Chapter 13 Bedwetting

Time flies, and heavy snow is falling from the sky. It is the end of the fifteenth year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign.

Inside the Qianqing Palace, Emperor Kangxi looked at the large expanse of smooth, bright glass and was overjoyed to find that it had actually been successfully made.

Looking at the detailed records in his hand, Kangxi patted the table and said, "Good, good!" With glass, many things became more convenient, and most importantly, we no longer had to buy things from neighboring countries at high prices.

"Your Majesty, the glass breakthrough has been completed. The cost has been reduced due to increased mass production and reduced waste. In addition, cement has been successfully developed. I have tested it and it is incredibly hard. I think it will be very effective in reinforcing city walls and constructing waterways," Gao Shiqi said excitedly.

Every year, building river channels to prevent dike breaches was a major undertaking for the imperial court. Unexpectedly, the cement that the emperor obtained from who-knows-where had such an effect.

With this, at least we won't have to build it every year; we'll only need to maintain it. That would save so much manpower and resources every year.

Emperor Kangxi also realized that this was truly a good thing for the country and its people.

And most importantly, if glass and cement were successful, then the other things in the book should also be successful.

Thinking of this, Kangxi instructed Liang Jiugong to convey his message to Nalan Mingzhu and the others: "Why has so much time passed? His potatoes, corn, and sweet potatoes still haven't been found."

The ministers, upon receiving the imperial decree, were speechless.

They were anxious too. If any of them found it, it would be a historic achievement, but they just couldn't find it.

Emperor Kangxi was pleased, but he did not forget Mingxiu, who had presented the book.

In the Qianqing Palace

Outside, snow was falling heavily, but inside, it was warm and cozy.

When Mingxiu heard that the Emperor had summoned her, she rushed over. As soon as she entered the Imperial Study, she saw the pile of glass next to her. For a moment, she was overjoyed. She was so excited that she finally had glass to use.

"This humble servant greets Your Majesty."

"Heseri Mingxiu, the book you presented earlier was very useful. I'm sure you've seen it. This is the glass made according to the book. Is there anything you wish to reward me with?"

"Really? Your Majesty, is this really from that book?" Mingxiu was very excited, but she still had to maintain her composure. She had to remember that she couldn't read English and didn't know what was in it.

"Yes, so what reward do you want?" Kangxi looked at the surprised woman below with a smile.

“Your Majesty, this servant has no reward I desire, but I have a younger brother who is a few years younger than me. If Your Majesty wishes to bestow a reward upon him, perhaps it would be better to give it to him,” Mingxiu said as she knelt down, unsure of how the Emperor would perceive her words.

"Oh, your younger brother, not your parents?" Kangxi glanced at Mingxiu meaningfully upon hearing this.

"As Your Majesty said, I am naturally concerned about my father, but my younger brother is still young, and I am afraid he will be bullied, so I thought I would take extra care of him."

"Alright, I understand. You may leave now." Kangxi waved his hand. He had already investigated Mingxiu's background before she went to take care of the Crown Prince, so he naturally knew that her stepmother had not treated her and her siblings very well. It seemed that he would have to think about it carefully.

After that day, Mingxiu stopped paying attention to the matter. She knew that the Emperor would not mistreat her and that he would make good arrangements for her brother.

Sure enough, not long after, Mingxiu received news from her family that because of her merit in offering the prescription, her father, Hesheliniman, was promoted to the rank of fourth-grade official, and her younger brother, Heshelijiahui, was admitted to the Imperial Academy.

When the imperial edict was received, the whole family was in an uproar.

His father was simply overjoyed; the girl was quite capable, having accomplished such a great feat.

Heshelijiahun burst into tears. He had been worried ever since his sister entered the palace, but he knew nothing about the palace unless his father inquired about it. It was only later, when his sister sent a message, that he learned she was serving the Crown Prince and doing well, which put his mind at ease.

Unexpectedly, his sister had performed a great service and even prayed for his favor. The young boy was not very good at controlling his emotions, but he knew that this favor was specially prayed for by his sister. In this way, Yehenara would definitely not dare to torment him anymore.

The boy was determined to study hard so that his sister's efforts wouldn't be in vain and so that he could support her in the future. He wanted to show everyone who looked down on or bullied them what was going on.

The father and son were overjoyed, while Yehenara was seething with hatred.

Originally, all of this should have belonged to his son, but now it has benefited that brat. Now that brat has caught the Emperor's eye, he will probably be even more difficult to deal with in the future.

Thinking about Heshelijiahui's future, Yehenara's eyes grew increasingly fierce. She would never allow this boy to have any chance of surpassing her child in the future.

The maidservant holding the child beside her trembled.

No one knows what she's thinking, and even if they did, they'd probably just call her a bit crazy.

This is clearly the credit that the older sister fought for for her younger brother; it has absolutely nothing to do with her.

Mingxiu was completely unaware of the chaos at home. She was now sitting in front of the newly installed glass window, watching the snow scene and sipping hot milk tea, thoroughly enjoying herself.

During the New Year, the Emperor took the Crown Prince to see the Empress Dowager, and Xu Mama went along. Mingxiu didn't mind; she finally had some time alone, so why not enjoy it?

Looking at the heavy snow outside, Mingxiu touched the family photo in her hand.

She was a little homesick and wondered how her parents were doing. She wondered if Hesheli Mingxiu could take good care of them and if they would find out that their daughter had been given a new soul.
