Chapter 233 Blackmail

Li Ke dressed Xiao Guang in full-body protection: wrist guards, knee pads, small gloves, and a small helmet—a standard model with only protective functions. This alone made the little guy happy for a long time.

Xiao Guang pushed the windshield up and pulled it down to play with it, then excitedly asked, "Big brother, how come you have clothes and a hat that I can wear? Did you come here especially to pick me up?"

It was Li Ke who made Xiao Guang call her "Big Brother." After putting on the helmet, Li Ke's voice changed, and she casually replied, "No, I just happened to have collected some before, so I took it out for you to use."

Xiao Guang wasn't disappointed. In just two hours, she seemed to have become much more cheerful: "I feel so good in these clothes. They look so pretty. They're like they were made just for me."

Li Ke responded with "uh-huhs". Although Xiao Guang talked a bit more, he was still easy to deal with and didn't ask many questions. It was as if Li Ke's voice suddenly changed, and she could always take out what she needed from her bag. This little guy would at most glance at it.

If it's a question Li Ke doesn't want to ask or that's difficult to explain, she can simply be told not to ask or say anything more, and she'll immediately nod in agreement. Compared to the unruly children she's encountered before, this little one is much easier to manage.

The little guy sat in front of Li Ke and was strapped to Li Ke with a seatbelt. When the car drove out of the building, the sun had already set for a while, and the sky was getting a bit darker.

Following the route Xiao Guang gave her, Li Ke circled around the outer perimeter of the city. Only then did Li Ke realize that although Xiao Guang was only small, she had already explored most of the city. She knew very well how to bypass the residential area and safely search for what she needed on the outskirts.

Two hours later, it was completely dark, but Li Ke still hadn't made it out of the city. First, the route Xiao Guang pointed out was too roundabout, and second, the road conditions were not good. Sometimes he had to get out of the car and cross a bridge, and sometimes he might have to turn back and find a new route.

Just as I emerged from a side road and returned to the main road, I suddenly heard some noise in the distance, as if many people and vehicles were heading this way.

Li Ke retreated into the alley, turned off the engine, and asked Xiao Guang, "What's going on? Are there people living and working around here?"

Xiao Guang quickly shook his head: "No, I haven't seen anyone here for a long time, and I don't know where those people came from."

While listening to the commotion outside, Li Ke said to Xiao Guang, "No matter what happens later, you must not make a sound, or I will break your neck, understand?"

Xiao Guang quickly covered his mouth and nodded. Li Ke vaguely heard gunshots, but the sound was much farther away than the noise from the group of people she had just seen.

She backed the car further into the alley, found a house, drove the car in, and unbuckled the seatbelt that was tied to Xiaoguang.

“You stay here and behave yourself, watch our car and luggage. I’m going out to see what’s going on. Once everyone outside has left, I’ll come back and take you away. Don’t run around or be afraid. Take this knife to protect yourself.” Li Ke gave Xiao Guang a switchblade and showed her how to use it.

Xiao Guang carefully tried pushing it twice, then nodded to Li Ke, indicating that he knew how to use it.

Li Ke looked at her serious little face and wanted to laugh. He patted her head and said, "You should hide first. If it's not me who comes back, don't come out. It doesn't matter if the car is lost. I will find it. Just take care of yourself."

Xiao Guang nodded obediently again. Li Ke discovered a hidden compartment in the roof. After checking that there was no danger inside, he lifted Xiao Guang up and let her climb inside to hide.

When Li Ke returned to the main road to observe the situation, the lead vehicle of the convoy was slowly driving through a blocked section of road. The blocked section was covered with temporary wooden planks that they had set up. Behind them, the gunfire intensified.

Li Ke climbed onto the roof and hid by the railing, using binoculars to observe the situation in the distance. Behind the convoy, there seemed to be a considerable number of motorcycles, apparently protecting the convoy ahead as it passed through the blocked road.

After the convoy successfully crossed the bridge, the motorcycle convoy behind them quickly crossed the broken section of road and then removed the wooden plank bridge cable. Their movements were very skillful, and it seemed that they did this kind of thing often.

Another convoy approached from behind, and the gunfire intensified, indicating that their pursuers had caught up.

The wooden stakes stuck in the middle of the broken road were also pulled out, and the people below the broken road climbed back onto the road surface using ropes. The two opposing sides were separated by a broken road more than two meters long.

The convoy that had crossed the bridge quickly dispersed, hiding in nearby alleys or houses, and then began to lay out their positions, opening fire on the pursuing enemy.

The people who caught up later tried to speed across the gap from the side path, where the gap was smaller and it wouldn't be too difficult for the motorcycles to jump over it.

But those who had successfully reached the other side of the road were no pushovers either. Their defense was also very solid. They immediately threw two bombs in that direction, and they also decisively and accurately finished off any stragglers that had already flown over.

The two sides exchanged fire for more than ten minutes. When the people behind realized that the situation was very unfavorable for them, they also took cover and retreated. The gunfire gradually subsided.

However, it was clear that the two sides were now at an impasse. Li Ke sat on the roof, looking down at the people resting against the wall or in their cars. It seemed that these people would not leave anytime soon, and she could not leave either, at least not on the road in front of her.

The road was quiet for a short while before there was movement in the distance again. Soon after, another long convoy of cars came along, but this time they were moving much slower.
