Nine Lives, Nine Worlds of Tribulation

Memories are like ever-blooming stone flowers, yet only the self believes them to be eternal. Ultimately, what they bring is the ruthlessness of reincarnation; perhaps no one will wait this time.

Chapter 103 It Was Worth Dying

The dark forest was shrouded in mist and swallowed by the heavy rain. Mo Li frowned slightly and felt a tightness in his heart as he looked at the campsite emitting a faint light on the hillside not far away.

"The barbarians are stationed so close by. If they launch a surprise attack on Mulan's camp, she probably won't have a chance to fight back..." Mo Li decided that he had to destroy this place no matter what.

Wiping the rain from her face, Mo Li disregarded her weakness and quietly slipped inside—

The candlelight inside the tent was dim. Mo Li secretly peeked inside and saw three people huddled there. She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

One of the elderly men fiddled with a medicine bottle in his hand, like a pharmacist; another was a burly man, about two meters tall, lying on the ground fast asleep; and yet another was playing with a pet snake, probably the owner of the little golden snake.

"What time is it? Why isn't my Xiao Jin back yet?" The man's voice was harsh and hoarse as he patted the burly man lying on the ground with some displeasure. "Ah Dai, wake up! Go out and look for my Xiao Jin!"

The burly man called Ah Dai sat up, scratched his head blankly, and asked with a simple and honest expression, "Who is Xiao Jin?"

"You idiot, you're the little golden snake you brought back the other day! What a moron! If it weren't for the fact that you're somewhat strong, I would have already beaten you up, you blockhead..."

“My lord, it’s late at night and it’s still raining outside. If Ah Dai goes out, he won’t be able to find his way back.” The apothecary said coldly, “He’s just a beast. It’s better not to take him too seriously.”

Ben Gong Zhuowen frowned slightly. "Alright, Ono-kun, but I still hope to look for the little golden snake after dawn."

Ikeo Shun nodded and smiled sinisterly. "Of course, even I can't cure that beast's poison. If we could study it and apply it to our soldiers' weapons, that would be a good option."

Upon hearing Ikeo Shun's words, Mo Li was shocked. "What?"

Just then, a startled cry came from behind Mo Li: "Who goes there!"

Mo Li turned around and saw two masked men standing not far from her, so she quickly ran away.

"Quick, chase him! Don't let him get away!"

The three men inside the tent also came out. Seeing Mo Li's retreating figure, they hurriedly shouted, "Kill him quickly! He must have overheard our secret!"

Suddenly, countless men in black sprang out of the jungle and chased after Mo Li.

Mo Li frowned as he sensed the auras of the many powerful figures behind him. "Damn it! Who are these guys? They can't even be considered cultivators, yet they possess extraordinary physiques?"

The purple eyes ignored the darkness, giving Mo Li a moment to escape.

But just then, a whooshing sound came from deep within the forest, piercing through the wind and rain and heading towards Mo Li. Mo Li saw a sharp edge flash in the darkness and instinctively bent down to dodge. A throwing knife shot straight into the tree trunk behind him.

Mo Li swallowed hard. If he didn't dodge in time, his life would be in danger.

However, because of the obstruction caused by this throwing knife, the men in black who were chasing him arrived and surrounded him. Among them were three people from the tent. They must be extraordinary people, otherwise they wouldn't have arrived so quickly.

Mo Li noticed that the three people who had found him outside the door were also here. One of them, a short man, was holding a throwing knife that looked just like the one stuck in the tree trunk. Beside him was an old man with his head down and a gloomy face, his eyes filled with an indescribable sinister feeling. However, the one leading them was a man in black, wearing a black veil, with a youthful look between his brows, who was squinting at Mo Li with a venomous expression.

"Um... I'm not a bad person, we can talk things over." Mo Li quickly spoke up upon seeing this.

Seeing Mo Li's pale, handsome face, the leading man in black fiercely ordered, "Kill!"

Mo Li was stunned. Before he could react, two men in black behind him were attacking him with daggers. Mo Li's expression suddenly changed, and he quickly drew his jade flute to block in front of him.

The dagger struck the jade flute without producing any sparks; instead, the dagger was broken in two by the invisible blade on the jade flute.

Looking at the broken weapon in their hands, everyone stared at Mo Li in astonishment. Mo Li coldly looked at them and said, "Don't force me, or you will all die!"

Seeing Mo Li's pale face, the leader of the men in black stepped forward and deliberately lowered his voice, smiling as he spoke, "Of course you can live. I wonder if that beautiful General Hua can survive tonight?"

Mo Li was taken aback and subconsciously lowered her hand. "What do you know?"

Squinting at Mo Li's panicked expression, the man in black smiled as if mocking him. Mo Li suddenly sensed something was wrong. Just then, a man in black attacked from behind. The crossbow bolt, about the size of an arm, had a three-pronged head and an iron chain attached to the tail. It shot directly into Mo Li's chest.

"Ah—" Mo Li's chest was pierced, and three deep, bone-revealing holes stained his white clothes with blood.

Mo Li gritted his teeth, raised his jade flute, cut the iron chain, and turned to run into the depths of the forest.

"Hmph, he's at his last gasp. Chase him! I want him alive!" The man in black sneered as he watched Mo Li's staggering figure.

The speed Mo Li had suddenly unleashed left him exhausted. His chest ached terribly, and the loss of blood made his body grow cold. He knew that if this continued, he would be caught up, and once caught, he would surely die.

Mo Li shook her tired head. "I can't die! I have to go back and tell Mulan... cough..."

Mo Li gritted her teeth and kept running towards the edge of the forest. "Even if I die... I want to see her one more time!"

Seeing the red liquid mixed with the rainwater on the ground, the man in black's face darkened. "Chase after them!"
