Chapter 69 Beer Duck
Sun Yanan was woken up early this morning by her mother to go to the farmers market with her.
What's so great about the farmers' market? It's full of elderly people!
Sun Yanan pouted and yawned.
Then she noticed a figure ahead that looked familiar, and unsure, she called out, "Tang Yiyi!"
Tang Yiyi turned around and saw a girl smiling at her in a blue hoodie. Wasn't that Sun Yanan, the original owner's college classmate?
"Ya Nan, I didn't expect to run into you here."
The original owner and Sun Yanan had a fairly good relationship.
Having not seen each other for a long time, the naturally talkative Sun Yanan had a lot to say. "Yiyi, what have you been up to lately? Are you in a relationship?"
Tang Yiyi was at a loss for words when faced with a series of questions.
“I run a restaurant, not far from the market.”
"Wow, Yi Yi, you're amazing! I'll bring my friends to your restaurant another day," Sun Yanan said, her eyes lighting up.
"Okay, welcome."
Sun Yanan suddenly said, "Yi Yi, you still haven't said whether you're in a relationship or not."
"Running a shop is hard work, where would I find the time to date?" Tang Yiyi was the same way in her past life, putting all her effort into the restaurant.
“Yi Yi, you’re so beautiful, it’s a shame you don’t have a passionate romance,” Sun Yanan remarked, then added, “By the way, do you remember Senior Ji Ze?”
Ji Ze, a vague impression flashed through Tang Yiyi's mind.
"I don't remember."
"To be honest, I really ship you and Senior Ji Ze," Sun Yanan said, her eyes sparkling.
Could it be that the original owner had a significant connection with this senior during her university years? Tang Yiyi imagined many possibilities, but still said, "Impossible, or maybe he already has a girlfriend!"
“Yi Yi, you don’t know this, do you? Senior Ji Ze is still single,” Sun Yanan couldn’t help but add.
"Alright, I have something to do, so I won't chat any longer," Tang Yiyi said, remembering her business, and ended the chat.
"Let's chat on the phone," Sun Yanan waved goodbye.
Tang Yiyi originally wanted to buy some duck and beer to cook, and after visiting several stalls, she found one she liked.
The owner handled the duck feathers swiftly and efficiently, and the price was clearly displayed on a sign.
Tang Yiyi wasn't buying a small amount, so she asked, "Boss, I want to buy more than a dozen ducks. Can you give me a discount?"
"Sure, no problem."
After selecting a plump duck, the owner grabs it, weighs it on an electronic scale, and then begins to pluck its feathers.
Tang Yiyi bought the beer at a nearby convenience store and asked the owner to deliver a case of beer to the restaurant entrance.
Back at the restaurant, Tang Yiyi first soaked the wet rice noodles in hot water, then washed the eggs, added tea leaves and spices, and cooked them in the rice cooker.
We'll deal with the duck later.
The room was a bit dark, so Tang Yiyi turned on the lights.
Every time Gu Jia came to school, she couldn't help but stop and walk past Tang's Restaurant.
The aroma wafting from inside is so wonderful, it's like a little hook that easily entices passersby.
Gu Jia followed the aroma into the restaurant.
I originally came to buy tea eggs, but ended up asking the owner, "Boss, give me two tea eggs."
"Sorry, the tea eggs will be ready in a little while."
The boss spoke in a very gentle tone.
Gu Jia glanced at the menu on the counter, smelled the aroma in the air, and was really tempted. "Do you have green pepper and shredded pork rice noodles? Give me two servings, to go."
Tang Yiyi nodded, "Yes, please wait here for a moment, it will be ready soon."
After not coming for several days, Gu Jia noticed that the store's decor had changed; it was much brighter and more spacious, giving people a completely new feeling.
Tang Yiyi took the soup noodles out of the pot, then put them into a lunchbox, packed them up, and gave them to the little girl.
"Thank you, sister!"
When I arrived at the classroom, there weren't many people there yet.
Su Yue had already arrived and was lying on the table.
"Xiaoyue, have you had breakfast yet?"
"Not yet," Su Yue replied, as she hadn't decided what to eat for breakfast.
"I packed two servings of rice noodle soup, do you want some?" Gu Jia asked, as Xiaoyue didn't seem to like rice noodles much.
"Eat, thank you Jiajia!"
Upon opening the packaging, Gu Jia's gaze fell upon the steaming green pepper and shredded pork noodles.
The green pepper and shredded pork soup noodles, freshly cooked, are still steaming hot. The tender green peppers and shredded pork are placed on top of the rice noodles, each strand distinct, with a hint of rice aroma. It's simply irresistible.
Gu Jia felt a pang of hunger, picked up a clump of rice noodles, mixed it with some shredded meat, and put it in her mouth.
The rice noodles are very fragrant, smooth and delicious, and coated with the broth, making them flavorful without being greasy at all.
She glanced up at Su Yue as she ate. Su Yue buried her head in her lunchbox, eating heartily with focused attention.
It's so delicious, no wonder even Xiaoyue, who doesn't like rice noodles, likes it.
Gu Jia looked away and quickly rolled up a lump of rice noodles; she couldn't bear to stop.
This rice noodle soup is so delicious! The rice noodles are smooth and delicious, and the side dishes, such as diced radish and shredded kelp, are perfect. It's the first time she's ever had such delicious rice noodles!
A bowl of soup noodles costs only a few dollars, but it's enough to fill you up, which is really nice.
"What are you eating? It smells so good!" A boy walked in from the back of the classroom and took a deep sniff.
The boy who spoke was named Li Ming, the class's academic and sports representative, and also an athletic star. He walked in carrying two steamed buns.
While eating steamed buns, Li Ming passed by Gu Jia's table and said, "So it's you eating noodles. They smell so good! Which shop did you buy them from?"
The rich aroma made Li Ming stop in his tracks.
Gu Jia: "I won't tell you unless you beg me!"
"Sister, please tell me," Li Ming immediately softened his attitude, demonstrating his ability to be flexible and adaptable.
"You're all eating rice noodles, but I'm eating steamed buns. Even the steamed buns don't taste as good anymore!"
Gu Jia: "Okay, I'm not teasing you anymore. I bought it from a small restaurant near the school gate. They probably only sell rice noodles in the morning."
Upon hearing this, Li Ming longed for the rice noodles so much that he could practically see them.
"Don't even think about it, there's no way I'll give you any," Gu Jia said silently, protecting the lunchbox.
By 9:30, all the rice noodles were sold out.
Most of the customers who come to eat the soup noodles are students, and most of them take the leftovers home.
Tang Yiyi prepared the duck meat and marinated it beforehand to remove any fishy smell.
Prepare the spices, garlic, and ginger, and take out a bottle of beer.
My phone beeped; Grandpa Jianhao wanted to order food.
[Boss, I'd like to order a beer-braised duck for lunch today, delivered to the teaching building. It's for my grandson. Please put less beer in it.]
Tang Yiyi said she received it, and soon Jianhao's grandfather sent her a red envelope.
She's a straightforward person! Having a customer like this makes her life much easier.
Heat oil in a pan, add duck meat, and stir-fry until the duck loses its color. Add dried chili peppers, garlic, and other seasonings. Pour in dark soy sauce for color and cooking wine to remove any gamey smell. Then pour in about half a bottle of beer, just enough to cover the duck meat. Cover the pan and simmer for a while.
When the pot is uncovered again, a wonderful aroma wafts out. The broth is an enticing dark brown color, and the duck meat is soaked in the broth before being served.
Tang Yiyi packed the takeout food and handed it to He An.
He An put the takeout food into the box on the back of his electric scooter and then went to deliver it.
On a cool afternoon, some students didn't go to the cafeteria or go home to eat. Instead, they ordered takeout and ate on stone benches under the shade of trees.
Spicy hot pot, rice noodle soup, and jianbing (Chinese crepes) were all popular choices. If they felt thirsty, they'd go to the convenience store to buy a drink, eat lunch while drinking, and then go back to the classroom for a nap.
After picking up their takeout, the students found seats.
One of the girls proudly declared, "What are you eating? My grandma ordered me spicy hot pot!"
"Your grandma is really great, Wu Qi!"
Wu Qi said proudly, "My grandma is the best to me. Luckily, my parents aren't home, or they definitely wouldn't let me eat!"
What are you eating?
"My dad ordered noodle soup today, mushroom and chicken noodle soup, it looks pretty bland."
"Jianhao, what do you want to eat?"
Zhao Jianhao wasn't sure either, "Maybe it's because of food."
Wu Qi said smugly, "What's so great about rice!"
Zhao Jianhao has always had a light diet because he has a sensitive stomach.
The students didn't like simple meals; they thought bland food was unpalatable.
"The spicy hot pot smells so good, my grandma is so good!"
Wu Qi ate in front of everyone, just to make them envious.
"This rice noodle is so bland, I can't eat it. I'd rather eat instant noodles!"
"Instant noodles? Why don't you try my instant noodles?"
"Zhao Jianhao, have you picked up your takeout yet?"
"It should be ready soon, I'll go get it."
Upon hearing this, Wu Qi slowed down her eating pace.
Two or three minutes later, Zhao Jianhao arrived with his takeout, looking somewhat troubled. His grandfather had ordered him another boxed meal, which he didn't particularly like.
"Zhao Jianhao, you want a boxed lunch? Oh no!"
The other children cast sympathetic glances at Zhao Jianhao.
Wu Qi was eating spicy hot pot, and the aroma wafting out was enough to make anyone's mouth water.
Zhao Jianhao frowned and opened the lunchbox.
"Hey, what kind of meat is this? It smells so good!"
"Jianhao, can I have a piece?"
Zhao Jianhao belatedly realized that the old man seemed to have ordered from this takeout restaurant before. Had he eaten there?
Wu Qi scoffed, picking up a slice of meat. "Rice can't compare to the aroma of spicy hot pot. Do you guys get to eat spicy hot pot every day?"
"Qiqi, this dish smells so good!"
Inside the white lunchbox was a dark brown broth, with plenty of duck meat soaking in it. There were also some dried chili peppers and ginger slices, which looked very tempting. You can't eat a dish like this at home every day.
"Hurry up and eat your lunch, Zhao Jianhao's food isn't appetizing at all!" Wu Qi said speechlessly.
Before picking up his chopsticks, Zhao Jianhao shared some beer-braised duck with his friends. The duck meat, stewed for a long time, was very flavorful and delicious.
The students around him were drooling. "Jianhao, can I have a piece?"
"Isn't it delicious?"
Zhao Jianhao felt that the duck meat in his mouth was very firm, chewy, fragrant and spicy, without any strange taste.
"Here, have a taste."
Zhao Jianhao was very generous and shared with his classmates.
"Thank you, Jianhao."
"It's super delicious, I feel like I could eat several bowls of rice with it!"
"How can it be so delicious? It's so appetizing."
"..."
"Is this really necessary?" Wu Qi suddenly lost her appetite and couldn't understand it.
Zhao Jianhao was quite happy; sharing with friends is a joy. He then buried himself in his food.
The portion sizes were quite generous. Tang Yiyi didn't deliberately reduce the portions just because the students were students. Instead, considering how hard the students worked in class, she added more duck meat.
Even so, Zhao Jianhao finished all the duck meat and the broth with his friends, and was extremely happy.
In the end, even Wu Qi didn't want to admit it, but Zhao Jianhao's lunchbox did look delicious, even though she didn't get to eat a single bite!
Waaaaah!
When Zhao Jianhao got home in the afternoon, the first thing he said to his grandfather was, "Grandpa, the beer duck you ordered for me at noon was super delicious! My classmates are so envious of me!"
Grandpa Zhao was delighted to hear this from his grandson; "It's good that he likes it."
