To put it simply:

The red divine bow, because of its merits in shooting down the sun and slaying monsters, was called the "Sun-Shooting Bow" or "Sun-Chasing Bow," and became the foremost of the ten divine bows in the world.

At first glance, this story seems like a positive tale of a divine archer saving all of humanity, but upon closer analysis, something just doesn't seem right:

Emperor Di Jun, who bestowed the divine bow upon Hou Yi, was himself a three-legged golden crow born from the sun. He led the demon race, established the Primordial Heavenly Court, and was the first emperor of the Heavenly Court.

The nine small suns that Hou Yi killed were his own sons, the ninth of the ten princes of the ancient Heavenly Court!
