Chapter 12 Chapter 12
After physical education class, Wen Shuo returned to the classroom and saw Ren Li lying in front of the table.
She buried her whole face in her arms, one hand tightly covering her stomach, her body inexplicably tense, and it was obvious that she was in some discomfort.
At that moment, Wen Shuo seemed to understand everything.
As soon as Wen Shuo sat down, he saw Zhang Xintong rushing in from the front door.
She took out a box of medicine from her pocket, broke off a pill and handed it to Ren Li: "I got some medicine from the dormitory, take one, you will feel much better.
Ren Li raised her head from her arms with great effort. Her face was already pale, and now it looked even more sickly pale. She pursed her lips and seemed to have no strength in her body. She just glanced at Zhang Xintong and then lay back on the table.
Zhang Xintong took Ren Li's water cup and tested the water temperature. Fortunately, it wasn't too cold. She helped Ren Li up again and watched her take the medicine and drink some water. Ren Li managed to say thank you and lay back down.
The bell rang. Wen Shuo silently paid attention to Ren Li's situation throughout the whole class. She was hunched over like a shrimp, and then her body gradually stretched out. When the get out of class was about to end, she seemed to finally come alive again, and she was able to support her chin with one hand and listen to the class attentively.
Wen Shuo couldn't help but feel that girls are really troublesome and magical creatures.
It's troublesome, but magical.
After school at noon, Ren Li had gotten much better. Zhou Qi came over and asked as usual, "Boss, let's go out for dinner?"
Wen Shuo: "I have something else to do today, you go first."
Zhou Qi: "Ah, alright then." He turned to look at Zhang Xintong, "Do you want to go eat together?"
Zhang Xintong was talking to Ren Li, and after hearing this, he was obviously hesitant. Ren Li quickly said, "Xintong, I'm much better now. Go have dinner with Zhou Qi."
Zhang Xintong: "Do you want me to bring you food?"
Ren Li nodded: "Yes."
Zhang Xintong: "Okay, if you want to eat something later, just text me on your phone and I'll bring it back for you."
Everyone went to eat, and in the blink of an eye, she and Wen Shuo were the only ones left in the classroom.
Only then did Ren Li feel the subtle atmosphere around her.
Wen Shuo sat a few feet away from him, his phone propped up on the table, headphones on, watching an NBA game. He sat there quietly, yet he gave off an invisible sense of pressure.
In order to find something to do, Ren Li sorted out the stationery on the desk, and then she didn't know what to do. She reached into her schoolbag, wanting to find a literary magazine to read, and ended up touching the pink star that Wen Shuo had given her.
The outstretched hand subconsciously retracted, and Ren Li silently put the schoolbag back to its original place.
Wen Shuo looked at the ball absentmindedly, and finally seemed unable to bear it any longer, so he took off his headphones and pressed the pause button.
He tilted his head and saw Ren Li sitting at the table, writing or drawing something in a notebook with her head down, her expression focused and serious. Perhaps Wen Shuo's gaze was too blatant, Ren Li also noticed his burning gaze and raised her head for a moment.
Their eyes met in the air, and to Wen Shuo's surprise, Ren Li did not hide this time.
"Is there something wrong?" Ren Li asked.
In my impression, Ren Li always spoke softly and in a gentle voice. But today, she was completely different and showed a rare "hardness".
Wen Shuo raised an eyebrow, leaned back, and finally returned to his usual bad nature: "Can't I just look at you if there's nothing wrong?"
Ren Li: “…”
Her cheeks suddenly turned hot. Thinking of Wen Shuo's attitude towards her in the morning, Ren Lina's originally panicked heart suddenly calmed down.
"Actually, you don't need to worry about me." She replied seriously, "The monthly exam is coming soon. I heard from Xintong that everyone will be re-ranked after each monthly exam. I won't be here forever, so I'll have to trouble you to be patient for a while."
Wen Shuo originally thought that he should feel relieved after hearing these words, but now, his irritable mood has not lessened at all, but has become even worse.
He was not as happy as he had imagined.
Wen Shuo felt the same way after hearing Ren Li's "thank you" in the morning.
In the morning, he had already looked at the math test paper that Ren Li handed him. Although he only glanced at it quickly, Wen Shuo concluded that Ren Li had not even looked at the answers he sent over the weekend.
Perhaps in Ren Li's eyes, his efforts were completely useless. Yet, he had actually stayed up until two in the morning for this seemingly insignificant "little thing" in Ren Li's eyes.
Wen Shuo spent the entire morning in a state of mixed emotions, unsure how to process them or express them. That's why he thought of going to Lao He. He had originally thought that Ren Li's appearance had upset his equilibrium, that he wasn't used to having a girl sitting next to him. But now, that didn't seem to be the case.
Wen Shuo regrets it now.
But no matter what, he has to solve the current problem first.
"Didn't you read the answer I gave you over the weekend?" Wen Shuo asked.
Ren Li looked confused: "What answer?"
Wen Shuo thought, oh, as expected.
He continued to coax her: "I stayed up until two o'clock to write down the answer for you. Didn't you read it?"
Ren Li: ...
She really didn't look.
Wen Shuo was angry about this, Ren Li thought, but did he really stay up until two in the morning just to write the answer?
On Sunday, after getting up, Ren Li did see the photos Wen Shuo had sent her. Lin Yuan called her right after she finished reading them, so she quickly forgot about them. Who would have thought that Wen Shuo would still remember them?
But it was indeed her fault in this matter.
Ren Li is feeling a little complicated now.
"Sorry, I think I really forgot."
"I take back what I said to Lao He just now," Wen Shuo replied. "I didn't mean to target you. I was just in a bad mood this morning, so I went to talk to Lao He. If you're angry about this, I apologize."
After listening to Wen Shuo's "explanation", Ren Li's mood didn't seem so bad anymore.
"We can talk about changing seats later. Just treat everything that happened today as a boy's boring self-esteem."
Wen Shuo put away his phone, stood up, and hesitated to speak. "From now on, you don't have to say thank you so much."
Ren Li looked up at Wen Shuo: "Why."
Wen Shuo: “No reason.”
She stopped asking questions, and Wen Shuo stopped talking and turned and walked out of the classroom.
Her stomach was still aching, and Ren Li lay on the table with her eyes closed to rest. She finally fell asleep. She didn't know how long she slept, but she vaguely heard someone ask:
"Lili? Why don't you get up and eat something?"
Ren Li opened her eyes and saw Zhang Xintong holding a box lunch with a worried look on his face. "How is it? Are you still feeling uncomfortable?"
Ren Li nodded: "Yeah, this painkiller is really amazing. I'm fine, just a little sleepy."
"Is that so?" Zhang Xintong seemed to have discovered something and picked up a paper bag from the table. "Lili, go get the takeout. I was just outside. I should have helped you get it earlier."
Takeaway? Ren Li had no idea what Zhang Xintong was talking about, but out of curiosity, she opened the paper bag.
Inside was a cup of "ginger, jujube and brown sugar water," the glass bottle looking expensive. It came from a long-established sugar water shop in the city, and the bottle was still hot.
At the bottom of the bag, there was a yellow label with familiar handwriting: just two words: "Sorry."
Ren Li seemed to know who had bought it for her. She subconsciously hid the note in her hand and pretended to be nonchalant, changing the subject: "I'm fine. Where's Zhou Qi?"
Zhang Xintong unconsciously glanced outside the door. "On my way back, I ran into Wen Shuo. Zhou Qi immediately followed him. They're probably playing basketball again now."
"Oh." Ren Li didn't say anything else, but she still drank the cup of brown sugar water before Wen Shuo came back.
