Yan Keyi and Jiang Ning met on a rainy night. Abandoned and disdained by her parents in the first half of her life, after meeting Jiang Ning, she became the top star in the entertainment industry u...
Looking at the drizzling rain falling at the company entrance, Jiang Ning felt a little worried.
The weather is really unpredictable. It was sunny when I left home in the morning, but by the time I got off work in the evening, it was raining. Unfortunately, Jiang Ning didn't bring an umbrella when she went out. She thought about calling a delivery service, but working people find that troublesome. Jiang Ning figured her home wasn't far, so she simply took off her coat, put it over her head, and rushed out.
Fortunately, there weren't many people out and about on a rainy day. Apart from people like her who need to work overtime on weekends, there were probably not many pedestrians on the road, so Jiang Ning's reckless driving wouldn't cause any trouble.
"Waaaaah..."
As Jiang Ning ran through the alleyway of the neighboring community, she thought she heard someone sobbing. It was barely audible amidst the rain, but each sob was heartbreaking and somewhat frightening.
Jiang Ning originally didn't want to get involved, after all, news of people using such sounds to attract the attention of lone women and then drugging and trafficking them was not uncommon. Jiang Ning was, after all, a single woman, and she should prioritize her own safety.
But for some inexplicable reason, Jiang Ning couldn't control himself and walked into that alley.
The sound of high heels on the concrete floor, accompanied by splashes of water, was quite noticeable in the rainy night, but the girl deep in the alley did not stop sobbing because of these noises.
When Jiang Ning saw Yan Keyi, he saw a girl in a white dress with two small pigtails, trembling and crying like an animal's wail between her legs.
Her two little buns were broken by the raindrops, and even though she had her head down, Jiang Ning could easily imagine how adorable this little girl would have been.
"Little sister, what's wrong? Why aren't you home in this heavy rain? Why are you crying here all by yourself?"
When Jiang Ning spoke, even she was surprised. She was actually someone who could speak so gently?
She hadn't brought an umbrella herself, so she had to half-squat down and drape her coat over Yan Keyi's head to shield her from the rain. The wet coat wasn't very effective at blocking water, but it was better than the rain hitting her directly.
The rain above had lessened, and with that gentle voice, Yan Keyi finally raised her head.
A pair of crystal-clear eyes, with a slight red tinge at the corners and tears welling up in their sockets, Yan Keyi stared at him pitifully, making Jiang Ning feel very uncomfortable.
She considered herself to have spent several years navigating the complexities of life in the big city, witnessing the harsh realities of human nature, and was no longer the naive, overly compassionate girl she once was. Yet, she couldn't help but admit that she felt a pang of sympathy for this girl.
"Do you have anywhere to go right now? It's not good to stay here in the rain. Why don't you come to my place to take shelter from the rain?"
Seeing that Yan Keyi was staring at her without saying a word, and with the rain and cold wind blowing against her, even though it was spring, a chill still crept over her. Jiang Ning thought that if the child was willing, she could take her to her place to avoid the rain, and tomorrow, when she was off work, she could take the child to find her family.
Yan Keyi remained silent, but nodded slightly in agreement.
Having received permission, Jiang Ning first gently wiped Yan Keyi's eye corner with his fingertip, then stood up and extended his hand to Yan Keyi.
Let's go.
When Jiang Ning held the little hands in his own, he almost got cold. He wondered how long the little hands had been in the rain to be so cold.
Perhaps her legs had been curled up for too long and were a little numb, Yan Keyi stumbled when she was pulled up. Fortunately, Jiang Ning caught her in time, but Yan Keyi still fell into his arms.
Yan Keyi didn't realize how tall Jiang Ning was when she was squatting, but she did when she stood up.
And she smells so good.
"Thank you, sister."
Yan Keyi said softly.
But her voice was too soft, and the sound of the raindrops was quite loud, so Jiang Ning didn't hear her clearly.
Considering that Yan Keyi's legs had gone numb, Jiang Ning didn't walk too fast. She held Yan Keyi's hand with one hand and tried to cover their heads with her coat with the other to keep them from getting wet in the rain.
Fortunately, it wasn't too far from where she lived, and we arrived after walking for about ten minutes.
After entering the house, Jiang Ning told Yan Keyi to find a place to sit for a while. She hurriedly went to the wardrobe to find a clean change of clothes and a bath towel for Yan Keyi.
When Jiang Ning came out, he found Yan Keyi still standing awkwardly at the door without moving, which made him feel even more sorry for her.
"Let me wipe it for you first."
He took a large towel and placed it directly over Yan Keyi's head. With one hand wrapped around the bath towel and change of clothes prepared for Yan Keyi, he gently pushed Yan Keyi's back with the other hand and led her into the bathroom.
"The toiletries are all on the shelves. Just take what you need and use it yourself. The change of clothes and bath towels are mine. They might be a little big, so you can wear them for now. I'll take you to buy some new ones tomorrow. But don't worry, they're all new."
After confirming with Yan Keyi that she was alright, Jiang Ning closed the bathroom door. She was freezing cold from being in the rain for so long, so she needed to take a hot shower first.
After settling Yan Keyi in, Jiang Ning went back to her room, dried herself off, and changed into a set of dry pajamas.
While Yan Keyi was still taking a shower, Jiang Ning went to the kitchen to cook some ginger and brown sugar. When she finished showering, she should be able to drink a bowl of hot ginger and brown sugar to ward off the cold.
About forty-five minutes later, Yan Keyi came out of the bathroom.
"You're out. Have a cup of ginger and brown sugar juice to warm you up."
Hearing the noise, Jiang Ning brought Yan Keyi a bowl of ginger and brown sugar.
Yan Keyi doesn't actually like ginger tea, but since it was brewed for her by her sister, she obediently held it in her hand and sipped it.
It felt warm after drinking it, and even though I wasn't cold anymore after taking a shower, I still felt cozy.
"You sit here for a while, I'm going to take a shower, okay? There's more in the pot if you want more after you finish drinking."
Jiang Ning patted Yan Keyi's head and then pointed towards the kitchen.
Following the direction Jiang Ning pointed, Yan Keyi looked over and then obediently nodded to Jiang Ning.
Although I haven't heard her say a word since I met her, she is so well-behaved.
Jiang Ning was initially a little worried about the dangers of walking into that alley, but now she was quite glad that she had taken in such a child.
As I walked into the bathroom and looked at my fingers, the warmth from my freshly washed hair seemed to travel from Yan Keyi's hair to my hands.
Jiang Ning was shocked when she realized what she was thinking. But thinking of the little one outside, she quickly finished her shower and prepared to go out and settle her in.
