Nine Lives, Nine Worlds of Tribulation

Memories are like ever-blooming stone flowers, yet only the self believes them to be eternal. Ultimately, what they bring is the ruthlessness of reincarnation; perhaps no one will wait this time.

Chapter 477 You're Home

Night fell, and the firelight illuminated the entire street. Across the wall of fire, werewolves lurked menacingly, their eyes glowing with an eerie green light in the darkness…

"These werewolves are holding back. Should we attack?" Li Mang asked impatiently, looking at the werewolves.

“No, if we leave the protection of this wall of fire, our combat power will be far inferior to theirs,” Gu Liyan said.

Wang Wen nodded in agreement. "Brother Mo is right. If the enemy doesn't move, we won't move either. Now we can only wait and see."

Gu Liyan looked at the werewolves outside the wall of fire and thought to himself, "These werewolves are able to remain still, there must be a werewolf king commanding them, but are werewolves really that smart these days..."

Thinking of this, Gu Liyan suddenly remembered a serious problem: "Could it be... that they are waiting for us to be starving and freezing before making their move?!"

Gu Liyan turned to Wang Wen and asked, "Brother Wang, are you cold?"

Wang Wen was taken aback, and looked at Gu Liyan with a puzzled expression, asking, "Brother Mo, are you cold? Should you put on some more clothes? It's alright now, but the temperature will drop further at night..."

At this point, Wang Wen suddenly understood the meaning behind Gu Liyan's words and asked in surprise, "Brother Mo, do you mean they will wait until the second half of the night, when the temperature drops, before attacking?"

Gu Liyan looked at the werewolves outside the wall of fire, narrowed his eyes, and said, "I didn't think this through. We know their weaknesses, but they also know ours. It seems we can't wait any longer..."

Zhang Wei, standing to the side, frowned and said, "I didn't expect these wolf cubs to be so cunning, and they even know how to scheme against us."

Gu Liyan said with a serious expression, "Wang Wen, prepare to retreat."

Wang Wen nodded and said "Okay," then addressed the others behind him, "Everyone, grab your weapons and prepare to retreat!"

Gu Liyan turned to look at Wang Qi, who looked nervous, and said, "You'll be coming with me in a bit."

Wang Qi nodded obediently and followed behind Gu Liyan. The group quietly retreated, but their movements were noticed by the werewolves on the other side of the fire wall, who roared incessantly.

"Don't let those humans escape, chase them!"

Among the wolf pack, a white-haired werewolf who appeared to be the leader spoke up and gave the order.

At his command, the werewolves chased after Gu Liyan and the others in the direction they had retreated.

The sound of footsteps behind me shook the earth with a thunderous roar.

Zhang Wei glanced back and saw the wolves chasing after them. He hurriedly said, "These wolves are actually chasing us without any scruples. We have to teach them a lesson!"

Gu Liyan shook his head. "Nighttime is their home ground. There's no chance of winning against them."

Gu Liyan looked at Wang Wen beside her and asked, "Where does this road lead?"

Wang Wen said, "This is the road to the capital. There are many small paths along the way. I think Brother Meng and the others must have retreated from here as well."

Gu Liyan nodded. "Alright, let's go to the royal city!"

Gu Liyan looked up and saw two more forks at the end of the road. He said, "You guys lead the way, I'll walk the rest of the way myself."

Wang Wen nodded. "These paths all lead to the royal city. Brother Mo, if we have a chance to escape, we'll meet in the royal city!"

"Okay!" Gu Liyan nodded, then looked at Wang Qi, who was following behind him and was already panting, and said, "Wang Qi, you and..."

"I'll go with you!" Wang Qi immediately said before Gu Liyan could even speak.

Gu Liyan did not refuse and nodded in agreement, "Okay! Stay close to me!"

Gu Liyan and Wang Qi headed towards the middle road. Zhang Wei and Wang Wen led a group and chose the left road, while Li Mang led his group to the right road.

As Gu Liyan fled, he heard relatively few werewolf footsteps approaching him. Perhaps it was because they saw that only he and Wang Qi had chosen this path.

Gu Liyan was looking at the forest ahead and thinking about how to get rid of it when Wang Qi behind him stumbled and fell to the ground.

Wang Qi cried out and fell to the ground, tears welling up in her eyes.

Upon seeing this, Gu Liyan hurriedly stepped forward and asked with concern, "How are you?"

Wang Qi gritted her teeth, stood up, and said, "It's nothing... Ah!"

Unexpectedly, she stumbled again after taking just one step to her feet. Seeing this, Gu Liyan rushed forward to support her. Noticing the bloodstains on her leg, he frowned and asked, "You said you were alright?"

Wang Qi felt wronged and didn't dare to speak.

Gu Liyan sighed and squatted down in front of her. "Come on, get on."

Wang Qi looked at Gu Liyan in surprise, her heart warmed instantly, and she climbed onto Gu Liyan's back, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Gu Liyan said nothing and ran towards the forest.

The wind whistled past her ears, and Wang Qi couldn't help but ask, "Mo Li, you run so fast! Aren't you tired?"

Gu Liyan said irritably, "Why are you talking so much nonsense while we're on the run!"

Wang Qi stuck out her tongue, becoming bolder, "I was just curious. It's the first time I've ever been carried on a boy's back..."

Gu Liyan turned around and glared at Wang Qi, annoyed, but didn't have time to pay attention to her. Hearing the commotion in the forest not far away, he frowned and said, "These werewolves are really fast! Hold on tight, I'm going to speed up."

"Huh?" Wang Qi was stunned. Gu Liyan moved even faster, and the wind stung her face.

This speed made Wang Qi doubt whether Gu Liyan was human!

The werewolves chasing Gu Liyan were panting heavily. One of them cursed, "That damn guy, is he even human?! He's faster than us!"

“This guy is obviously of superhuman royal blood, otherwise he wouldn’t have chosen this path alone. He’s definitely not easy to deal with,” another werewolf said, frowning.

"What should we do? We can't just let them get away, can we? If they escape, our secret with the Snake People Alliance will be exposed."
