Chapter 76: Danger in the Mountains

Nearly an hour of confusion and tension made Jiang Ling exhausted both physically and mentally. Coupled with the fear just now, when she heard Zhou Jing'an's voice, her body suddenly softened and her whole body felt numb.

She no longer cared about anything else, turned around and quickly rushed over to the sound, and sure enough, she fell into a warm embrace.

Her voice trembled, her words choked with sobs, her small hands tightly grasping his collar, "Zhou Jing'an, there's a snake..."

Zhou Jing'an froze when she pounced on him. He felt his heart soften at her soft sobs. He held her in his arms and whispered soothingly, "Well, don't move. I'll take care of it."

"Don't go." Jiang Ling felt that he was about to push her away, and subconsciously hugged him tightly, "It's too dark here, I can't see you..."

It's so dark here, I won't be able to see him if he walks away.

She had finally found him, she couldn't let him get away.

Zhou Jing'an's heart began to beat faster as Jiang Ling approached. He spoke helplessly, and carefully stroked Jiang Ling's hair with his left hand, patting it gently, and coaxed: "I won't leave. Let me go first, otherwise how can I kill the snake?"

Jiang Ling knew that she was being a little pretentious, so she held back the tears that were about to come out, sniffed, said "hmm" softly, and let him go.

But my eyes kept following his figure, even though it was only a vague outline.

When Wen Xiang left, Zhou Jing'an pursed his lips, feeling empty inside.

He didn't have time to feel the remaining warmth of Jiang Ling. He listened carefully, quietly picked up the bow and arrow, and the next moment after the "hissing" sound, he quickly took action, put the arrow on the bow, and the arrow was released, killing the man with one blow.

Zhou Jingan quickly walked over to check and said, "He's dead, don't..."

When he turned around, he found Jiang Ling following her closely and almost bumping into him.

Zhou Jing'an's eyes paused and softened.

"Don't be afraid." He said softly.

Jiang Ling had recovered by now and was calmer, but her voice was still weak and frail. She replied, "Thank you, Mr. Zhou."

The words "Mr. Zhou" were like a glass of cold water poured down on him. Zhou Jing'an lowered his eyebrows and responded softly.

Then he asked her, "How did you get into the forest by mistake?"

Jiang Ling recounted the scene before entering the jungle in detail, and then felt that Zhou Jing'an's aura was a little cold.

She looked up, "Where's Mr. Zhou?"

Zhou Jing'an's eyes flashed, and he replied, "Chasing the bandits."

Jiang Ling nodded and asked him, "Then how do we get back to the camp now?"

Both of them fell silent.

Zhou Jing'an had never expected to meet Jiang Ling in the mountains.

All variables outside the plan should be eliminated according to the original arrangements.

But if this variable is Jiang Ling...

Zhou Jing'an looked down at her, with a flash of pity and helplessness in his eyes.

He would naturally not hurt her in the slightest.

Just letting her go back alone would be too dangerous for her to go through this forest alone, and Zhou Jing'an would definitely not feel at ease.

It seems I can only keep her with me.

In a flash, he raised his eyes and replied, "The trees are tall and the forest is deep here, making it difficult to tell the direction. I have no choice but to find the way back as I walk."

Jiang Ling's heart sank when he heard these words which were almost identical to those in the book.

Fortunately, everything is going on as usual.

She nodded. "Okay."

So she followed Zhou Jing'an obediently, but Zhou Jing'an was tall and had long legs, so although he deliberately slowed down his pace, Jiang Ling still found it difficult to keep up.

While she had to pay attention to the rocks and thorn bushes under her feet, she also had to look up at Zhou Jing'an in front of her.

Plus, it was too dark, so she couldn't walk fast.

After walking for a short distance, Zhou Jing'an discovered the problem. He stopped and asked her not to move. He found a branch as thick as his wrist and cut off the side branches with his sword. He also tore off a piece of the lining of his robe.

He quickly returned to the place where he had just been, picked up the dead snake, deftly took out the fat inside and smeared it on the top of the branch, then wrapped it with cloth, took out a tinder and lit it.

Jiang Ling stood there motionless. When she looked up again, she saw Zhou Jing'an coming towards her with a torch.

The orange-red light illuminated his figure, and the flames moved with the wind, flickeringly reflecting his handsome face. His eyes looked fixedly at Jiang Ling, deep and gentle.

Jiang Ling watched Zhou Jing'an walk towards her step by step.

Drive away darkness and bring light.

It’s like “lighting up the darkness in life” has a concrete picture.

She suddenly thought of a line from a classic movie in her past life: "My beloved is a peerless hero. One day he will come to marry me, clad in golden armor and riding on a colorful cloud."

Although it's not a colorful cloud, torches look nice too, she thought.

Zhou Jing'an walked up to her and looked at her bright eyes reflecting his figure, with a smile in her eyes.

He pulled out an arrow from the quiver behind him and handed the feathered end to Jiang Ling. "I'll walk slowly, you don't have to rush."

"Okay." Jiang Ling came back to his senses and responded with lowered eyes.

So Zhou Jing'an held the torch in one hand and the arrow in the other, and Jiang Ling held the arrow feather and let him lead the way.

After walking for a while, Zhou Jing'an saw the cliff and turned back to her and said, "It's getting late. Let's find a cave to hide in."

Jiang Ling nodded in agreement.

She wanted to see what the cave looked like.

But I haven’t met Shen Qingru and Chang Shu yet. What’s going on?

But she didn't dare to ask, so she just followed obediently.

Suddenly Zhou Jing'an stopped in his tracks. Jiang Ling stopped and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
