New book is open: "Qing Dynasty Transmigration: Fourth Master's Beloved Consort", welcoming new and old friends to follow.
Before transmigration, Lin Mengyao was a leftover woman ...
Nian Gengyao finally arrived. The Fourth Master had told Lanqin the night before that he had to stay with the Nian siblings and probably wouldn't be able to come for the next few days. Lanqin wasn't as upset as she had imagined; she simply planned to stay in her courtyard for the next few days and not go anywhere else to avoid any further trouble.
Lady Nian has been very happy these past few days. In preparation for welcoming Nian Gengyao, she specially ordered someone to renovate several empty rooms in the East Courtyard, hoping to have her brother stay for a few nights. The two siblings have a very good relationship.
On this day, the house was almost finished being repaired, and Nian Gengyao would be arriving soon. However, Nian seemed listless and his spirits did not seem to be good.
"Master, the house over there has been repaired. The steward requests that you go over and take a look, see if there are any areas that are not good, and fix them immediately. The General will be arriving the day after tomorrow," Bi Rou said as she walked to Nian Shi's side.
Lady Nian was lying on the chaise longue, with a faint bluish tinge between her brows and her face slightly pale.
"Master, are you feeling unwell? Should we call a doctor to take a look?" Bai Zhi, who was dusting the antique shelf with a feather duster, noticed that Madam Nian had been looking unwell since she got up early in the morning and was still not feeling better, so she said.
Madam Nian opened her eyes and waved her hand, saying, "My brother is coming soon. How can I let him see me calling a doctor? Perhaps I've been too busy these past few days and I feel much better after lying down for a while."
Bi Rou helped Nian Shi up, and the two of them left the house and went to the back of the east courtyard. Nian Shi picked out a few good rooms, intending for Nian Gengyao to stay there for a few days.
As Nian helped Birou into the courtyard, the spring sunlight shone down, making them slightly dizzy. The fragrance of flowers and trees filled the courtyard, wafting into their nostrils and leaving them feeling somewhat bloated.
"These flowering trees and their fragrance are too strong. Let's have some of them removed," said Madam Nian, frowning.
Bi Rou was surprised. These flowers and trees were all ones that Nian Shi liked, and she had them specially transplanted here. How could she not like them after such a short time?
The master and servant walked into the corridor and headed towards the newly renovated house along the long passageway. There they found a courtyard with its own gate and yard, in front of which stood two tall ginkgo trees, their tender green leaves swaying in the spring breeze.
With Bi Rou's hand in hand, Madam Nian carefully examined and inspected the place, afraid of missing any repairs. Only after she had checked all the houses and furnishings in the entire courtyard did she feel relieved.
“We need to transfer a few people to serve here. My brother is a great general, and he may have attendants with him. Let them live in the east wing, and let the servants and maids live in the west wing,” Madam Nian said to Bi Rou.
"Yes, this servant will go ask the head nanny for more people in a moment. There aren't many people around the master, so we can't get any more," Bi Rou said.
So, Nian helped Birou walk back with peace of mind. Speaking of the head nanny, she really had a headache. Every time she encountered something, dealing with that head nanny was always unpleasant. So, Nian usually sent her own maid instead of speaking to her herself.
When she returned to the house, Ms. Nian felt a slight nausea. She gagged and her complexion turned ashen.
"Master, what's wrong?" Cui Ling had just brought back the bird's nest that Nian Shi took every day. When she saw Nian Shi start gagging as soon as she entered the door, she quickly put down the bird's nest in her hand and went to check on Nian Shi.
"I don't know why, but I feel nauseous," said Mrs. Nian, her lips drooping. She felt as if her whole body was about to vomit.
"Master, could it be that you are pregnant?" Cui Ling asked with a smile, because Fourth Master had been visiting quite often lately.
When Ms. Nian heard what she said, she also began to doubt whether she was really pregnant. She said that she had suddenly felt unwell, tired, sleepy and nauseous in the past few days, which was quite similar to being pregnant.
“My lady, if you are indeed pregnant, that would be double the joy. Why don’t we hurry and fetch a doctor to take a look? I think it looks like you are! If the General comes and learns that you are pregnant again, he will surely be overjoyed,” Cui Ling said with a smile.
Bai Zhi and several other maids urged Madam Nian to fetch a doctor. Madam Nian nodded, and Cui Ling rushed out of the east courtyard to fetch Doctor Lin.
"Master, the bird's nest won't taste good when it's cold. Let me serve you some!" Bi Rou said, noticing the food box on the table.
Although Ms. Nian didn't have much of an appetite, she was even more determined to eat in order to maintain her health, and now that she was starting to suspect she was pregnant.
Meanwhile, Cuiling invited Doctor Lin to the east courtyard. After consuming the blood bird's nest, Madam Nian lay down on the chaise lounge to rest.
After Doctor Lin took Nian's pulse, several maids stood nervously to the side, all watching Doctor Lin's expression.
But after examining her for a long time, Dr. Lin still didn't show that familiar smile.
"Dr. Lin, I haven't been feeling well these past few days, is something wrong?" Madam Nian's heart had been pounding with anxiety, and seeing Dr. Lin remain silent for so long, she began to worry. If it were a pregnancy, how could it take so long to diagnose?
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Doctor Lin's face. After taking back the cloth he had used to examine Lady Nian's pulse, he said to her, "Your Highness, I have just carefully examined your pulse and found nothing wrong. Perhaps Your Highness has been tired these past few days, which is why you feel fatigued. It could also be that you ate something inappropriate, causing nausea."
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a pang of disappointment, but no matter how disappointed they were, there was still no one.
"I told you, you maids are making a fuss over nothing. Hurry up and send Doctor Lin back!" Madam Nian glared at Cui Ling and the others with some displeasure, then turned her head away and closed her eyes.
Dr. Lin packed up his medical kit and left with Bi Rou.
Seeing that Madam Nian was displeased, Cui Ling and Bai Zhi quickly comforted her, saying, "We were just making a fuss. Please don't be upset, Madam. The General is about to leave. It's good that you're alright."
Ms. Nian wasn't really angry; she just thought she was pregnant and was a little disappointed. Seeing that Cui Ling and the others were doing it for her own good, she said, "You can all go now. I'm very tired. I'll be fine after a rest."
Cui Ling and the other maids dared not disturb Madam Nian, and immediately retreated quietly.
Over the next few days, Madam Nian still felt unwell, constantly tired, with a poor appetite, and occasionally nauseous. Because of what Doctor Lin had said, Madam Nian didn't take it too seriously.
Finally, Nian Gengyao was about to enter the mansion, and Lady Nian mustered her spirits to prepare to welcome her brother.
