Lin Wangshu lived a lonely life, reborn as a five-year-old girl in the 1960s. Her father had already sacrificed his life, and her frail mother was barely holding on. Adding to her woes, distant rel...
Jiang Defu's eyes were somewhat dazed as he recalled standing outside the door years ago and hearing Principal Cong's wife ask An Jie if she was willing to go to the countryside with him to suffer.
He was so nervous that he stopped breathing, but finally he heard Anjie's firm "I do."
Jiang Weidong grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth, and looked at Lin Wangshu with a mixture of emotion and joy.
"Great!" Just then, a cheer came from outside the door.
Jiang Weidong's joy froze. He rushed to the door, opened it, and yelled, "Jiang Yafei, are you annoying me?"
He had finally heard Lin Wangshu's confession and was still feeling happy when Jiang Yafei came to spoil the mood.
Yafei made a face at him, flicked her braid, and walked away energetically.
"Okay, your mom will be so happy if she finds out. She talks about wanting to match you two up every day."
Jiang Defu was completely immune to Yafei's eavesdropping, and at this moment he smiled with satisfaction at Lin Wangshu.
Lin Wangshu could see the longing for An Jie in Jiang Defu's eyes, so she tentatively asked, "Dad, do you miss Mom?"
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Jiang Defu's face. "Your mother hasn't been back to Qingdao for a long time and wants to stay at her parents' home for a few more days."
Actually, An Jie didn't want to see Jiang Changyi, and he probably wouldn't come back before he left.
Sensing that Jiang Defu's answer was irrelevant, Lin Wangshu stopped talking about it, rubbed her toes on the floor, and said shyly, "Then I'll go out first, you should get some rest too."
Jiang Defu smiled and nodded, "Go ahead!"
"Big sister, let's go beachcombing today!" Yafei was bored at home because she didn't have to go to school during the holiday.
"I'm not going, it's too sunny." Lin Wangshu leaned against the bed, flipping through a book to pass the time. The thought of the scorching sun at the beach made her hesitate.
"Oh dear, good sister-in-law, just come with me!" Yafei had grasped Lin Wangshu's weakness; as long as she didn't have to call her sister-in-law, she was willing to do anything.
"Okay, okay, I'll go, alright? Please don't call me that anymore."
Lin Wangshu had no choice but to change her clothes and wrap herself up tightly, as she didn't want to get sunburned like a lump of coal.
When Jiang Weimin saw them going to the beach, he clamored to go too. Jiang Weiguo and Jiang Weidong went out, unwilling to take him along as a tagalong.
Upon arriving at the seaside, gazing at the boundless ocean, Lin Wangshu felt much more relaxed. She rolled up her trousers and waded into the cool seawater, chasing each other along the shore with Yafiya Ning.
The beach, the sea, the sunshine, and the girl's snow-white legs and silvery laughter captivated the man in the distance.
This man was Liang Ping, who had been sent to the countryside. He had suffered a lot during his two years as an educated youth, and his temperament had become much more stable, but he still missed Lin Wangshu.
He and Lin Wangshu hadn't met many times, but perhaps because what you can't have is always the best, Liang Ping could never forget her bright and beautiful face.
This holiday, his father, Deputy Political Commissar Liang, finally relented and allowed him to return. Seeing that Liang Ping was no longer as frivolous as before, he was very satisfied and felt that his decision to send him to the countryside was correct.
Upon hearing the news that Lin Wangshu had also returned home to visit her family, Liang Ping's heart soared to Songshan Island. After feeling restless at home for several days, he secretly came here hoping to see her.
The moment Liang Ping finally saw Lin Wangshu, he was suddenly overcome with an impulse. He wanted to tell her that he had changed and was no longer the playboy he used to be. Was he now qualified to marry her?
Lin Wangshu got tired of playing and sat on a rock on the shore, watching her younger siblings playing around with a smile on her face.
The glaring sunlight was blocked, and Lin Wangshu knew someone had come to her side. She looked up and saw a strange man with an excited expression on his face.
Lin Wangshu didn't remember who he was and looked somewhat puzzled. She couldn't help but ask, "Comrade, who are you?"
Liang Ping's face stiffened. He hadn't expected Lin Wangshu to have forgotten about him. He gave an awkward smile and said, "Comrade Lin, I'm Liang Ping."
Lin Wangshu remembered, withdrew her gaze, and asked in a cold and distant tone, "Comrade Liang, is there something you need?"
Liang Ping knew she didn't have a good impression of him, but he still brazenly sat down next to her, his tone apologetic, "Comrade Lin, I was wrong before, and I've been wanting to find an opportunity to apologize to you."
Lin Wangshu glanced at him in surprise, only then realizing that Liang Ping was now polite and not as unreliable as before. However, she didn't really like him and just said coldly, "It's okay."
But seeing her icy demeanor, Liang Ping's heart burned even hotter. "We've become friends through a fight, how about we start as acquaintances?"
"No need." Lin Wangshu didn't even look at him, only coldly uttering three words.
Yafei in the water had already noticed Liang Ping on the shore, buzzing around her older sister like a bee, clearly trying to steal her second brother away.
"Weimin, go and find my second brother. Tell him that my eldest sister is being harassed!"
Yafei rolled her eyes and pulled Jiang Weimin over to give him some instructions.
Jiang Weimin responded, and without even putting on his shoes, he ran barefoot to find Jiang Weidong.
Yafei pulled Ya Ning over and loudly interrupted Liang Ping's fawning words, "Second sister-in-law, is this your friend?"
Ya Ning glanced at Liang Ping curiously, then squeezed in between him and Lin Wangshu to sit down.
Liang Ping stumbled from the jostling, his face still showing a lingering shock from Ya Fei's second sister-in-law. He looked at Lin Wangshu, hoping she would speak up in rebuttal.
Lin Wangshu could see through their tricks, but she was also annoyed by Liang Ping's nagging. Even if they didn't come, she was leaving.
