Song Xia was completely stunned when she was chosen by the system; she couldn't understand it at all. She had never given birth, and her heart had long since turned to ice, so why was she chose...
"It really is them!"
"Sister Song, Sister Song!"
"Sister Song, I love you!"
"Sister Song, welcome back!"
"Song Zile, you guys are awesome!"
As soon as the convoy entered the new district, it was greeted by a welcoming crowd that lined the streets. The cheers and screams were deafening. Watching this scene, Jin Huaimin understood for the first time what the will of the people meant.
Why is it that the older I get, the less I can understand things? It's the end of the world, and there are barely any survivors left. All people are looking for is a peaceful life. Yet he's still thinking about all sorts of nonsense. No wonder people's hearts are becoming increasingly disillusioned.
Fortunately, there was someone who completely corrected his ambition. Thinking of the innocent civilians who died tragically in the base after the apocalypse, Jin Huaimin felt ashamed to stand here any longer. Thoroughly reorganizing the White Tiger Base was his way of giving an explanation to the other survivors and Song Xia.
When Zhong Xun turned around, Jin Huaimin was nowhere to be seen. Later, the affairs of the White Tiger Base were all handed over by the secretary, and no one saw him again.
Zhong Xun sighed silently. Was he sorry for Uncle Jin? Somewhat, after all, they had been friends for so many years. But because of Uncle Jin's greed, many innocent survivors had indeed died at the White Tiger Base. If Uncle Jin were to take on a management position after the White Tiger Base and the New District merged, many people would probably object. But if Uncle Jin were to remain an ordinary survivor at the base, he knew that with Uncle Jin's pride over the years, he would definitely not be able to adapt to the change. So leaving was the best choice under duress. As for the consequences of leaving, he sighed heavily.
He looked at his hands again, then gave a bitter smile. How could his obsessive experiments have done justice to those who died in the laboratory?
However, he will not choose to disappear like Uncle Jin; he will serve the White Tiger Base and the New District for the rest of his life to atone for his sins.
Moreover, he hoped, and believed, that Song Xia and those children would lead the survivors into a new era, and he stayed behind to witness that moment with his own eyes.
However, Zhong Xun could never have imagined that Song Zile and his group would take such a big leap forward.
The cheers continued. Zhong Xun glanced at them deeply, then went back to his own business.
As they approached the base, watching the survivors cheering and crowding around them, Song Xia, Song Ziming, and the others felt a mix of emotions. They even deeply despised and condemned their previous idea of living a peaceful life. Everyone trusted them so much, how could they abandon them?
I waved vigorously to the crowd, and at that moment, a strong sense of responsibility welled up inside me.
Song Xia stared blankly at the flower wreaths and food being thrown at her, her heart beating faster than ever before because of the little ones.
She knew that flowers were a way to express love and joy, while food was the most precious thing in this post-apocalyptic world. Although the White Tiger Base and the new district would no longer let survivors go hungry for long periods, the lingering fear of food shortages after the apocalypse had instilled in everyone a good habit of saving food. Yet now, they were giving her the most precious thing.
So I am that important to them? Do they know my true identity?
Song Xia smiled wryly. Since she was unlikely to turn into a zombie again in the future, why was she so worried about doing this?
Since these survivors respect me so much, I can protect the cubs as well, since it won't take much effort, right?
From initially not wanting to come back to quickly throwing themselves into work after returning, Song Ziming and the others hardly needed any time to adapt. Perhaps they were born to be busy and take charge. It seemed as if it was preordained that Song's mother would adopt them in the first place, as their talents and abilities were put to good use in different directions.
Song Xia, who urged them to return, ended up being the most idle one.
On the surface, she is the joint leader of the New District and the White Tiger Base, but in reality, she doesn't care about any important matters. She only steps in to solve problems when the people in the base encounter zombies and mutated animals that they can't handle.
Most of the time, she would wander around the new district, either visiting Song Ziming to check on the expansion plans, or going to Song Ziqi's place to look at the newly cultivated mutant crops, or going on adventures with Song Ziyang and Song Ziying. Of course, with her around, there was never any danger.
Alternatively, she would go and see what new progress Song Zile's experiment had made. Whenever she came here, it was when her curiosity was at its peak.
"So, what is this?"
“Exploration robot,” Song Zile replied to Song Xia, giving the robot the command, “Number 10, attack me.”
A mechanical voice announced: "Number 10 cannot attack the creator."
"I command you to attack me. The First Law of Robotics: Obey the instructions of your creator unconditionally."
The robot paused for a moment, then mechanically replied, "Sorry, Number Ten cannot attack creators."
Song Xia looked at them in surprise, then asked Song Zile, "It has consciousness?"
“Hmm.” Song Zile nodded. “This is what the crystal core gave it. Currently, only the crystal cores of high-level zombies can give robots a little consciousness, but the success rate of the experiment is only one in ten.”
Seeing Song Xia's furrowed brows, Song Zile explained, "Don't worry, Mom, they won't pose a threat to humans. They have self-destruction programs in their bodies, and I only created them to replace humans in interstellar exploration. Interstellar exploration is very dangerous, and it's better to be conscious than unconscious."
"Interstellar exploration? You've unlocked the secrets of the Black Stone?"
Song Zile's eyes seemed to sparkle with starlight: "We've only figured out a little bit so far. The main problem is that we're still lacking a lot of materials, which will require a lot of everyone's time and effort to find. If we can find them..."
