Qingying is a concubine-born daughter of the Grand General's府, yet she enjoys the favor usually reserved for a legitimate daughter. Her grandmother dotes on her, her father spoils her, her elde...
Just as Qingying reached the door of the side room, Yu Yue pushed the door open. As she stepped over the threshold, she suddenly heard a sound behind her, the sound of something breaking.
She turned her head and saw a sharp arrow, gleaming coldly, shooting straight toward her.
It was the first time she had ever drunk alcohol. Although it was just fruit wine and not enough to make her completely drunk, it still affected her movements and made her reactions sluggish. By the time she remembered to dodge, she only had time to move a little to the side before the arrow pierced her shoulder.
Then, a dark figure instantly appeared in front of her, blocking the next incoming arrow with a sword.
"Take her inside quickly," Ashu said coldly.
The incident happened so suddenly that Yu Yue and Tong Xia were so frightened that their faces turned pale. They hurriedly went to check on her injuries, and only after being reminded did they realize what had happened and quickly helped her to hide inside the house.
The sharp arrowhead pierced Qingying's shoulder deeply, staining her sleeves with blood. She lay on the ground, panting heavily, her brows furrowed in pain.
Tong Xia was so anxious that tears welled up in her eyes. She choked out, "Sister Yu Yue, what should we do?"
Yu Yue quickly walked to the door and quietly opened it a crack to look outside. She then walked back and said, "The commotion outside seems to have stopped. Go out and find the eldest young master immediately and ask him to fetch a doctor."
Tong Xia nodded hurriedly.
At this moment, Ashu pushed open the door and walked in. He came to Qingying's side, checked her injuries, and said, "One of you go find a doctor, and I will go and report to His Highness the Crown Prince immediately."
"Yes." Tong Xia wiped away her tears with her sleeve, lifted her skirt, and walked quickly outside.
Ashu glanced at Yu Yue and then said, "Stay here and keep an eye on her. Don't touch her wounds or go out easily."
Yu Yue nodded.
He then left as well.
Qingying had fainted from the pain. Yu Yue helped her onto the bed and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead with a handkerchief.
Meanwhile, Tong Xia searched everywhere but couldn't find Liu Chengfeng. The banquet was full of important people, and she was afraid of offending them, but she didn't dare to make a scene. So she had to return empty-handed.
On his way back in a hurry, he ran into Wei Dongchen, who was returning from changing clothes.
Seeing her anxious expression, the other person stopped her and asked, "Aren't you Er Yatou's maid? Why aren't you serving your mistress? What are you doing here in such a hurry?"
Upon seeing him, Tong Xia felt as if she had seen a savior and immediately knelt down. "Young Master, please save my young lady!"
"What's wrong with your daughter?!"
"She's injured, bleeding a lot, and I can't find the young master..."
"Save your nonsense for later!" She was interrupted before she could finish speaking, and then Wei Dongchen grabbed her by the back of her collar and ran towards the villa.
Tong Xia felt as if he was about to lift her up and fly away, swaying so hard she was dizzy and disoriented. When she came to her senses, they had already arrived at the door of another room.
Without saying a word, Wei Dongchen kicked open the door of the side room and rushed inside, soon pulling out an old man with a white beard.
The white-bearded old man struggled and shouted, "Medicine box! I forgot my medicine box!!"
Wei Dongchen shouted at Tong Xia, "Go and bring his medicine box."
"Yes, yes." Tong Xia didn't have time to pay attention to anything else. She lifted her skirt and strode into the house, returning a moment later with a medicine box.
Wei Dongchen had long since disappeared outside, so she had no choice but to quicken her pace and hurry back.
When Tong Xia rushed back, she saw Wei Dongchen and Wei Huaixu waiting outside. Before she could even greet them, she grabbed her medicine box and ran inside.
Inside the room, Qingying's clothes had been mostly removed by Yu Yue at the doctor's instruction, and a brocade quilt covered her body, revealing only her injured shoulder and a large area of fair skin on her neck.
The doctor had already examined her and, after getting the medicine kit, began treating her wounds.
Outside, Wei Huaixu's face was dark. He looked at Wei Dongchen and asked, "Where's Liu Chengfeng? Why didn't he come, but you did?"
"Why is Crown Prince so angry? I was very worried about Miss Liu's injury." Wei Dongchen blinked innocently. "Chengfeng is not here. He and I are close friends. It's not surprising that Tongxia came to me because she couldn't find him, is it?"
"Heh~ That's not surprising at all. I'm just asking you where Liu Chengfeng went?"
"Although we are like brothers, we are not really brothers. He has legs of his own, and he doesn't inform me of where he is going beforehand. I really don't know right now."
"Fine, really fine." Wei Huaixu snorted coldly and looked away.
Wei Dongchen knew he was angry at the moment, so she didn't take it to heart. She just reminded him, "Shouldn't you send someone to investigate the source of Miss Liu's assassination attempt first?"
"Why do I need to remind you? I already had arrangements made."
He awkwardly touched his nose and said nothing more. He felt that Wei Huaixu was like a firecracker, ready to ignite at any moment, and anyone who touched him would get burned, so he simply started to play dead.
Fortunately, not long after, the people Wei Huaixu sent out received news.
Two men in black brought back three corpses and placed them in front of Wei Huaixu. Ashu said, "We had just caught up with them and hadn't even had a chance to dislocate their jaws when they bit off poison and committed suicide. I examined their bodies and found the mark of the Brahma Temple."
The Brahma Palace is a place in the martial arts world that specializes in killing people. As long as the employer pays money for the life of a specific person, they will send out highly trained assassins to retrieve it. The assassins who complete the mission will receive a high reward, while those who fail will commit suicide before being captured, just like these three people.
Wei Huaixu glanced at it briefly and then ordered, "Bury it."
"Yes." They carried the body and retreated.
The Brahma Temple keeps its employers' information absolutely confidential. Once the assassin dies, the trail goes cold.
Wei Dongchen frowned deeply. "Someone actually paid a high price to kill Er Yatou? What powerful person has she offended recently?"
"I don't know either." Wei Huaixu glanced at him sideways and said, "She is my fiancée, and will be your sister-in-law in the future. Such an intimate address is probably inappropriate."
"The imperial edict hasn't been issued yet..." He had just muttered a sentence when he met Wei Huaixu's sharp gaze and immediately fell silent. Then he made a gaiter to seal his mouth and nodded with a smile.
Wei Huaixu was finally satisfied.
The two waited for a long time before the white-bearded old man finally came out. He bowed to them and said, "Miss Liu's injury has been treated. Fortunately, the arrow was not poisoned. Change the dressing frequently and rest more. She will gradually recover."
Wei Huaixu nodded, "Thank you for your hard work, Imperial Physician Liu."
"It's no trouble at all..." Imperial Physician Liu glanced at Wei Dongchen and said, "I hope that next time the young master comes to 'invite' me, he will be a little gentler. I almost died on the way here because of my own collar."
Wei Dongchen scratched the back of his head and chuckled twice, saying, "Haha... I was just trying to save people, Physician Liu, please don't take offense."
