking while sleeping or eating, but I was really too hungry just now, so I couldn't help but eat a couple of bites first."

Qin Lian: "It's okay, there's no one else here, you can eat and talk at the same time."

Qin Lian said this, but he himself didn't seem inclined to touch his chopsticks.

Thinking about what he was about to say, Su Wenxing decided it was better not to continue eating.

Su Wenxing: "I won't eat anymore, just a couple of bites will do."

Qin Lian nodded upon hearing this, looking like he was waiting for him to continue.

Looking at his childhood friend sitting upright across from him, who seemed very honest, Su Wenxing suddenly found it hard to say anything.

He pursed his lips, nervously holding a cup of hot water, and it took him a long time to finally squeeze out a sentence.

"Qin Lian, how close are we?"

"Then, if I need you to do something, something that you, given your personality, would absolutely, ever do, would you be willing to do it for me?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Lian raised his sharp eyebrows slightly, but did not immediately reply.

Su Wenxing: "Why aren't you saying anything? Don't you want to? We're best friends. I thought you would do anything I asked you to do."

Qin Lian poured himself a glass of water, took a small sip, and then replied slowly, "That depends on what exactly I need to do and what benefits I'll get from doing it."

Upon hearing Qin Lian's words, Su Wenxing's pretty face immediately scrunched up like a bun.

"What if... you don't benefit, but only I do?"

"You get something in return? What kind of benefit?" Qin Lian asked, her long eyelashes slightly lifted, her gaze indifferently glancing at the person opposite her.

"For example... could it make me healthier and allow me to live longer?"

Upon hearing Su Wenxing's words, Qin Lian's pupils trembled involuntarily.

He had always known that Su Wenxing's health was poor and that he didn't seem like someone who could live a long and healthy life.

I also know that the atmosphere at the Su family has been very tense these past two years, and Su Wenxing's body seems to be unable to hold on for much longer.

But even though he knew, he pretended not to know unless someone told him.

It wasn't that he was unwilling to face reality, but... he couldn't bear to part with Su Wenxing.

Yes, even though Su Wenxing had been a troublesome person to him since childhood, Qin Lian was reluctant to let this trouble suddenly disappear completely one day.

After all, they had been friends for so many years, and Su Wenxing had called him "brother," so he didn't want anything to happen to Su Wenxing.

Upon hearing Su Wenxing say this, he said he could make him live a little longer?

This means that without Qin Lian's help, Su Wenxing would not have been able to live any longer.

Qin Lian didn't press further about what Su Wenxing specifically wanted him to do. Instead, he frowned slightly and asked, "Since you're not feeling well, why do you insist on coming here to study at university?"

Why not just stay home?

Why would someone have to travel all the way to such a far place by themselves?

Su Wenxing: "Because... I need your help, and now only you can help me."

At this point, Su Wenxing's eyes reddened, and she looked like she was about to cry.

Qin Lian was most afraid of him shedding tears, and immediately stood up from his seat with a chill running down his spine.

"Alright, tell me, what do you need me to do?"

Seeing that Qin Lian's attitude had softened, Su Wenxing sniffed and lowered his head while whispering, "Qin Lian, I... I had an attack a few days ago. Nobody was around me at the time, and I thought I was going to die."

Qin Lian walked over to Su Wenxing's side, thinking that this crybaby couldn't help but cry again.

To his surprise, Su Wenxing seemed much stronger than before.

When Qin Lian walked over, he found that Su Wenxing was not only not crying, but was actually laughing.

"I thought I was going to die, but I didn't expect that God would take pity on me. When I was in so much pain that I could hardly suffocate, a strange system bound itself to me."

Qin Lian's eyelids twitched involuntarily upon hearing this.

He kept wondering if he had misheard, how could he have gone from a melodramatic drama to a science fiction drama in the next second?

Before he could ask any questions, Su Wenxing spoke up again: "This strange system is a succubus system. You know what a succubus is, it's a kind of demon from the West, on par with fox spirits. I've bound myself to the succubus system. As long as I select someone nearby as my target, and then follow the tasks issued by the system to complete them, I can gain corresponding health points. Once these five points are all gone, I will immediately pass away."

After Su Wenxing finished speaking, he thought Qin Lian wouldn't believe him.

To his surprise, Qin Lian just stared at him strangely after hearing what he said.

Qin Lian stared at Su Wenxing and asked, "You...you're not planning to make me your target, are you?"

Su Wenxing nodded blankly upon hearing this. "That's right. My system is called the Succubus System. If I want to survive, I have to become a succubus. Succubi aren't exactly good things. The tasks the system will issue later will definitely be all shady. With my physical condition, I... I can't do *that* with strangers, can I?"

After listening, Qin Lian reached up and pressed his temples, looking like he had a headache.

Qin Lian: "But... have you ever thought about the fact that I'm a man, and you're a man too?"

Su Wenxing looked puzzled. "What's wrong with that? The system doesn't say I have to find a woman. Besides, I have a succubus system. If I suddenly do this or that to a pretty girl, she'll think I'm a pervert. I don't want to go to jail or make headlines."

Su Wenxing saw that Qin Lian was not speaking, but looking at him with a troubled expression.

Seeing that Su Wenxing was anxious, Qin Lian sat down next to Su Wenxing.

He looked at the air in front of him, but he couldn't see any panel at all.

But Su Wenxing could see it, and even pointed it out to him in a very serious manner.

Qin Lian: "Are you sure your system is reliable?"

Su Wenxing: "I'm about to die, even if it's unreliable, I have to give it a try!"

Hearing Su Wenxing say this, Qin Lian sighed slightly.

"Alright, then I'll give it a try with you. But I can't guarantee that I can do everything."

If it's just about having close contact with Su Wenxing, Qin Lian feels he can barely accept it.

What Qin Lian is afraid of now is that this system might be unreliable and might make them do something immoral or illegal.

If it's something particularly shameless, Qin Lian still can't help but want to refuse.
