Nine Lives, Nine Worlds of Tribulation

Memories are like ever-blooming stone flowers, yet only the self believes them to be eternal. Ultimately, what they bring is the ruthlessness of reincarnation; perhaps no one will wait this time.

Chapter 532 The Porter

Seeing that Li Hao's back and legs weren't aching and he wasn't even out of breath, the boss's eyes widened, and he pointed at Li Hao, saying, "Okay, if you can finish delivering before 5 o'clock, I'll give you a thousand!"

"Okay!" Li Hao nodded and, without wasting any time, quickly started moving things.

The boss chuckled and said, "Work hard!"

The waiter standing nearby looked grim and whispered, "Boss, is it really necessary to give him so much money?"

The boss whispered, "What do you know? The fewer people who know about this shipment, the better! Don't you think we can control just one person?"

The waiter nodded in sudden understanding. "I see! Boss is brilliant!"

"You watch him, I'll go notify the client first."

It took Li Hao half an hour to load most of the seafood onto the truck. He was already drenched in sweat, his back soaked through. Looking at the remaining few boxes covered with cloth, Li Hao relaxed. There should be enough time.

Li Hao calmly carried the last box onto the truck. His foot slipped and he tore open a corner of the cloth. Seeing that the foreman was smoking nearby and hadn't noticed him, he quickly covered it up. But when he saw the creature inside, Li Hao suddenly froze.

Its jet-black wings, like the claws of a demon, and sharp teeth, emitted a squeaking sound...

Li Hao was startled. "This, this is a bat?!"

There appeared to be nearly fifty bats, densely packed together in a large cage, which was truly frightening.

"Finished moving?" the guy asked as he came over after finishing his cigarette.

Li Hao casually covered it with a cloth and nodded to him, "All done moving."

The man nodded, and without saying a word, took out a thousand yuan and handed it to Li Hao. "Okay, you can go now. This is your salary."

"Okay." Li Hao silently took it and prepared to leave.

But the shop assistant stopped him and said, "Wait a minute, take this three hundred yuan."

“This is…” Li Hao looked at him in confusion.

"The boss said this is your payment for being on time," the waiter said.

Li Hao nodded. "Thank you." Li Hao put away the money and left.

The waiter watched Li Hao leave, then took out his phone to make a call. "He's been dealt with; they shouldn't have found any problems."

Li Hao counted the money; it was indeed 1,300, but something felt off. Why were they selling bats among the seafood? Could it be…?

"Could they be trading wild animals privately?" Li Hao had a guess, but since he had been paid hush money, he thought it was better not to make a fuss.

After buying rice, noodles, and a lot of fruits and vegetables at the supermarket, Li Hao carried a bunch of things out of the supermarket, attracting the attention of passersby.

It was already dark when Li Hao got home. As soon as he entered, he shouted, "Come and open the door! I brought back food!"

Hua Baixian hurriedly ran over to open the door and whispered, "Shh, keep your voice down, Xiao Li is asleep."

Li Hao pursed his lips. "Why is he sleeping at this hour? He hasn't eaten yet. Hurry up and wake him up."

Hua Baixian said helplessly, "His illness hasn't gotten better yet, especially his stomach ulcer, which hurts terribly every time he eats, and he still has a fever..."

Upon hearing this, Li Hao's expression changed, and he anxiously asked, "He's so sick, why did you let him leave the hospital?"

"Well, to be honest, Xiao Li was kicked out of the hospital..." As she spoke, Hua Baixian told Li Hao about what Dean Gao had done.

Li Hao was furious. "This is outrageous! How could there be such a person! This is too much! I bet he must be connected to those two big corporations!"

“We’ve seen plenty of schemes and tricks, so I’m not worried about what other tricks they might pull. My only concern is Xiao Li’s illness.” Hua Baixian said with a worried expression, “You were drunk yesterday and don’t know, he was in so much pain he almost fainted…”

Li Hao frowned and said, "Take some food and cook him something nice. I'll go to the hospital to see if there's any medicine to treat his illness."

Hua Baixian nodded. "By the way, remember to buy more fever reducers and anti-inflammatory drugs. His fever keeps recurring, and this won't do."

Li Hao nodded. "Okay! I'll buy more!"

Li Hao went to the hospital and didn't hesitate to spend the remaining 700 yuan. After the doctor's recommendation, he bought all the medicines that were suitable for his symptoms, including cold medicine, medicine for treating stomach ulcers, and even anti-inflammatory drugs, spending all the money.

The shop owner kindly gifted him a box of medical protective masks as a thank you gift, and he ended up carrying one box and leaving with the other.

When he got home, Hua Baixian was stunned to see that he had brought back so much medicine. "Didn't you say you were out of money? Why did you buy so much?"

"I really didn't know which medicine would work, so I bought all the cheap ones. Oh, by the way, these masks were a free gift, so I brought them back too," Li Hao said, pointing to the sealed box.

Hua Baixian said, both amused and exasperated, "It's just a mask, you want this too?"

"Why wouldn't you take something that's free? You never know when you might need it!" Li Hao said earnestly.

Hua Baixian didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "How long will that take?!"

Little did they know that these masks would become priceless and unavailable in the days to come!

With the medicine and Hua Baixian's meticulous care, Gu Liyan's condition improved. However, all of this was thanks to Li Hao for providing a relatively safe place to live.

Li Hao himself was also enjoying it, and he always felt it was only right to spend money on the two of them, without any complaints or discomfort.

A week passed in the blink of an eye. Li Hao had been working as a laborer for several days and, with his immense strength, had earned a net profit of 10,000 yuan. He suggested to Gu Liyan and Hua Baixian that they splurge on some seafood. After receiving their agreement, they went to the seafood restaurant where they had previously worked part-time, only to find that the restaurant was closed, as were all the seafood restaurants around it!
