"Lotus." Gu Jiangli called softly, and Lotus immediately stopped and turned around.

"Madam, you're awake so early."

Gu Jiangli nodded and asked, "Where are you taking them?"

When she asked that question, Lotus lowered her head and hesitated for a moment. When she raised her head, her eyes were already clear.

"Madam, I'll take them to the back mountain."

Lotus did not hide their purpose.

Gu Jiangli looked at the two sacks and asked again, "Are they already dead?"

Lotus shook her head. "Not yet. The general said that since you are pregnant, it is not appropriate to do such unlucky things at home."

"It's okay, I made you a new one these past two days."

The tenderness in Lotus's eyes was all focused on the purse in her hand.

“Mother, I may never understand your love for Gu Xun, your patriotism for Nanlin... just as you may never understand my loyalty to Miss.”

"Do you know? When I was young, I lost both you and Miss. Every day since then, I have been dreaming of the moment when I can see you and Miss again."

Yue Qiao'e closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face.

Her sobs sounded more like weeping.

"Mother, in the next life, let's not be mother and daughter, let's be enemies."

She threw the brand-new purse into the pit, where it landed on Yue Qiao'e's chest. "I won't stay with you anymore. Just think of this as a dead lotus flower. It will keep you company when you become a wandering ghost."

Lotus's indifferent expression was as if she were looking at two speechless corpses.

The two people at the bottom of the pit kept making hoarse screams, as if they were making their last struggle before death.

The lotus flower stood motionless at the edge of the pit.

The servant shoveled soil into the pit again and again until it covered the two men's arms and necks, until finally the resentful look in their eyes could no longer be seen.
