Chapter 298 Going Back

Among these two thousand-plus blood slaves, there were over two hundred soldiers mixed in. In addition, the people who escorted them here had long been replaced by Chinese soldiers.

After the struggle ended, Li Ke quickly took off a prisoner's coat, then found a cabin on the ship and changed his clothes and attire.

After making himself look much rougher, Li Ke, wearing a mask, loudly asked among the real blood slave hostages if there were any people from the Qiushan base.

Although these blood slaves were in poor spirits, they all looked relatively healthy, so Zhou Heng, who was crippled in both legs, was definitely not among them.

Li Ke asked several times before a dozen or so people raised their hands in response, indicating that they were from the Qiushan base.

After gathering these people together, Li Ke received some news about the missing persons. The situation was not good; their people had been scattered.

Although Zhou Heng was disabled, once the other party learned that he was the leader, they locked him up instead of throwing him with other useless people to die of thirst and hunger.

Jin Ce and his team were among the first to be taken away, but where they were taken and what they were done with them remained a mystery.

One of the more composed people spoke up: "The people who arrested us seem to have known about Mr. Jin and his group all along. They demanded that Mr. Jin and his group step forward, or they would kill them. Mr. Jin didn't want others to sacrifice for him, so he stepped forward voluntarily. When Chairman Zhou came out to negotiate with them, he was also arrested. After that, they all disappeared. We were also divided up by them, and now we are scattered in all directions."

Someone rummaged through the ship and brought food down to share with everyone. Li Ke told them to eat something first, and then got up to find Yan Bo and the others.

Yan Bo was guarding the prisoners with his teammates when Li Ke approached him: "What's your next operation? Who's in charge of this operation? Can I meet them?"

Yan Bo: "Our orders are to wait where we are. As for the hostages, we will arrange for them to be escorted away. Commander Li, what we mean is that you should also leave with the hostages. We will handle the rest."

Li Ke insisted, "An important figure from our base has been arrested and his whereabouts are unknown. I would like to inquire about the relevant circumstances."

Yan Bo looked troubled: "Base Commander Li, you know I'm just a lowly soldier, and my position as squad leader is only temporary. I really have no choice."

Li Ke changed the subject and asked, "Have other places been taken over as well? Has anyone gone up to the island where we were being held?"

Yan Bo kept his mouth shut and didn't say anything. Li Ke stared at him for a while and said, "If you don't say anything, then it means you have something to say. I'm going back to ask that big leader about the situation."

After saying that, Li Ke turned to leave, but Yan Bo quickly grabbed her: "We don't know what the situation is there yet. I can't let you go."

Li Ke grabbed his arm and threw him over her shoulder: "You can't stop me, and I won't ruin things."

Yan Bo got up from the ground and realized that Li Ke had nothing, the leaders here wouldn't let her leave, and the road was difficult to walk on, so he didn't try to stop her anymore.

Li Ke didn't get much information from Yan Bo, so she went to the command center. She originally wanted Yan Bo to help her get an introduction, but she gave up when she saw that he seemed a little embarrassed.

The command post leader was interrogating several captains and distinguished guests. Li Ke was stopped by soldiers outside the cabin and was not allowed to join the fray.

Seeing that everyone inside was a complete stranger, Li Ke realized that it would be much harder to talk to people without any prior acquaintance. After thinking about it, Li Ke decided to set off on her own.

Just as she disembarked and was about to find an inconspicuous place to leave alone, someone blocked Li Ke's way—it was the woman who had been staring at her.

"My name is Tian Yingmei. I just heard them say that you are a base commander. I would like to ask you some questions," the woman said nervously.

Li Ke had a very good impression of her, and she said in a calm tone, "Go ahead and ask, but please be quick, I have other things to do."

Tian Yingmei had originally intended to ask questions one by one, but upon hearing Li Ke's words, she blurted them all out at once: "Are there many female base commanders in the safe zone? What's the environment like? I want to ask if it's safe for women there? How's your base? Are you still hiring? If I go in, can I find work? I don't want to get married, nor do I want to rely on any man."

Li Ke sized up Tian Yingmei. This woman must have had a good life before, and Ruan Chun had said that the girls she worked with were all clean.

If that's the case, then Tian Yingmei must have never been bullied. Li Ke had tested her skills; she was a very weak and powerless woman.

However, Tian Yingmei was exceptionally beautiful. In this world, she was able to protect herself, either because she had a very good family background and was always protected, or because she was extremely intelligent and could protect herself.

Li Ke: "There are quite a few female base commanders, but relatively speaking, not many. My gender outside is male. I don't know about the security situation, but if you want to join my base, as long as you are hardworking and reliable, you won't be bullied. However, I have to leave now. If you want to be safer on your journey, you can stick close to Yan Bo or the military team. They are very disciplined in their conduct."

Upon hearing Li Ke's words, Tian Yingmei only asked, "When are you coming back?"

Li Ke wasn't really sure. She thought for a moment and said, "If you want to join the Qiushan base, you can have someone take you to Song Xian. Just say that Li Jia asked you to join. Li Jia is my name."

Tian Yingmei thanked him, and seeing that she had no other questions, Li Ke turned around and tried to leave through the path where the boat was moored.
