New book is open: "Qing Dynasty Transmigration: Fourth Master's Beloved Consort", welcoming new and old friends to follow.
Before transmigration, Lin Mengyao was a leftover woman ...
A large torch was lit outside the main tent, and the servants lit several smaller torches around the large bonfire. Some small animals had already been skinned, cleaned, and placed on special barbecue racks to roast over the fire.
After exchanging a few words with Xinyi and Shuhui, Lanqin's worries dissipated considerably. She even went to instruct someone to start cooking soup, as the roasted meat would be greasy, and a warm vegetable soup would be much more comforting. She also wanted to find something to do, otherwise her anxieties would overwhelm her.
The moon rose in the sky, a crescent moon, and a sky full of stars, like newly born diamonds, were spread on a dark velvet cloth, dazzling and brilliant.
"Master, Fourth Master is back! Fourth Master is back!" Nianxue rushed into the tent and said to Lanqin, who was preparing vegetable soup with Xinyi and Shuhui.
Lanqin was startled, but her face immediately lit up with joy. She dropped the sauce packet in her hand and stood up abruptly.
"Sister, go quickly. We'll take charge here. We already know what to do," Xin Yi said with a smile.
Lanqin nodded and immediately ran quickly towards the outside of the tent.
She had just stepped out of the tent Nianxue had opened for her when she saw Fourth Master and Thirteenth Master standing not far away, instructing the servants to carry down their captured prey one by one. Third Master, Seventh Master, and Tenth Master were all asking Fourth Master why they had returned so late, while Eighth Master, Ninth Master, and Fourteenth Master were all sitting to the side watching without going forward to inquire.
"My fourth brother and I chased this guy for almost an hour before we finally found it in a ditch of fallen leaves," Thirteen said with a laugh. "That wild boar was really cunning; it burrowed into a deep hole and refused to come out. Can you guess how we got it out?"
"Good heavens, this wild boar is quite big. It must have taken you a lot of effort to catch it," the third brother said, glancing at the wild boar with its limbs hanging up.
"Did you use smoke to fumigate it? I see a layer of grayish stuff in the wild boar's eyes." Tenth Master even went up and pried open the wild boar's eyelids to take a look.
"As expected of Tenth Brother, yes, we used smoke to drive it out of the cave. Otherwise, why would it be so late?" Thirteenth Brother, along with Third Master, Seventh Master, and Tenth Master, vividly recounted how he and Fourth Master captured the wild boar.
When Fourth Master saw Lanqin standing by the main tent looking at him, as if she wanted to come forward but was holding back, he knew that she must be worried about him. She had promised to return at 3:00 AM.
Fourth Master walked up to Lanqin and saw the little woman's slightly furrowed brows. He knew that she was like this because she had been worried.
"Wild boars are too cunning. It took me a lot of effort to catch one. But its meat is definitely worth the wait. I'll roast some for you to try later." Seeing that everyone was there, Fourth Master felt embarrassed to pull Lanqin into his arms to coax her, so he could only say this.
Lanqin couldn't hold back any longer and burst out laughing. Then she pouted and said, "You're making me sound like a glutton. It's clearly you who wants to eat wild boar meat, but you insist on dragging me down with you."
Fourth Master raised his hand and tapped Lanqin's forehead. Seeing that she was finally willing to speak, he said casually, "Come on, let's go to our tent and change some clothes. My clothes smell of urine from hunting this wild boar."
It turned out that there were more than twenty small tents set up behind the main tent. Lanqin said she wanted to experience life on the grasslands, so Fourth Master decided that they would set up tents and rest for the night after the bonfire barbecue. Everyone was assigned a tent, starting with Third Master and counting down to Fourteenth Master, including Xinyi and Shuhui, each person had their own tent, except for Fourth Master and Lanqin who shared one. The rest were for the servants to sleep in.
Lanqin blushed slightly and pulled Fourth Master toward their tent. Nianxue wanted to follow, but was stopped by Cui Niang.
"Don't go. It's not like being in the manor here. Didn't you see that Master wanted to spend some time alone with her?" Cui Niang said. The servants who served them arrived one after another after Lan Qin and the others had set off on the hunt. They had already set up the tents for resting and prepared everything inside. Only Wu Xiha and Xi Chen did not come. Lan Qin was worried that they were too young and could not withstand the cold outside, so she did not let them come.
Lanqin and Fourth Master walked to the back of the main tent and saw a row of tents along the grass. Each one was not small, but of course, it was much smaller than the main tent.
“They’re all made exactly the same; it’s easy to get them mixed up,” Lanqin said, frowning slightly.
"Later, I'll have Su Peisheng put a conspicuous mark on everyone's tent, indicating their names and titles so they won't get confused." Fourth Master pulled Lanqin into their tent, because Su Peisheng was standing at the tent door.
"Greetings to the master and the concubine," Su Peisheng said obsequiously. He and his men had set up all the tents.
"Go and mark each tent with a sign at the entrance; otherwise, it will be impossible to tell who lives where," Fourth Master said in a deep voice.
Su Peisheng's expression froze for a moment, and he quickly said, "Yes, this servant was negligent. This servant will send someone to do it immediately."
Fourth Master grunted in agreement and then pulled Lanqin into their tent. Inside, the bed had already been set up, the floor was covered with a thick Western Region carpet, and there was even an octagonal table with tea sets and some of Fourth Master's books on it.
The Fourth Master and Lanqin's clothes were all packed in a woven wisteria box. Lanqin was about to take it when the Fourth Master hugged her from behind.
"Master~" Lanqin said gently.
"I'm sorry for making you worry. It's all my fault," Fourth Master murmured in his ear.
Lanqin felt a warmth in her heart and said, "Your Highness is now bound to the imperial court, and Father Emperor values you highly. You must never put yourself in danger again, okay?"
The Fourth Prince's heart stirred, and he held the girl in his arms even tighter. He was still surprised: she was just a young lady confined to the courtyard every day. How could she know that the Emperor valued him?
"My lord, let me help you change your clothes," Lanqin said after being embraced by the Fourth Prince for a while.
Fourth Master refused to let go, asking, "What's going on between Seventh Prince and Xinyi? Or Tenth Prince and Shuhui?"
Lanqin smiled and said, "What do you mean, what happened? They've hit it off!"
The Fourth Prince paused for a moment and said, "You've turned this hunting trip into a matchmaking event? They have to go through a selection process before they can settle down. What if one of them catches the Emperor's eye?"
