Chapter 9 Invasion - Ticket

Arriving at the big tree, Xu Anran picked up the glowing object, which was a piece of cardboard. The light disappeared after she held it in her hand. Xu Anran put the object into her spatial storage, intending to leave first and examine it more closely in the car.

She carefully moved through the woods, not disturbing the monster not far away. Back in the car, Xu Anran took out the item from her spatial storage. It was a completely white train ticket with black lettering that read "Train A33 from C4183 to K69," followed by "Primary Passenger." The reverse side of the ticket read:

1. This ticket will appear when a global catastrophe occurs. The person who obtains the ticket can become a passenger and board the train at the designated time to leave this world for the next planet.

2. Tickets will be issued at random locations. People without tickets cannot board the train. If a ticket is lost, the passenger's identity will be erased. Please keep your ticket safe.

3. This train will depart within one year of the disaster. The departure time is uncertain and will be based on the countdown on your ticket. Please enter the waiting hall with your ticket when there are 24 hours left on the countdown. If you have not entered the waiting hall and boarded the train when the countdown reaches zero, your ticket will be invalid and you will have to wait for the next train, the departure time of which is uncertain.

Have a pleasant trip!

The countdown in the bottom right corner shows 736 hours left, or about a month. So this is the ticket those people in my dream were looking for, and they were the passengers. Now that I have a ticket, I should also be considered a passenger. I wonder what the future holds for this world. I wasn't originally from this world, so I might as well go to the next world and see what it's like. If I meet any experienced passengers, I can ask them for advice. However, I need to keep the fact that I have a ticket a secret. There should be quite a few passengers still searching for tickets.

We need to leave here first and head to the shelter, then go to the community to join those people and walk with them.

Taking advantage of the darkness, Xu Anran did not rest and drove directly to the residential area. Before entering the residential area, Xu Anran put everything in the car into her spatial storage, leaving only a box of bread and a case of mineral water.

Upon arriving at the entrance of the residential area, the car was stopped. Soldiers at the gate, weapons in hand, approached Xu Anran and led her to the security office. Inside, a staff member used a knife to cut Xu Anran's arm. The wound was small, and after seeing the bleeding, the staff member cleaned it with iodine and applied a band-aid. Then, they took out a notebook and asked Xu Anran for her name, age, experience, skills, and supplies. Xu Anran answered all the questions, saying that her name was Xu Anran, she was 18 years old, she could drive, she had a box of bread and a case of water, and she was on a motorhome trip to relax when she discovered the monster and fled here.

Then, Xu Anran was told that she had to hand over half of the supplies. She seemed very conflicted. After hesitating for a while, she reluctantly nodded in agreement. Two soldiers followed her to the vehicle. One inspected the vehicle while the other counted the supplies. After the inspection, they took half of the bread and half of the water from Xu Anran's vehicle, saluted her, thanked her for her cooperation, and left.

Xu Anran then started the car and entered the residential area, parking in the small square in the middle of the area as instructed by the staff.

After parking the car, another staff member came over. She was a girl in her twenties. She walked up to Xu Anran with a notebook and noticed that Xu Anran was alone. She told her that housing was tight and that several people were sharing a room. Moreover, their shelter was scheduled to be relocated in a couple of days. She suggested that she could temporarily move into a house shared by two families and share a room with two of the girls.

After hearing this, Xu Anran took out a large piece of chocolate and stuffed it into the girl's hand, saying, "Miss, as you can see, I came in a motorhome. How about this, don't bother arranging any accommodations for me. I can just stay in my own motorhome, which will save you the trouble. When it's time to leave, I can just drive along with the rest of the group." The girl's expressionless face broke into a smile after receiving the chocolate. She hadn't eaten chocolate in a long time, and she thought Xu Anran's suggestion made sense. It would save her trouble, and she felt Xu Anran was a nice and understanding person. So she nodded and reminded her, "Okay, we're moving to Pengcheng in a couple of days, forming a convoy. Since you're traveling alone, your vehicle might be requisitioned to carry people. You'd better find two or three people to share it with; you don't know what kind of people will be on temporary assignments."

Xu Anran said, "What should we do? I don't know anyone here." The girl said, "You look like a student. Why don't you see if there are any of your classmates here? What school do you go to?" "I'm from Experimental No. 1 High School. Do you see any students from our school here?" The girl flipped through her notebook and said, "There are a few from Experimental No. 1 High School. Do you know one named Li Xue?" "Is she a senior?" "She's 18 years old, so she should be a senior." "Great! We should know each other. Where does she live?" "She lives in Room 501, Unit 1, Building 6. She came with her grandfather. They live with two other families." "That's great. I'll go find her in a bit and see if we can team up."

Then, the girl said somewhat shyly, "There are three of you in total, and your car looks quite big. We might have to squeeze more people into it, making it five if we add two more. We shouldn't have to squeeze anyone else into your car when we leave." Xu Anran nodded, waiting for the girl to continue. "Here's the thing," the girl continued, "My boyfriend and I are both students at Green River University. Our school is very close to the military region, so we joined the shelter relatively early. Now we're both staff members here. I'm responsible for registration and arranging check-ins. My boyfriend is a mechanical engineering major, responsible for logistics, vehicle repair, and weapon modification. We don't really want to travel with the military vehicles; we'd like to ride in your car. We won't work for free; if we're in your car, we can be treated like staff members, driving in the middle, which is safer and less dangerous. What do you think?"

Xu Anran thought this was fine; it was safer to walk in the middle, and with five people on board, it wouldn't be crowded, much better than having random people crammed in. Xu Anran had met the class monitor's grandfather before; he was a kind old man and a traditional Chinese medicine doctor—a nice person. This girl seemed alright too. Xu Anran was still a little puzzled: "Miss, I just arrived today, why do you want to come with me?" The girl smiled helplessly and said, "Actually, I've been looking for a suitable vehicle for the past two days, but I haven't found one yet. I wanted to try it out since I met you today. I really don't want to travel with a big vehicle. Don't worry, my boyfriend and I aren't fussy people; we just need a place." Xu Anran thought for a moment and nodded in agreement: "Okay, let's go together then."
