Bai Yu is a young man born in a small coastal fishing village. His birth is extraordinary because he is a transmigrator, arriving with memories from another life. However, for a transmigrator, memo...
Half a month later, as April arrived, Bai Yu and the others had been at sea for two months.
As we enter April, global temperatures are warming up, not to mention the upcoming May Day holiday.
During the past two weeks, Bai Yu and his companions took a short trip along the beautiful west coast on a yacht.
It's a little better in Alaska, where Bai Yu and his team have connections with the local fisheries association and can find some people to issue a pass that allows people without visas to go ashore and explore.
However, since leaving Alaska, Bai Yu and his friends have lost all their acquaintances. Even with our family's relationship with Da Piao Liang, it's quite difficult to find someone to write a note.
Although they could land directly without a permit, that would be wrong. Without a visa, that's illegal immigration, something only prostitutes would do.
Runren people have no human rights. If you commit any crime in Da Piao Liang's family, it will be difficult to find someone to help you, since you came here illegally.
Therefore, Bai Yu and his group did not stay on the west coast of Da Piao Liang's home for long. They would occasionally dock for supplies, but otherwise they would not dock.
Although this kind of whirlwind tour doesn't really mean tourism, there's nothing they can do about it; their circumstances don't allow it.
Besides, they have now left the territory of the Great Beauty's home, and the rest of their voyage will still be smooth sailing.
Especially for anglers like Bai Yu, this is still a rich sea area, with much richer resources than our own backyard.
Especially when it comes to fishing, there are many big fish here, including the kinds we have at home and the kinds we don't have at home.
Especially in the tuna sector, the resources are much more abundant.
The bluefin tuna in this dish is quite different from the bluefin tuna we have here; you can tell from the name alone.
Our bluefin tuna is called bluefin tuna, but there are two kinds of bluefin tuna here: one is Pacific bluefin tuna, and the other is the same kind of bluefin tuna as ours.
What's the difference between these two?
In terms of size, the largest bluefin tuna is only seven or eight hundred pounds, and even then, they are the kind that are rarely seen even once in many years.
But Pacific tuna is different. The largest of these can grow to over a thousand pounds. The bluefin tuna that Bai Yu caught before, weighing over a thousand pounds, was a Pacific bluefin tuna.
These tuna typically weigh over 400 pounds, with 700 to 800 pounds being quite common. Would you say this is good news for Bai Yu and his crew?
On April 25th, Bai Yu and his group arrived near the coast of Peru. Further ahead, they would enter Peru's exclusive economic zone.
Many people may not be very familiar with Peru, but if we mention another country that borders Peru, Ecuador, many people will have heard of it.
Ecuadorian white shrimp, in particular, is a best-selling product in China. Whether it's an improved freshwater variety or a sea shrimp farmed directly in seawater, it sells very well.
Especially in the last two years, a wave of sales has emerged from who knows where, with seawater-farmed salt-frozen shrimp being sold everywhere online. Most of these shrimp are imported from Peru and Ecuador.
Well, the quality of these shrimp is indeed quite good, both in terms of size and quality, but buying these shrimp still requires luck.
After all, as these salt-frozen shrimp become more and more popular and sell better, the quality of them online has become increasingly inconsistent.
People have started mixing ice into the shrimp, passing off small shrimp as large shrimp, and even "bathing" shrimp, and so on.
The reason Bai Yu knows so much about this kind of shrimp is because his company also has this business, and every year they import a lot of salt-frozen shrimp from Peru.
However, Bai Yu's company has always marketed these shrimp as marine-farmed shrimp, and has included information such as their place of origin and farming time.
Their company works directly with the Peruvian Fisheries Association, where they also pay membership fees and have the right to conduct maritime operations in this area.
During their annual rest period, some of their company's fishing boats come here to fish.
Although Peru is really far from our home, the fuel cost for a round trip alone would be several million, and the round trip would take one or two months.
However, the area is rich in resources, and the catch from this fishing trip is enough to cover all costs, with a considerable surplus.
After all, if you're just sitting around doing nothing in the country, you might as well take advantage of the fishing moratorium to go fishing in other sea areas.
This is also the main reason why Bai Yu's company pays membership fees to an association in many sea areas, in order to find a place for their fishing boats to fish during the fishing moratorium.
Just like now, the yacht Bai Yu and his group are on has only just reached the outskirts of the Peruvian economic zone and hasn't even entered it yet.
Then they saw two very familiar fishing boats pass by them, and it seemed that their destination was Peru.
Bai Yu and his crew were on the deck. They had no intention of entering Peru's economic zone. They planned to fish in the open sea and, once they had a good catch, they would go to Peru to find a domestic fishing boat to sell their catch.
As for why they sold it to domestic fishing boats, it must be because they offered a high price. Who else could they sell it to if not them?
But to Bai Yu and his companions' surprise, before they even started fishing, two familiar fishing boats passed by in front of them.
"Hmm? Brother Yu, do you think those two fishing boats belong to our company? They have 'Qiong' written on the bow, and the color is a bit like our company's."
Fishing boats in Qinghai Province all have numbers starting with "Qiong," just like license plates for cars. Each fishing boat has its own unique number.
The two fishing boats that just passed by had the character "琼" (Qiong) written on their bows, but the rest of the numbers were a bit hard to read.
However, the color scheme of those two fishing boats was quite similar to that of their company's, both being red, blue, and white, which is why Li Shuang asked that question.
"It does look somewhat like it, but we don't know its number. We're too far away to see clearly, and we don't know if it's outside the radio's coverage area."
Bai Yu also looked at the two fishing boats that were now only visible from behind, and he was a little unsure whether they were his company's fishing boats.
Regardless of whether it is true or not, they don't plan to concern themselves with it for now. They have other things to do, so they'll deal with confirming the information about the two fishing boats later.
So Bai Yu just glanced at it, and then focused on his work, preparing the fishing gear for tuna fishing.
They came to this open sea to fish, and their goal was very clear: to catch Pacific bluefin tuna.
If they can catch a tuna weighing seven or eight hundred pounds, that would be at least tens of thousands of US dollars.
Lured by such high profits, Bai Yu and the others were filled with anticipation; everyone wanted to catch a fish bigger than they could have imagined.
They are now preparing to catch big fish, and the fishing gear they are using, including fishing rods, lines, and hooks, is all specially made.
The fishing lines prepared by Bai Yu are all super strong fishing lines. These lines are very thick and extremely tough, enough to catch fish weighing over a thousand pounds.
The fishing line that Bai Yu prepared was also incredibly long, a full two thousand meters. Just the length of the line coiled around the reel was enormous.
Anyway, the fishing rod that Bai Yu is currently using, with the addition of this reel, makes the reel look like the baffle on a heavy machine gun—it's huge and exaggerated.
The same goes for the fish hooks. One fish hook is bigger than Bai Yu's palm, and it weighs nearly two pounds.
In order to catch Pacific bluefin tuna weighing several hundred kilograms, Bai Yu and his crew used heavy bait, with half a cod weighing over ten kilograms attached to their hooks.
To be honest, this is the first time I've ever tried using cod to fish for tuna, so I don't know if it will be effective.
However, they couldn't do without cod, as the only decent-sized fish on their yacht were the cod, and the rest of the bait was too small.
If you're fishing for a tuna that weighs several hundred pounds, you can't possibly put a pound of bait on the hook, can you?
Even if a tuna saw this one-pound bait, it might not be interested in it at all and wouldn't have any appetite.
So even though using cod to fish for tuna doesn't guarantee a catch, Shiraho is prepared to give it a try, just in case they succeed.
With all preparations complete, Bai Yu secured his fishing rod to the railing and then cast the baited hook into the water.
It was just thrown in along the edge of the yacht; there was no intention to cast a line. Such a large bait doesn't need to be cast.
As for the depth that Bai Yu chose to fish, he set it at 200 meters, which is at most considered to be in the middle and upper layers of the sea area where they are located.
Li Xue was fishing at a depth of 1050 meters, Wang Hai at 230 meters, Li Shuang at 260 meters, and the others were fishing at different depths.
This was their first time visiting this area, so they weren't very familiar with its resources.
The only thing they were sure of was that there were big fish in the area they were in, since they had fish finders on their boat.
Another point I know is that the water depth in this area is over 500 meters, and it is even deeper in some places with trenches.
For this area of sea, they can only fish from an exploratory perspective, to see which depth has the best resources.
