Chapter 45 Pure White and Snow Elves Falling from the Sky
Bai had escaped from his father and the villagers a long time ago.
The teenager wandered around, and in this war-torn country, no one would pity the homeless child; they would even scold and beat him.
Some people disliked him because he was blocking their business, while others, like him, were afraid he would steal their food.
The snowflakes fell on him, but he was only covered by a thin white garment and had no reaction. His body was numb from the cold and no longer shivered at the falling snow.
He cautiously peeked out from behind the building, staring intently as someone passed by and threw away new trash. His throat, so dry it was hard to make a sound, involuntarily bobbed. After the person left, he hurried off to search for food.
"Woof woof!"
The sudden explosion behind him made Bai stop in his tracks. He turned around, his expressionless face facing the source of the fierce barking.
It's a stray dog, the kind that will steal his food.
The realization that came from the wound rose in Bai's mind. Faced with the incessant barking of the wild dogs, Bai did not flinch, or perhaps he felt no fear. He only knew that if he did not want to go hungry, he had to defeat the wild dogs.
He had been hungry for two days. He had exhausted all his strength to defeat one wild dog, but unexpectedly, two more wild dogs came and barked at him.
I'm going to go hungry again...
Bai thought blankly.
"You can't bully the big brother just because there are more dogs around!"
In the tense atmosphere, a tender, soft voice suddenly broke through.
Bai raised her head and looked at the little girl who appeared opposite her. She had short, shiny black hair with a delicate purple flower swaying in it. She was wrapped in a fluffy white coat and looked like a snow fairy, not human.
The stray dogs seemed to see a large number of people; they barked a few times and then retreated and ran away.
Without anyone to compete with for his food, Bai turned around and continued rummaging through the trash, but to his disappointment, there was no food inside.
"Big brother, what are you doing?"
The snow elf's voice rang in his ears again, and without the awareness of food, Bai finally deigned to turn his gaze to her.
Seeing that he didn't answer her, Haruko raised her hands and cupped his face in them. "Big brother, are you cold? You're wearing so little..."
Having not felt anything warmer than snow in a long time, Bai grabbed her wrist, preventing her from pulling her hand away, savoring the rare warmth.
Haruko was a little tired from raising her arm, and after he grabbed her wrist, she loosened her grip and let him stay close to her. "Big brother, why aren't you saying anything? Can't you talk?"
Bai blinked her eyelashes at the snow elf's curious big eyes, but still did not respond.
The snow fairy wasn't in a hurry. She rubbed his cheeks and said, "Big brother, do you want to come home with me? My mom will make lots of delicious food!"
Upon catching the word "eat," Bai's initial resistance vanished instantly.
He knew he couldn't go with strangers; those who had tried to take him away before all had ill intentions. But... if it was a snow elf, maybe it would be okay?
Bai thought uncertainly.
As pure white snow fell from the sky, he was led by a snow fairy to a brightly lit inn.
Before stepping inside, Shiro stopped in his tracks, causing Haruko Hayama to hesitate as well. When asked what was going on, Shiro shook his head. In the past, he only dared to look at such clean and warm places from afar, and if he looked for too long, he would be scolded by the boss.
Seeing that she couldn't get any information from him, the snow elf took his other hand and used the strength of both hands to pull him in.
Upon entering the inn, Bai subconsciously closed his eyes, but there were no angry shouts or punches around him. After a few seconds, he dared to slowly open his eyes. He was led by the snow elf, and although the people he passed looked at him strangely, they did nothing to him.
After entering the room, Haruko let go of his hand and ran inside to rummage through her things.
Bai stood still, not daring to move. He looked around the tidy room, then looked down at his disheveled self. For the first time, a feeling called inferiority appeared in his world, which was like a blank sheet of paper.
"This is my biggest piece of clothing. I wonder if it's big brother's size." Haruko Hayama walked up to him, interrupting his daydreaming.
Bai took a stack of thick clothes from her hands and held them quietly, staring at them without making a move.
Can he really wear such warm clothes?
Seeing that he didn't react, Haruko's tone was a little anxious, "Big brother, hurry up and change, or you'll get sick!"
After receiving permission, Bai finally moved. He gently placed the clothes in his hands aside and then took off his clothes, which were so dirty that their original color was no longer visible.
"Wait! I... I haven't turned around yet!"
The snow elf's face instantly turned red, and she frantically covered her eyes with her hands, holding the clothes she had taken off, not knowing what to do for a moment.
Did he upset the snow elf?
Just as Bai was at a loss, the snow fairy turned around and said, "Okay, big brother, you can continue! You're a boy and I'm a girl, we can't look at each other's bodies!"
So it turns out we can't see each other's bodies...?
After jotting down his new knowledge and quickly changing his clothes, Shiro hesitated before lightly touching the snow fairy's shoulder. Fortunately, Haruko was watching him closely, so he didn't miss it.
but……
"Big brother, you're wearing the wrong clothes! These are for wearing underneath!" Haruko Hayama couldn't bear to look at his haphazardly dressed outfit.
Clothes... can't you just put them on?
She vaguely sensed this meaning in her older brother's eyes, "..."
Fortunately, before she could worry about how to explain, her parents came home.
Bai lay quietly on the tatami mat, his hands pulling the soft blankets around him. He could smell a faint fragrance in his nose. He couldn't remember the last time he had slept in a bed, but he felt that none of his previous beds were as warm as the one he was lying in now.
The snow fairy's parents were very gentle; they not only bathed her and helped her get dressed, but also fed her delicious meals...
Haruko Hayama, who was already asleep next to him, had her mouth slightly open and her hand restlessly resting on his blanket.
After staring at it for a while, Bai couldn't help but reach out from under the covers and gently hold the snow sprite. It was small, soft, and so warm.
If this is a dream, he hopes he will never wake up.
...
"Does your older brother have any relatives?"
Bai Wei shook her head slightly and continued eating her meal.
The snow elf's mother sighed, "Such a small child, so pitiful..."
The snow elf was delighted and kept pestering her mother, asking, "Then can I take my big brother home?"
"Haruko, you can't talk like that." The snow elf's mother gave her a disapproving look.
Casually glancing at the snow elf's dejected expression, Bai tightened his grip on the bowl and chopsticks. He couldn't eat the delicious food anymore, nor could he be with the snow elf...
