Li Ke noticed that the people in charge were all wearing military uniforms, while the others who participated in the labor were ordinary people from the lower classes.
She thought about it for a moment and figured that the construction project in front of her was probably intended by the military to accommodate people or forces who had come to the safe zone but lacked the capital to participate in the bidding.
Li Ke led the convoy forward without stopping. It would take another day and a half to reach the first outpost in the safe zone. To confirm this guess, they would naturally find out when they returned.
The next afternoon, Li Ke led the convoy to the checkpoint. After showing their entry and exit permits, they also submitted a list of names and information of the people who had entered.
After the sentries completed their checks, Li Ke and his group set off again, by which time it was already dark.
Li Ke had been traveling back and forth for over a month. During this time, some changes had occurred within the safe zone. The most obvious change was that the main roads had been repaired. Although they couldn't compare to the old highways, they were much smoother and easier to travel on than a month ago.
Construction projects are underway one after another along the road, it seems everyone is rushing to meet deadlines.
In the latter half of the night, Li Ke and her group finally entered the Eighth District's base area. When reporting to the sentry post, she felt that the registrar at the post seemed to be paying more attention to them than not.
After resting for a few hours, Li Ke received a statistical list from Niu Dazhuang the next morning. After hearing his complaints, Li Ke finally understood what was going on.
"You said the captain's name is Xiao Yi?" Li Ke asked, holding the list, somewhat surprised but not entirely surprised.
Niu Dazhuang nodded: "Yes, I specifically inquired about him. This person is quite a formidable figure. I heard that he spent half a year on the verge of death a few years ago, and then there was no news of him. Everyone thought he was dead, but now he has reappeared in public. Young brother, you specifically asked him if he knew him?"
Ignoring Niu Dazhuang's inquisitive look, Li Ke glanced at the list again before asking, "What are the results of the investigation? Are these people the masterminds behind it all?"
