Chapter 516 The Many Facets of Life

After sitting by Yang Sisi's bedside for a while, I asked her again, "Are you hungry? I'll go buy you something to eat."

"Nicole just brought me some food, crab porridge she made herself."

I smiled and replied, "You seem to have good interpersonal relationships. I've lived with Nicole for so long, and she's never cooked crab porridge for me."

"What you're saying sounds really weird to me!"

"We share an apartment...she lives downstairs, and I live upstairs, what are you thinking!"

"How wonderful! Why can't I find a talented man to share an apartment with?"

"Stop being sarcastic... Nicole kindly cooked for you, and you're throwing accusations at her. Doesn't that make her feel hurt?"

Yang Sisi laughed. That's just the kind of person she is. As soon as you change the subject, she immediately forgets about what made her unhappy. She then said to me, "Don't say I didn't think of you when there was something delicious. I even saved half of the porridge for you... It's in the insulated container. Go get it if you want some."

"You left this on purpose?"

"nonsense."

"How can you be sure I'll come? If I don't, you'll have stayed for nothing."

Yang Sisi looked at me with an exaggerated expression and said, "I'm already like this, and you still won't come to see me... Believe me or not, I'll become a wandering ghost and lie by your bedside every day, scaring you to death!"

I laughed as I picked up the insulated box from the table, opened it, and saw that it was still more than half full. Inside, there was not only crab meat but also crab roe, which looked incredibly appetizing.

I shook the spoon and asked Yang Sisi, "Did you just use this? I need to disinfect it first."

"Are you looking for death? ... If you're so capable, why don't you carry a bottle of disinfectant in your pocket and spray it everywhere you go? Do you really think you're some kind of germaphobe?"

“You’re right. These days, you’re not considered fashionable if you don’t have a few quirks.”

"Only someone with a mental illness would think that way."

...

While I was eating my porridge, Yang Sisi kept looking at me with her chin in her hand, and then asked me seemingly casually, "Michael, do you think I owe Ye Zhi such a big favor? Should I treat her to a meal? Come to think of it, it's been so long since I've seen her. I wonder if she's still as beautiful as before."

I mumbled a reply, "If you feel that your relationship is pretty good, then please..."

Before I could finish speaking, Yang Sisi interrupted me, saying, "Our relationship is definitely very good... You forgot, when I first came to Dali, I had nowhere to stay and stayed at her place for several days... The most disgusting thing is you, you went to peep at people taking a shower, and as a result, we tied you up and made you stand under the air conditioner for half a day... If our relationship wasn't good, would we be so united against you?"

"I don't remember this happening."

"Seaway Inn... Keep pretending, or do you want me to tell you the time and place?"

"The past is too painful to recall, let's not talk about it."

After saying that, I recalled that scene again, and couldn't help but feel a little emotional. It felt like only yesterday that several years had passed. Actually, I wasn't as bad as Yang Sisi made me out to be. It was just an emergency, and I accidentally saw Ye Zhi taking a shower. I didn't actually see anything; her body was hidden inside the bubbles. So, I was the one who really suffered, bearing the blame for nothing. I don't hate Ye Zhi, nor do I hate Yang Sisi for stirring things up. I only hate those bubbles.

Yes, that's what I thought at the time, and I didn't feel too ashamed, because it's perfectly normal for a man to have such little thoughts; but now, looking back, it's a completely different feeling.

I inexplicably feel old, with a touch of vicissitude in my heart. Perhaps it's because I've experienced too much, so my attitude towards many things is no longer limited to finding fun, but more about reminiscing.

Those were truly wonderful times!

At least, they live with passion and are full of boundless imagination for the future.

Yang Sisi pressed me again, asking, "Tell me honestly, did you actually look at her back then?"

"Can we talk about something serious?"

Yang Sisi sighed and replied dejectedly, "I was really bored to ask such a pointless question... She became your girlfriend later, so what difference does it make whether you saw her back then or not?"

"Go ahead and use your imagination, but I don't have time to waste with your nonsense... I haven't finished my work yet, so I'm leaving now."

"You beast, shameless...a voyeur..."

I left the clinic amidst Yang Sisi's curses... My emotions remained stable because I was already used to her unpredictable personality.

...

After being fully equipped, I got busy again, still delivering food; I was busy until 2:30 in the morning, and when I finished work, I felt as lost and empty as usual.

This isn't just being dramatic or dissatisfied with the status quo; I think any sensitive person would feel this way on a quiet night, facing an empty street.

After calming myself down, I went to the barbecue stall opposite Dali University and ordered a plate of fried rice and a can of beer.

It couldn't be a coincidence; I ran into that woman named An'an again...

I smiled and said to her, "I've been busy with work until now, but what about you?"

"I have insomnia and can't sleep, so I thought I'd go out for a drink."

"Oh, you have a typical disease of the rich... If you were like me, busy since this afternoon, I'd be lying in bed, completely distracted, and falling asleep in a heartbeat."
