After Chu Yunqi...
Chapter 64 Funeral
After everyone left, Zhou Jingzhan received a harassing phone call. He was so tired that he simply turned off the phone and went into the bedroom to sleep.
The curtains were drawn tightly, and he fell asleep quickly, regardless of day or night.
When I opened my eyes again, Zhou Jingzhan was sleeping on the side of the bed, hugging a pillow, with tears in the corners of his eyes.
He turned on his cell phone and found that it was only ten o'clock in the evening. He couldn't sleep well, so he lay on the bed in a daze with nothing to do.
Not long after, there was a hurried knock on the door. It was Zhou Wenxuan and Qin Huiping.
As soon as I opened the door, Qin Huiping was greeted with a barrage of scolding: "Why did you turn off your phone? You have so much going on at home, and you come here to hide away? Do you know how worried your father and I are about you?"
Zhou Jingzhan didn't react at all, his expression was indifferent: "I know why Chu Yunqi went abroad that year."
Zhou Wenxuan knew there was something hidden behind his reaction, but that didn't stop him from getting annoyed: "What's your attitude? You've given up your career and family for love. Don't be so desperate. Grow up!"
Zhou Jingzhan couldn't explain, so he turned around, found the letter and showed it to them.
Two minutes later, Zhou Wenxuan calmly put away the letter, his tone as nonchalant as if nothing had happened: "Grandma Zhao's funeral is tomorrow. We are all busy. You will preside over it."
For the first time, Zhou Jingzhan disliked his father's calmness and decisively refused, "I won't go."
"Then you should go back to work at the hospital."
Zhou Wenxuan was so persistent that Zhou Jingzhan finally released the anger he had been holding back for a long time: "I'm not going, I'm not going, I'm not going anywhere!"
After he finished speaking, Zhou Wenxuan slapped him, and then continued: "Listen carefully, I will give you one night to adjust. You must be here tomorrow. Don't forget your identity."
Zhou Jingzhan had never been beaten before, so Zhou Wenxuan's slapping him at this critical moment was like stirring up a hornet's nest. Zhou Jingzhan felt wronged for both himself and Chu Yunqi, and shouted, "You only care about the Zhou family and the benefits. My grandmother is the same. You have never considered Chu Yunqi!"
Considering that Zhou Jingzhan had just learned the cruel truth, Zhou Wenxuan could tolerate some of his outrageous behavior, but not the disrespect for the deceased.
He said angrily: "I've spoiled you so much that you have no manners at all. Kneel down!"
Zhou Jingzhan was still hesitating and looked unconvinced.
Zhou Wenxuan pulled out his belt, folded it in half, raised his hand, and hit Zhou Jingzhan hard, "Did you hear me?"
It was not known whether he truly knew he was wrong or was frightened by Zhou Wenxuan's sudden harshness, but Zhou Jingzhan finally knelt down.
His heart and body ached, tears had long blurred his vision, but Zhou Jingzhan remained silent.
After a while, Zhou Wenxuan finally stopped. Before leaving, he coldly told Zhou Jingzhan, "You must show up at the funeral on time tomorrow."
After saying that, he walked out of the door. Only then did Zhou Jingzhan realize that his mother had left without him noticing.
Qin Huiping was waiting outside the door. Seeing Zhou Wenxuan coming out with a worried look on his face, she anxiously asked, "How is our son?"
Zhou Wenxuan sighed and shook his head helplessly: "Still crying."
As they were talking, the couple got into the car. Without starting, Qin Huiping said, "How do we resolve this? Why don't I call Yunqi?"
"No, let's talk about it tomorrow. I'll talk to my son first."
Qin Huiping also echoed: "Well, don't you understand him? It's normal for him to be unable to accept such a thing. Why do you have to hit him?"
"It's our fault, actually. We've overprotected him since he was little. He's too innocent, and thinks too simply. He's like a child who never grows up. He's naive. This incident should teach him a lesson."
Qin Huiping couldn't help but worry: "You didn't hurt him, did you?"
"Don't worry, I know everything," Zhou Wenxuan couldn't help but sigh. "My mom is really something. She didn't tell anyone. And Yunqi is really a good kid. He endured such a huge injustice without saying a word. How can I repay such a huge debt of gratitude in the future?"
The two of them discussed leisurely and arrived home unknowingly.
I saw Zhou Jingzhan again in the afternoon of the next day.
It was raining at that time. Zhou Jingzhan was wearing a black suit and someone was holding a black umbrella for him. He looked lonely and steady standing in the drizzle.
Zhou Wenxuan and the other man sat in the car, looking at Zhou Jingzhan's tall figure walking towards them. Qin Huiping couldn't help but sigh: "I really feel like he has grown up in an instant."
Zhou Wenxuan looked at his son with both relief and heartache, and said stubbornly, "You can't handle anything at all. You should have grown up long ago."
Zhou Jingzhan got in the car and sat in the passenger seat. The driver also observed his expression and got out of the car on his own initiative.
Zhou Jingzhan exuded a chill, his tone more respectful than usual: "Mom and Dad."
His words and his distant attitude made Qin Huiping's throat sore.
Although Zhou Wenxuan didn't show it on his face, he was choking up and couldn't speak the truth. He withdrew some of his toughness and said softly, "Dad apologizes to you. I shouldn't have hit you yesterday."
Zhou Jingzhan's eyebrows were drooping, and he spoke in a weak voice: "I'm fine."
"Someone else has taken care of everything after the funeral. What do you think about Yunqi's incident?"
Zhou Jingzhan couldn't control his emotions when he heard Chu Yunqi's name. He turned his head to the side and looked out the window: "I don't know."
Zhou Wenxuan felt pain in his heart when he saw his son like this. He patted Zhou Jingzhan on the shoulder and said, "Don't think about it. Go home and have a good rest for two days."
Zhou Jingzhan nodded silently.
Because they were worried, Zhou Jingzhan was taken back to his parents' home. He was so tired that he didn't even want to talk and went straight into his room to sleep.
Zhou Wenxuan and the other man discussed quietly in the living room: "I'll contact Yunqi later. I need an explanation."
"Okay, just keep an eye on the time."
Zhou Wenxuan rubbed his brows and said, "Zhou Xiang called me yesterday, and I casually asked a few questions. Yunqi hasn't had an easy time these past few years."
In the afternoon, they both went to work as usual.
Zhou Jingzhan slept for ten hours and when he opened his eyes again it was already eleven o'clock in the evening. His eyelids felt heavy and his head ached. Not long after, he coughed a few times.
Hearing the noise, Zhou Wenxuan, who had been in the living room, came into the bedroom to see him. As soon as the light was turned on, Zhou Jingzhan curled up uncomfortably in the quilt.
Seeing that his face looked unwell, Zhou Wenxuan said worriedly, "Why do you look so uncomfortable? You don't have a fever, do you?" Then he reached into the quilt and touched Zhou Jingzhan's forehead.
The temperature was indeed not low, so Zhou Jingzhan covered him with the quilt again: "Get up in a while, eat something, and take the medicine."
Zhou Jingzhan didn't respond.
Zhou Wen chose the bedroom. Qin Huiping came out of her bedroom and asked, "How's it going? Is our son awake?"
"Well, he looks a bit feverish. Make him something to eat." Seeing that the time was almost up, "I'll call Yunqi."
Both of them knew what had happened, and there was nothing much to say. It was just a matter of informing each other and giving an explanation, so they ended the call in less than ten minutes.
When you are sick, you can only eat light food. Qin Huiping cooked some wontons and went into the house to call Zhou Jingzhan, but he couldn't get him to move.
