Chapter 397 Promise

Cage pressed one of the implantation points and saw Li Ke suddenly reach out and grab his right elbow, his face showing a look of suppressed discomfort. This confirmed to him that Li Ke had been infected.

Cage and his men entered uninvited. Seeing that Chen Jiaojiao and Chen Zhizhi were both with their own people, Li Ke retreated repeatedly, subconsciously finding a safe distance for herself and trying to stay away from Li Ke as much as possible.

Mo Bao'er saw that the people opposite Cage were all carrying cylindrical weapons, about half the thickness of an arm, with the openings immediately pointed at Li Ke.

She instinctively grabbed Li Ke's hand, frowned, and asked, "What do you mean by this?"

Seeing Mo Bao'er's actions, Cage smiled again. He was not blinded by victory and still maintained basic politeness as he said to Li Ke, "Miss Li Ke, you now have five micro-robots inside you. I always respect ladies. If you don't want any more casualties, please cooperate with us and follow us."

Cage's men spread out in an umbrella shape, forming a semi-encirclement around Li Ke. Mo Bao'er wondered when Li Ke had been affected. Her previous conversation flashed through her mind, and when she saw her hand clasped with Li Ke's, she immediately withdrew it.

"I don't know...!" Mo Bao'er looked at Li Ke helplessly, then glared at her own hand with hatred, and cursed at Cage, "You bunch of despicable and shameless bastards!"

Cage smiled: "You're a pleasant surprise."

Mo Bao'er was both angry and helpless. She looked at Li Ke, who was frowning and silent, and said, "Sister, how are you? It's my fault that you're in trouble!"

Seeing Mo Bao'er's anger, remorse, and impending tears, Li Ke simply said, "Don't cry. I don't like it when people cry in front of me."

Mo Bao'er wiped away her tears. Chen Jiaojiao leaned close to the front door and saw soldiers standing guard outside. She turned the doorknob, wanting to run out with her mother first.

Li Zhenzhen watched Chen Jiaojiao's actions with a complicated expression. She had already guessed that Li Ke would fall for the trap, and that Chen Jiaojiao must have played a trick on her. She really thought that this girl was asking for trouble, but Li Ke seemed to be at a disadvantage again. She could only watch and let herself go with the flow for the time being.

Chen Zhizhi and He Ru ran to Chen Jiaojiao's side, intending to leave this troublesome place with them. Cage's soldiers immediately filled in, running to the empty space left by Chen Zhizhi and He Ru, and tightening the encirclement.

Mo Bao'er naturally saw what these people were doing. Thinking of Chen Zhizhi and Chen Jiaojiao, who had previously been in contact with Li Ke, she asked with immense resentment and disappointment, "Why? Don't you know that this will block our path to survival? You bunch of idiots!"

Unable to open the door, Chen Jiaojiao grew increasingly anxious and yelled at Cage, "You promised me that once you made contact with her, you would release me and my mother, and ensure we would have no worries about food and clothing in the future. Why won't you let us out now?"

Cage's gaze never left Li Ke in the center. Although Li Ke was silent, her aura had not diminished much. Cage had just activated two more micro-robots to weaken her, but the person who should have been in so much pain that she fainted was still sitting steadily.

Cage knew all too well the pain that a micro-robot could cause when it invaded the main nervous system, but this was clearly an anomaly in Li Ke's case.

He couldn't be sure if Li Ke was too strong or if she was bluffing, but in any case, he didn't dare to make any rash moves until he was certain that the other party had completely lost the ability to act.

Cage stared at Li Ke and replied to Chen Jiaojiao, "Miss Li Ke's condition is unclear. I cannot confirm whether your mission was successful, so you cannot leave here for the time being."

Keeping these useless hostages here might be a way to wear down Li Ke's last bit of strength, Cage thought to himself.

He Ru, who was originally snuggling with Chen Zhizhi, only belatedly realized what was going on after hearing Chen Jiaojiao and Kaiqi's conversation. She immediately distanced herself from Chen Zhizhi and asked incredulously, "You were also involved in this conspiracy and murdered Li Ke?"

She had been following Chen Zhizhi around, acting in a daze, not knowing what was going on with Chen Zhizhi's sudden actions.

But she had been hanging out with Chen Zhizhi for a long time recently, so she subconsciously followed her actions without thinking too much about it. Only now did she realize the reason.

Even though she herself wasn't very smart, she still thought Chen Zhizhi and Chen Jiaojiao's behavior was incredibly stupid, which she found disgusting and unacceptable.

When Chen Zhizhi heard He Ru's questioning, she defended herself with red eyes: "They promised me that as long as I did this, they would reunite me with Rui'er and even arrange rehabilitation surgery for my Rui'er."

Li Ke caught Dr. Cheng. I begged her repeatedly, but she wouldn't give me any response. I had no choice; she forced me to do it.

He Ru, however, held firm to her convictions: "Even if she doesn't respond, she hasn't hurt us or abandoned us in our time of need! And yet you choose to believe those white devils' empty promises. Look at them now, do you think they'll keep their word?"

Chen Zhizhi was also in a state of confusion as she listened to He Ru's words. She turned her gaze to Cage, who calmly replied, "I have no reason to lie to a few useless people like you. Besides, your son's surgery is not a major operation for our research lab at all."

"As long as Li Ke is completely incapacitated and falls into our hands, we will fulfill all our promises to you."

Chen Zhizhi was so conflicted and distressed that she had a headache. After hearing Kaiqi's reply, she said to He Ru, "I've already done it, there's no going back. Aunt He, please help me."

He Ru cautiously took a step back, frowning in confusion: "What do you mean? How can I help you?"

Chen Jiaojiao then looked at her mother, Li Zhenzhen: "Mom, Li Ke must be very weak right now. You go and hold her, and I'll go too. Big sister, let's restrain her together and help Kaiqi take Li Ke down."

Li Zhenzhen withdrew her hand, expressing her refusal through her actions. Li Ke's current situation was hard to predict, and Li Zhenzhen did not want to make a choice that might leave her with no way back until the very last moment.

Cage was already getting anxious about the stalemate. He had even activated the robot that was scanning Li Ke's brain, but the other party still kept his eyes open and showed no sign of falling down, which made Cage even more uncertain.

The hostages' argument at this moment gave him an unexpected surprise. He immediately promised them, "As long as you help me successfully capture Li Ke, I promise you all that I will ensure you live a life of wealth, comfort, health, and happiness."

Mo Bao'er had been keeping an eye on Li Ke's situation, but wisely refrained from asking any further questions, fearing it might actually jeopardize Li Ke's safety.

Upon seeing Chen Jiaojiao and Chen Zhizhi by the door, they were eager to make their move after hearing Kaiqi's reply. She immediately stood up and blocked their way.

Mo Bao'er shouted, "How could you be so despicable? What's the big deal about death? Just because you're afraid of dying, you're willing to betray your own family like this?"
