Chapter 184 His Memories

A sinister voice rang out in the room, interrupting Qian Yue'e's trembling, incoherent voice, "So you've been cheating on me with so many cuckolding tales behind my back. Tell me, how can I, as a man and the head of the Xiao family, die in peace!"

Qian Yue'e trembled like a leaf in the autumn wind, kowtowing and begging for mercy. "Master, I really know I was wrong. For the sake of our many years of marriage, please give me another chance. I promise this is truly the last chance. From now until I die, I will never do anything to betray you again!"

"As for what women say..." the person beside the bed scoffed, "I've never believed them, whether we're living like before or like we are now!"

"Alive?" Qian Yue'e was startled by the two words in the man's words. She seemed to realize something, stopped kowtowing, and looked up at the man standing by the bed.

Upon seeing this, she was so frightened that she almost wet her pants on the spot.

"Master...Master!" she screamed, "You're not dead?!"

Xiao Qinghan frowned in displeasure. "What's wrong? Judging from your tone, I'm not dead, which disappoints you!"

Women are all the same; ever since he could remember the first woman who appeared in his life, he had never met a good woman.

No, he had met good women before, but that person... was his sister-in-law.

Qian Yue'e had been Xiao Qinghan's bedmate for many years, and if not 100%, she understood Xiao Qinghan at least 50%.

She knew very well how sinister and ruthless this man was. She had once witnessed Xiao Qinghan throw her trusted confidant into snake venom because of a single sentence.

He was a very strong man who, after being thrown into the pile of snakes, initially tried to struggle, but as more and more venomous snakes crawled onto him, he quickly gave up.

She still vividly remembers the last words that man shouted at Xiao Qinghan before he died.

"Xiao Qinghan, you bastard, you'll never have a good end! I curse you to die a horrible death!"

After the scene of the snake pile flashed before her eyes, Qian Yue'e trembled even more violently.

She was afraid; she was truly afraid.

"You're afraid of me!" Qian Yue'e was thinking about how to reverse what she had said earlier, at least to make Xiao Qinghan less angry, when a cold, almost cold hand appeared on her chin.

At first, she held her chin with her fingers, but later she started pinching it. Xiao Qinghan's grip was very strong, and it hurt Qian Yue'e a lot. Her eyes immediately turned red and tears welled up in her eyes.

"Master, I love you." Qian Yue'e mustered all her courage to look directly into Xiao Qinghan's eyes.

Xiao Qinghan stared intently at Qian Yue'e, and that gaze sent a chill down Qian Yue'e's spine. It was terrifying. Slowly, she realized something: Xiao Qinghan seemed to be looking at her, yet she didn't seem to be looking at her at all.

Or, to put it more accurately, Xiao Qinghan was so engrossed in his own thoughts that he couldn't extricate himself.

Qian Yue'e was tense and stunned, not daring to say a word, waiting for Xiao Qinghan to come to her senses.

As Qian Yue'e uttered "I love you," Xiao Qinghan couldn't help but drift into memories of the past.

Since he could remember, he had been locked in a room, never seeing sunlight, and his only room to move around was an inch around him. He wasn't exaggerating; it really was only an inch because his two feet were firmly chained.

Fearing he would starve, someone would bring him food every day, two meals a day, which were basically rice porridge with pickled vegetables.

It may sound ridiculous, but before he was eight years old, he didn't even know that there were foods in the world other than rice porridge and pickled vegetables.

When I was eight years old...

It was the first time he had ever stepped out of the small, dark room that had locked him up since he came into this world.

The police released him from the small dark room because the person who delivered his food was suddenly arrested by the police.

The sunlight that day was so intense it hurt his eyes so much that he couldn't open them for a long time. But he will remember that day's sunlight for the rest of his life.

The sunlight felt warm and comfortable on my skin.

The police took him to take a bath and get a haircut. I don't know if he had a bath when he was born, but this was the first time he could remember taking a bath.

After putting on clean new clothes, the police took him to see the person who had brought him food, who was also his mother.

Mother?

What a sacred title! Yet, when she appeared before him, she glared at him like he was an enemy, as if she wanted to kill him with her eyes.

His mother took advantage of the police's inattention, rushed up and grabbed his neck, very hard, clearly intending to strangle him to death.

The police quickly stopped her. A female officer thought he was frightened and wanted to take him out first, but he refused. At only eight years old, he had a maturity that was hard to match for his peers and asked to spend some time alone with his mother.

The police, of course, disagreed; were they joking?

If a murder occurred in the police station, it would be a disaster; none of them would be able to escape responsibility. Yet, he managed to dispel the police's concerns at such a young age.

This is what he said to the police: "Uncle Policeman, please don't worry, I'm only eight years old. I'm just starting to see this world. I can't bear to die!"

The police had probably never seen an eight-year-old child speak so eloquently, and they gave him the opportunity to be alone with the woman with red eyes.

The police had just left when the nearly insane woman rushed up again and grabbed his neck.

The woman thought the boy would struggle, after all, she wanted to kill him. In the end, she pinched the boy's face until it turned red, but the boy still did not beg for mercy.

Seeing that the boy would die if she held on a little longer, she suddenly let go.
