Chapter 136 I Don't Want Another Sister

Wei Teng paused for a moment, and his wrist was immediately stabbed by the girl. He cried out in pain and let go.

The broadsword slammed to the ground with a "bang".

Are you alright?

Wei Yan walked towards Yun Shu and asked with concern.

Yun Shu shook her head.

"I'm fine."

Wei Teng understood everything now.

This girl is undoubtedly Yun Shu, the one who saved Wei Yan's life.

He gave a cold laugh.

"Xiao Yan, let me give you some advice: be careful when making friends. Not everyone who is nice to you is truly looking out for you; they might have ulterior motives."

Wei Yan turned around and asked, "Is Big Brother talking about himself?"

Wei Teng: "..."

He bent down to pick up the broadsword from the ground, sheathed it, and then gave Yun Shu a deep look.

He then turned to Wei Yan and said, "Xiao Yan, for your sake, I will let bygones be bygones for the insults and injuries she caused me. But I must remind you that not just anyone can enter the gates of our Duke Anguo's mansion. Even if you have lost both arms, you are not someone that a poor family like the Yun family can aspire to."

Having said that, he untied the horse that was tied to the door and rode away.

"I'm sorry," Wei Yan apologized to Yun Shu, "I made you get barked at by a mad dog."

Yun Shu smiled sweetly.

"Let him bark if he wants. He can only bark, he can't bite me anyway."

Wei Yan smiled too.

However, he still reminded Yun Shu: "Wei Teng may seem righteous and upright, but he's actually quite petty. If you hurt him, he might hold a grudge against you. You should be careful."

"Mmm." Yun Shu nodded and asked him, "Are you feeling better?"

"Much better," Wei Yan replied. "I only felt pain once last night while sleeping."

"That's good. I'll start sweeping now."

Yun Shu threw away the broom that had been cut in two and took a new broom to sweep the floor outside.

She swept with utmost care, not even noticing a strand of hair slipping past her ear.

Wei Yan saw this and really wanted to help her get up.

But as soon as the thought crossed my mind, I remembered that I no longer had arms.

It's simply impossible to do something like that.

A sense of loss suddenly washed over me.

A little while later, Yun Shu finished cleaning up and saw him staring blankly, so she came over and poked his nose.

"What are you daydreaming about? Haven't you ever seen someone sweeping the floor before?"

Wei Yan snapped out of her daze and chuckled, "Where is anyone sweeping? I only saw a cat waving its paws."

"Fine, you dare call me a raccoon dog? I'll scratch you to death!"

As Yun Shu spoke, she reached out and tickled Wei Yan's side.

Wei Yan couldn't dodge in time and was scratched squarely.

It tickled so much I couldn't stop laughing.

"Stop it! Men and women shouldn't touch each other. How could you scratch me like that?"

"I'm not a man or a woman, I'm just a cat."

Yun Shu teased.

Wei Yan had no choice but to beg for mercy.

"Alright, it's my fault. I shouldn't have teased Lady Yun about being a cat."

"That's more like it."

Yun Shu stopped what she was doing.

"I'm going to throw out the trash. You'd better go home quickly and don't stand on the side of the road, or a dog might bite you."

"good."

Wei Yan stood there, watching her departing figure, before returning to his residence after a long while.

Ning asked him, "What were you talking about with Yun Shu just now? You were laughing so happily."

"We didn't talk about much, just exchanged a few casual words."

Wei Yan smiled slightly.

"Mother doesn't believe me."

Ning raised an eyebrow.

"You've never laughed like this when you're chatting with your mother."

"My mother and I have never laughed like this when we chat."

Wei Yan replied.

"It seems that our Yan'er will have to keep his little secret."

Ning said with a smile.

"Mother really likes that girl Yun Shu. Invite her over for meals more often when you have time."

"They don't lack food."

Wei Yan muttered.

He then realized the implication in his mother's words, and his face suddenly turned red.

He and Yun Shu are just friends. What are you thinking, Mother?

But his mother didn't say it explicitly, so he couldn't refute it.

All I could do was glare at her.

Seeing that he understood, Ning smiled and said, "Of course I know she has enough to eat, it's me who needs company. Yun Shu is a beautiful and kind girl, I'd like to adopt her as my goddaughter."

"How could you possibly adopt her as your goddaughter?"

Wei Yan subconsciously retorted.

Why not?

Ning asked in return.

“I don’t have a daughter and she doesn’t have a mother, wouldn’t it be great if we were a perfect match? I will definitely treat her like my own daughter, and when she gets married, I will give her a dowry of a hundred or two hundred taels of silver.”

Wei Yan couldn't understand why he resisted doing it.

I just feel very uncomfortable.

"No means no. There's no need for so many whys. I don't want another little sister."

He said with a look of irritability.

After saying that, she went back to her own courtyard, not wanting to hear her talk about it anymore.

Ning sighed behind him.

Silly child, this is all the help your mother can give you.

This incident left Wei Yan feeling rather depressed, and he didn't even have much of an appetite for dinner. He only drank a bowl of soup and swallowed a few mouthfuls of rice.

After dinner, he was bored, so he asked Zimo to look through some books for him.

Zi Mo bought the book a few days ago, saying it's a popular erotic novel that's easy to read and perfect for passing the time.

I hadn't read Wei Yan before, so I found it quite interesting. I've read several of his books these past few days while recovering from my injury.

But he skimmed through it, swallowing it whole, and didn't really appreciate its flavor.

I felt that the men and women in the book were all too fake. They were willing to live and die for a little love, as if people lived only for love and romance.

The same goes for this one. He could guess the ending just by reading the beginning, and he found it really boring. Just as he was about to tell Zimo to put the book away, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a dialogue.
