"It really wasn't easy."

Xiao Qingyin walked to Han's side and patted her back to help her catch her breath.

"After all, not everyone is as unlucky as me, and has such a long-lived grandmother as you. If you had died earlier, we would have met in the funeral hall."

"You! Cough cough cough—"

Lou was so angry that a mouthful of phlegm welled up inside her, choking her half to death.

"I told you we shouldn't have met. You can't stand to see such a filial granddaughter like me."

Xiao Qingyin chuckled softly.

Han's emotions calmed down a bit, and she patted Xiao Qingyin's hand.

"Don't speak so directly, or you'll anger her to death here, and then the Xiao family will turn around and blame you again."

"Okay, I'll listen to you and take it easy."

Xiao Qingyin said obediently.

Lou finally stopped coughing.

He looked at Xiao Qingyin with a sinister gaze.

"I've come here to talk to you about your mother's remains."

Xiao Qingyin's smile faltered.

Han was furious again and said to Xiao Qingyin, "She just said that your mother's remains are in her hands."

"That's right."

Lou grinned, revealing a toothless smile.

“Your mother died under such bad luck that I was afraid she would ruin the fortune of our Xiao family. So I found a master to perform a ritual and suppress her remains under a Buddhist pagoda.”

"You're shameless!"

Enraged, Han abruptly stood up and slapped Lou across the stone table.

Lou's head was slapped to one side.

She spat out a tooth with a "pui" sound.

He sneered, "My dear in-law, you'd better not get too excited. If you kill me, your daughter's remains will never be found again."

Xiao Qingyin had never seen such a despicable and shameless person before.

She helped Han sit down and massaged her acupoints to help her relax.

He sneered, "Speak, what is your purpose?"

Since Lou didn't say anything, no one knew that she had taken the remains.

The reason I'm bringing this up is definitely not to provoke a beating.

"Talking to smart people is so much easier."

Lou gave a forced, insincere smile.

"I know why you've been making such a big fuss about finding your mother's remains—it's all to get back her dowry."

Unfortunately, that dowry has already been spent by our Xiao family.

This can be considered compensation for the Yun family dragging down our Xiao family.

"I will return your mother's remains as long as you promise not to claim Yun's dowry."

Han was so angry at her self-righteous words that she felt a surge of anger.

I almost fainted.

Xiao Qingyin laughed instead of getting angry: "Aren't you afraid we'll send you to the yamen?"

"What do I have to be afraid of? I've lived for so many years, dying in prison isn't so scary."

"You can forget about getting the Yun family's remains back."

Lou grinned maliciously.

Xiao Qingyin remained silent for a moment.

The Lou family was certain that the women cared about Yun's remains.

For them, the skeleton was indeed more important than the dowry.

Lou took out a piece of paper from her bosom.

"The contract has been written; please sign it."

Xiao Qingyin took it and saw that it read: "We have now received the entire dowry from the Yun family returned by the Xiao family. The Xiao and Yun families are now even and have no further connection."

She sneered.

"What a brilliant plan."

"You flatter me."

Lou smiled modestly.

Ji Yunhua was about to throw up from looking at it.

Lou's face twitched.

"This is none of your business."

She didn't even glance at Ji Yunhua.

Looking at the contract, Han felt an urge to slap Lou again.

This old hag, before the Yun family fell from grace, would visit every few days, more attentive than a bee.

Now that they've seen the Yun family is no longer able to rise again, they're so eager to devour their blood and drink their flesh.

Once she retrieves Wan Yin's remains, she will risk her life to bring Lou Shi to justice.

"Okay, I'll sign."

Han clenched his fist.

"Qingyin, fetch me a brush and ink."

"I'll go."

Ji Yunhua turned and left.

He quickly retrieved the writing brush and ink.

Han signed his name.

Lou picked up the contract, blew the ink off it, and said with satisfaction, "Alright, I'll take you to retrieve the remains now."

"Where?"

"You'll know when you get there."

Lou did not say it directly.

Just as Han was about to get up, Xiao Qingyin pressed her down to sit down.

"Grandmother, Yunhua and I will go. You wait at home."

Han shook her head.

"I want to bring your mother back myself."

Just as Xiao Qingyin was about to continue persuading him, Lou Shi interjected.

"Only your eldest granddaughter is allowed to go; no one else is permitted to come with her."

Han was furious.

"Don't push your luck!"

Mrs. Lou remained calm.

"This is for your own good."

Xiao Qingyin narrowed her eyes.

Lou's request is too strange. Why is it limited to just her?

Did she really take her to retrieve the remains?

Xiao Qingyin gave Ji Yunhua a wink that only the two of them could understand.

Ji Yunhua nodded.

Xiao Qingyin replied, "Okay, I'll go by myself."

Just as Madam Han was about to speak, Xiao Qingyin comforted her, "Grandmother, I think Mother wouldn't want you to see her like this either. Let me tidy her up first, then you can see her."

Han clenched her fists and didn't insist any further.

Xiao Qingyin looked at Madam Lou: "Alright, let's go."

Lou put the contract in her bosom, then took Xiao Qingyin into the Xiao family's carriage and headed towards the north gate of the city.
