Gu Jiangli, who was about to reach the pinnacle of her life, was on the brink of death due to a sudden cerebral infarction. The only way to save herself was to follow the Childbirth System to vario...
Yueying is innocent and carefree, and often makes everyone laugh as soon as she opens her mouth.
After Heng'er became emperor, he returned home much less often, and it was usually Gu Jiangli and the prince who would occasionally visit him at the palace.
Every time Gu Jiangli saw Heng'er sitting on the dragon throne, diligently processing memorials, he felt a surge of emotion and satisfaction.
Heng'er originally wanted to bestow upon them the titles of nominal Emperor Emeritus and Empress Dowager, but Gu Jiangli and the Prince refused.
The prince and she only wanted to enjoy their wealth and luxury outside the palace and had no desire to have anything to do with it.
Yu'er participated in the imperial examination and became the second-place candidate.
He said he wanted to start from the lowest rank, so he went to the neighboring county to serve as a county magistrate.
The young emperor who voluntarily abdicated is now living in seclusion in the countryside, under an assumed name.
The prince had prepared a house for him and given him a large sum of money, enough for him to live a luxurious life for the rest of his days. But he refused it all, saying that he preferred the fresh mountain breeze and flowing water of the countryside.
They often received letters from him, in which he would tell them that he had met a kind woman and had learned to farm under her tutelage.
They do farm work every day and drink clear spring water from the mountains, living a carefree and happy life.
At first, some villagers laughed at him, saying that he was too thin and weak to do farm work as well as a woman. But gradually, he became skilled enough to do farm work just like any other farmer.
He would occasionally send people to deliver some of his farm produce to the Prince's residence, so that Gu Jiangli and the Prince could taste the fruits of his hard work.
About two or three years later, the late emperor wrote to say that he had married that woman and they had twins, a boy and a girl.
He did not hide this matter from the prince and Gu Jiangli.
When the prince saw the letter, he even smiled and said:
“Look, Heng’er calculated that he was destined to have a child, and it was indeed true.”
Gu Jiangli nestled on the prince's shoulder and read the letter with him. "Yes, he is very open and honest. Why don't we send some congratulatory gifts over as well?"
Every time the child found out she was pregnant, he would send her a gift, so of course they had to reciprocate.
The prince immediately agreed.
When the children heard that they were going to the countryside, they were all excited and wanted to go with them.
Their whole family rode in a large horse-drawn carriage to the countryside where their sworn brother lived.
The villagers passing by seemed to have never seen such a large carriage before, and they all stopped to look around. Seeing that the people getting off the carriage were all handsome and beautiful, they guessed that this must be a wealthy family.
Mu Qing, as the eldest sister in the carriage, was the first to jump off and immediately spotted the master they were visiting.
"Uncle Li! We've come to see you!"
The man, dressed in simple clothes and with a handsome face, was startled by the shout as he came out of the house carrying an infant.
Then, his face changed from surprise to barely concealed excitement.
"Brother! Sister-in-law! Mu Qing!"
Cheng Yi and Cheng Yun, who were behind Gu Jiangli, also peeked out, and Yue Ying, with her two pigtails sticking up, couldn't wait to run over.
"You must be Uncle Li! My mother said you've become a father, so we came all here to congratulate you!" Her smile was radiant, making everyone happy along with her.
Gu Jiangli walked over with several children, patting Yueying's head helplessly. "Little brother, this is Yueying. She's just four years old. She's been talking about you the whole time. She said we always mention Uncle Li, but she's never met him. As soon as she heard we were coming to see you, she was so happy that she kept chattering all the way here."
He hadn't seen the prince's family for a long time, and was quite moved when he suddenly saw them again.
"Thank you so much, sister-in-law and sworn brother, for remembering me. Please come in and sit down! It's just that my place is a bit cramped..."
"It's alright." Neither the prince nor she cared about it.
Upon entering, a woman was sitting on the bed, gently coaxing a child in her arms.
Her eyes were clear, her complexion was rosy, and she was in good spirits.
She seemed very happy to see the guests arrive.
She then asked her husband about the guest's identity.
The husband introduced them to the woman truthfully, which startled her.
She never imagined that her husband could get to know a prince of the current dynasty, and that they would have such a good relationship!
She was so anxious that she was about to get out of bed to pay her respects, but Gu Jiangli stopped her.
They came here simply to offer their congratulations; there's no need for them to perform elaborate rituals.
The two families sat together and chatted happily.
At night, a pure black carriage was also parked outside the courtyard.
Heng'er entered the room dressed in a pure black night outfit.
As soon as he sat down, he took a sip of tea. “Uncle Li, it was really not easy for me to come all this way. I had to sneak out like a thief, otherwise those ministers would probably have sent thirty or fifty guards to come with me.”
With Heng'er's arrival, the two families were finally reunited.
He glanced at the child in Uncle Li and his wife's arms, and smiled confidently:
"How was it, Uncle Li? I was right, wasn't I?"
"Yes, I never thought I would have a child."
"No rush, there will be another one soon!" Heng'er said jokingly, and the woman blushed.
Gu Jiangli and the prince watched the two get along, and the family seemed to be living a very happy life.
“Your Highness, my sworn brother smiles much more now that he’s left his original position. He’s definitely suited to a more carefree and leisurely life.”
The prince gave a soft "hmm": "He's much happier now."
Gu Jiangli was also very happy.
The chirping of birds and cicadas in the countryside always brings a sense of peace.
Seeing her children, all talented, now happily talking with her sworn brother's family, she suddenly felt a sense of satisfaction.
