Chapter 84 The Decision Was Finally Made

After thanking Wang Cuihua, the "sweeping queen" of the police station, Xu Moran walked towards the police station gate. As soon as he reached the gate, he took out his phone, found Jiang Moli's number, and dialed it.

The phone rang for a long time before Jiang Moli's voice came through. It was unclear where she was; her voice was very low, almost like she was doing something wrong. "Ranran, you were looking for me?"

Xu Moran said somewhat irritably, "Why would I call you now if I wasn't looking for you?"

Jiang Moli said guiltily, "Ranran, I was wrong. What did you want to see me about?"

Ignoring her usual weakness, Xu Moran asked her directly, "Lily, where are you?"

Just as Jiang Moli was about to lie to Xu Moran, the pharmacy staff member who went to the warehouse to get the medicine was already behind the counter. There was only one counter in between, and the staff member's words were clearly transmitted to Xu Moran's ears on the other end of the phone.

All she heard was the shop assistant asking Jiang Moli, "Do you need pre-coital contraception or post-coital contraception?"

The questioning was so loud and so fast that Jiang Moli had no time to cover it up.

She was still feeling embarrassed when Xu Moran raised his voice on the other end of the phone and said, "Excuse me, could you please give me the emergency contraceptive pill? Thank you."

When the shop assistant heard this, she handed the emergency contraceptive pills to Jiang Moli and said casually, "Oh, you bought them for your friend. What's there to be embarrassed about? Besides, knowing how to protect yourself is a hundred times better than getting pregnant and then having an abortion."

Jiang Moli's already flushed face turned even redder. Although the shop assistant was a stranger, she was too embarrassed to explain that she had bought it for herself.

The shop assistant was about to explain how to use it to her, but Jiang Moli paid the money, lowered her head, and strode towards the pharmacy door as if she had done something wrong.

With a loud crash, she didn't notice the glass door of the pharmacy because she was walking quickly with her head down and didn't notice it.

The clerk came out from behind the counter. These days, there are so many people who stage accidents to extort money from pharmacies. She was afraid that this was another professional scammer who would try to extort money from the pharmacy by banging on the door. So she decided to go up and see what was going on, and also tell her that their store had surveillance cameras, so she shouldn't expect to succeed in extorting money.

Unexpectedly, just as she stepped out from behind the counter, the woman who had bumped into the door rubbed the spot she had hit and pushed open the door, running out.

The shop assistant stared in disbelief at Jiang Moli's retreating figure. It seemed she was a newbie who had just joined the world of staged accidents.

Jiang Moli hung up on Xu Moran right there in the pharmacy. After running a distance and looking back to make sure no one was following her, she took out her phone and called Xu Moran again.

Xu Moran answered the phone quickly; it seemed she had been waiting for Jiang Moli to call her.

"Lily." As soon as the call connected, Xu Moran said, "Be careful on your way back today. Zheng's mother suffered a lot at the police station, and Zheng Heping isn't doing much better."

Jiang Moli looked down at the small pill lying in her palm, a bitter feeling spreading through her heart, and a strong astringent taste filled her mouth. "Ranran, I don't want to go back to that home anymore. Tonight I'll take Zhenzhen to Xiao's house for the night, and tomorrow I'll rent a place near Zhenzhen's kindergarten."

Xu Moran was about to say that finding a suitable apartment takes time, but Jiang Moli added, "Ranran, don't worry, I've been looking at apartments for a long time, but I just hadn't decided to move out until now..."

She took a deep breath and said with determination, "I've made up my mind. This kind of family is not good for Zhenzhen's growth. I'd rather take her out to live. Also, she's already in the seedling class, so I can go out and find a job. Although I didn't finish college, I believe I won't let Zhenzhen suffer from hunger with me."

As Xu Moran listened to Jiang Moli's words, thinking about her weakness in front of Zheng Heping and her letting Zheng's mother bully her all these years, she suddenly thought of a saying: "Women are gentle, but become strong when they become mothers."

"If I have time tomorrow, I'll help you move," Xu Moran said to Jiang Moli with a smile.

Jiang Moli laughed on the other end of the phone, "Ranran, I packed and brought Zhenzhen's clothes a long time ago, and the key is in the foyer cabinet. There's nothing I can help you with, so you don't need to come over."

Xu Moran was still a little worried. "Call me anytime if there are any problems."

Jiang Moli gazed into the distance, her mood unexpectedly calm. She spoke softly to Xu Moran on the other end of the phone, "Ranran, thank you. It's so good to have you all these years."

Xu Moran couldn't stand her sentimental words and let out a "Huh?" but then laughed. She was happy for Jiang Moli, who, after so many years, finally had the courage to break free from the cage that had imprisoned her.

Jiang Moli had to rush to her friend's house to pick up Zhenzhen, while Xu Moran wanted to go home early to see if Xu Ye was home. Both of them had things to do, so they didn't chat any longer. After hanging up the phone, they went about their own business.

Jiang Moli hasn't found a job yet. The little savings she has are what Zheng Heping used to give her for household expenses. Zheng Heping didn't give much to begin with, and given that Old Mrs. Zheng is picky, no matter how much she tries to save her share, she can't save much.

She now has to support Zhenzhen on her own and needs to rent a place, so she has to be even more frugal. Instead of taking a taxi, she walked towards the subway station, which was a bit far away.

She hadn't gone far when she came to a traffic light. While waiting for the light to change, she remembered the white pill she was still clutching in her hand.

She looked at it, curled one corner of her lips into a self-deprecating sneer. The last time she went to the hospital with Zheng Heping, the doctor had clearly stated that she had damaged her body when she gave birth to Zhenzhen and could no longer get pregnant.
