Chapter 6: I Took Off My Brother's Green Hat (6)
During the argument, Feng Wanyi went out once and didn't notice that an inconspicuous car was following behind her when she got into her car.
Ji Huaizhi placed the fish meat, after removing the bones, into Shushu's bowl.
Ji Shu's eyes crinkled into crescents; she looked a bit plumper lately.
Mrs. Ji: "I have something to do tomorrow, Lao Ji, don't go out to play cards. Stay home and take good care of the children."
"I made an appointment with Lao Xu." Father Ji had lost money these past two days and was hoping to win it back tomorrow.
"Can't you distinguish between what's important and what's urgent?" Madam Ji frowned.
Father Ji nodded, about to agree.
Then Ji Huaizhi spoke:
"Shushu will come to school with me tomorrow."
Father Ji: "That's fine, let her get used to the classroom while we're at it."
"Nonsense." Mrs. Ji glared at Mr. Ji, then turned to ask Ji Huaizhi:
"Won't she be too young to disrupt your classes?"
Ji Huaizhi shook his head: "No, just talk to the homeroom teacher. She's easy to talk to, and Shushu doesn't cry or make a fuss."
The adults weren't keeping their conversation private with the child, and Ji Shu felt a little awkward, as if she realized she had probably delayed her grandparents' plans.
Ji Huaizhi noticed: "Tomorrow, your uncle will take you to a place you've never been before."
"I can have my dad pick me up." Ji Shu picked up a piece of rice from the table and put it in her mouth, her eyes looking a little cautious.
“Your dad must be busy right now.” Ji Huaizhi thought that she hadn’t seen her family in a long time: “Tomorrow is Friday, go to your dad’s after school.”
Ji Shu's eyes lit up with surprise: "Mhm."
"Does Shushu miss her parents?" Ji's mother felt a warmth in her heart as she looked at her well-behaved granddaughter.
Daughters are better than boys.
"Yes, I haven't been back for many days," Ji Shu said in a soft, sweet voice.
"Your parents are really something. It's been so many days and they haven't come to see you. I don't know what they've been busy with," Ji's mother complained, her child had been waiting for so long.
"And your mother, she hasn't called even once. I'm really relieved."
Seeing her blinking and looking at her, Ji's mother didn't say anything more.
Since ancient times, there has been a wall separating parents-in-law.
If she finds out what she said, it will put her eldest son in a difficult position again.
"Alright, young people have their own things to do," Old Ji said leisurely.
"Perhaps next time we see it, there will be good news to tell us."
He assumed the couple wanted a second child, which was why they sent the child over.
Ji Huaizhi looked up at him and said, "I have some news to tell you, but whether it's good or bad is hard to say."
Mrs. Ji frowned: "What happened to your brother and sister-in-law?"
Ji Huaizhi: "It's nothing, I just said it offhand."
After finishing his meal, he put down his bowl and stood up: "Shushu, come to your uncle's room after you finish eating. I brought you some princess stickers today."
Ji Shu's eyes lit up, and she lost her appetite.
When Ji's mother saw this, she told her not to rush: "Go after you finish eating, that thing won't run away."
These past few days, Ji Shu has learned to refuse: "Grandma, I can't eat anymore. Feel Shu Shu's tummy."
Mother Ji pretended to touch it: "It's round, but there's still one bite left. After you finish eating it, you'll grow taller."
Ji Shu ate with difficulty and went to Ji Huaizhi's room.
Seeing that she was stuffed, Ji Huaizhi raised an eyebrow and laughed: "Your grandma really fed you like a pig."
"Uncle, my stomach hurts." She frowned slightly, looking uncomfortable.
Ji Huaizhi reached out his hand, and Ji Shu stepped forward to pull him back.
"Will you know how to say no next time?"
Ji Huaizhi placed his hand on her stomach and gently massaged it a few times. Ji Shu felt visibly better afterward, and the bloating and pain disappeared as she climbed onto the beanbag chair.
"Grandma is so hospitable."
"But I will never eat this much again."
She now really likes to cling to her uncle; she used to dislike him because he was always scary.
The child could clearly sense the other person's emotions. She could feel that the original owner didn't like her and hated her.
But now she realizes that her uncle is just like her father.
"Uncle, are we really going to see Dad tomorrow?" She missed her father.
"Hmm." Ji Huaizhi handed her the sticker: "Don't you miss your mom?"
Ji Shu tore off the stickers and played with them: "Just a little bit."
It seems that Feng Wanyi wasn't very good to Ji Shu either, otherwise he wouldn't have developed such a timid personality.
Logically speaking, children should have a better bond with their stay-at-home moms.
But Shushu mentioned her father the most.
The next day, Ji Huaizhi brought the little child into the classroom, and everyone was surprised: "Where did this child come from?"
"Is this Brother Ji's sister?"
"What an adorable doll."
Ji Shu quietly returned to her seat with her uncle.
Ji Huaizhi pulled a stool over from someone else's seat: "Go find another one yourself. I'll treat you to a Coke at noon."
The man didn't seem to mind: "It's alright, I'll just go find a stool later."
"Brother Ji, is this your sister?"
People gathered around, wanting to touch Ji Shu's face.
Ji Huaizhi slapped his hand away: "My niece, have you washed your hands?"
"hey-hey."
Ji Shu shyly hugged Ji Huaizhi's leg, looking at this and that, hiding herself behind her uncle.
Ji Huaizhi picked her up with one hand and let her sit on his lap: "If you need to go to the toilet or get some water, just tell me."
Ji Shu nodded: "Understood."
"Brother Ji, if she has nowhere to go, why doesn't she go to daycare?"
Why go to daycare?
"I have a child at home, but he's not old enough for kindergarten, so I send him to daycare." The person speaking adjusted his side-swept bangs.
"Besides, you can't possibly bring a little kid along when we go to fight today, can you?"
"Our school will be laughed at to death by the other side."
Ji Huaizhi remained silent; he had forgotten that the original owner of this body was a scoundrel.
I'm not going today.
"No way, we'll lose all our confidence if you don't go." The man with the side-swept bangs gritted his teeth: "I'll help you take care of the kids!"
"Class is starting, don't stand in front of me."
Ji Huaizhi told him to get up.
The homeroom teacher came in and glanced at Ji Huaizhi's seat; the child was behaving quite well for the time being.
