Chapter 49 Feeling Powerless

While Anning was in the bathroom, Lei Ting was panting heavily. He checked the time; it was 3 a.m. The man hadn't let up on him since 11 p.m. Lei Ting rubbed his back, took out Liuwei Dihuang Pills from the cabinet, and swallowed them. Lei Ting never thought he would have to take Liuwei Dihuang Pills. When Anning came back from the bathroom, he whispered playfully in his ear.

Anning: "What's wrong? Do you need to eat some kidneys to replenish your energy?"

Thunder: "Huh? You still remember this?"

Anning: "I looked up the dietary habits of Fengtian online. You like to eat barbecue and the like. I also have a basic understanding of the roasted pigeon you mentioned last time."

Thunder: "I knew my darling had me in her heart and was willing to search for everything about me."

An Ning: "I can't find you. The only thing I can find is that you're the eldest son of the Lei family, nothing else..."

Thunder: "Our family has always been low-key, but I'm the most high-profile one."

An Ning: "It's better to keep a low profile. I prefer to do things in a low-key manner."

Lei Ting: "Keeping a low profile won't work. When we get home, I'm going to set off a whole city of firecrackers in Fengtian, so everyone in Fengtian and the whole of Northeast China knows that I've remarried you. I'm also going to invest in billboards so our wedding photos are displayed in every corner of Fengtian for three days and three nights..."

An Ning: "Hahaha, haha... How childish! Lei Ting, have you been watching too many movies?! Haha..."

Thunder: "I'm willing to do anything as long as you like it."

An Ning: "I don't like it, it's too high-profile..."

Thunder: "So what do you want me to do?"

An Ning: "Just tell our relatives and friends! Don't be so high-profile."

Thunder: "Okay, whatever you say."

Lei Ting seemed completely obedient. An Ning looked up and saw his hair brushing against Lei Ting's chest. An Ning looked at him expectantly and waved her hands in front of Lei Ting's eyes. Lei Ting knew what she wanted from An Ning's wolfish expression. However, what Lei Ting wanted was for An Ning to fall completely in love with him, not to use him as a tool for sexual release. Besides, he was feeling a bit weak for the sixth time tonight, so he could only pretend to be stupid and ask.

Thunder: "Wife... what happened to your hand..."

An Ning: "Thunder, do you still have the strength...?"

Thunder: "An Ning. I have something very formal to tell you."

An Ning: "Huh? What?"

Lei Ting hugged An Ning, held her in his arms, and took her hands in his.

Thunder: "I am your husband. Not your tool for sexual gratification. I hope you can love all of me, not just crave these tender moments with me."

Lei Ting spoke very seriously. An Ning looked at him, pouted, leaned on Lei Ting's shoulder, and whispered in his ear.

Anning: "In a legal sense, you are still my ex-husband."

Lei Ting: "I never thought we were divorced. Even if we were, you didn't remarry and you wouldn't even go on blind dates. You still love me and are waiting for me. I'm sorry, I'm still too late."

Anning: "It gives me a headache to say sorry."

Lei Ting: "I...that's what I said to you that day. I said I'm sorry, I haven't loved you for two years...you just stared blankly and didn't say anything. Apart from the divorce, you haven't said a word to me since."

Anning: "Now! Do you love me now?"

Thunder: "Love, so much love, the kind of love that I'd give my life for."

Hearing Lei Ting constantly talking about love, An Ning had a mischievous idea. However, before she could look up from his ear, she felt a hot tear from Lei Ting fall onto her face. An Ning looked up at him; Lei Ting had his eyes closed and looked very painful. An Ning felt sorry for him and gently touched his face, wiping away every tear of regret.

Lei Ting: "An Ning, I will never let you suffer any injustice again."

Anning: "I'm not wronged, I don't feel wronged at all. You're doing well now, I can feel it. Your chest used to be warm, not cold. Leiting, what did I say today? I said that husband and wife should face things together and go through thick and thin together. I hope that you can hold my hand and stand shoulder to shoulder with me in the future, instead of always protecting me behind you. I don't blame you for cheating, I can't blame you at all."

Thunder: "I know you can forgive me because you can't remember now. I'm afraid that if you remember, remember that pain, you will push me away."

Anning: "Can you wait until I remember before worrying about these things? Leiting, you are not alone. I am here to walk with you. I will wipe away your tears from now on."

Thunder: "Okay."

An Ning spoke firmly, her eyes flashing with a spark that only Lei Ting could understand. Lei Ting patted her back. Back when they were at home, An Ning would wriggle around in his arms when she couldn't sleep well, and Lei Ting's patting would help her sleep much more soundly.

Despite having said so many loving words and done so many things together, Anning's mischievous little ideas kept growing. Taking advantage of Leiting's current romantic demeanor, Anning wanted to test him.

Anning: "Leiting, how much do you love me? How do you measure your love?"

Thunder: "I'll give my life to measure your happiness and well-being in this world. I'm willing to lay the foundation for your life anytime."

Anning suddenly sat up, carefully looked into Lei Ting's determined eyes, and then noticed a bottle of red wine on the table. A brilliant idea struck her. A naive and terrible one.

Anning: "Leiting, you drank a lot of red wine, didn't you?"

Thunder: "Yes..."

An Ning: "Hehe, I'm going to find a packet of antibiotics. If you take it, it means you love me."

Thunder: "Okay. The antibiotics are in the cabinet under the curtain, take a few more."

Lei Ting's resolute "okay" and his revelation of the medicine's location prompted An Ning a moment's hesitation. She then slipped on her nightgown and childishly skipped off to find the medicine. Lei Ting, still not sober, opened the bottle of wine that An Ning's gaze had lingered on. He gulped down several mouthfuls, seemingly trying to make things easier. An Ning felt incredibly childish, especially around Lei Ting, unconsciously doing things she didn't understand, like tonight. Three years ago, she certainly wouldn't have acted this way. Perhaps Lei Ting had changed An Ning a lot in the past two years; after all, she had found a way to sleep a hundred times more comfortable with him than any other sleep aids, and she believed only Lei Ting could give her this feeling. There really were medicines in the cabinet. An Ning checked the time; it was past 3 a.m. She grabbed a large handful of pills and headed upstairs.
