Chapter 8 High School Female Teachers in the 1980s

Fang Minghui's smile vanished. He looked at Xiao Yujie, puzzled.

Xiao Yujie is usually quite perceptive, but her words to Tingting just now were a bit excessive. Everyone's not stupid; they can understand the meaning behind her words. Don't pretend you don't know the situation; it's other people's family matters you shouldn't meddle in. If something really happens, Wenting is her teacher's only daughter. It's none of their business to lecture her.

Seeing that Xiao Yujie was being so tactless again, Fang Minghui spoke again, but his tone was not very good, "It's just one injection, why do you need to go to the inpatient department?"

Li Shaojie also looked at Xiao Yujie, "That's right, Minghui is right. We really don't need to."

"Why not? You haven't had breakfast all morning and you've been waiting in line for so long. You saw how many people were in the injection room when you came over from over there. Go to the back and get it done."

Her tenderness and concern for others made one think she was Li Shaojie's new wife. Xu Keke didn't say much, just watched the two of them.

Li Shaojie wasn't just worried about the crowd; he was also concerned about the fact that he had already run into several acquaintances. They had all given him curious looks. However, he had pretended to be in a hurry to treat his wound and only exchanged greetings without engaging in further conversation. If he stayed in line there any longer, someone might come over and say a few words. Thinking about this, Li Shaojie's resolve began to waver, and it showed on his face.

Xiao Yujie offered a few more words of persuasion, and Li Shaojie acquiesced.

"With Shaojie's injury on his face, if he were to go to the inpatient department, wouldn't people be able to tell something's wrong at a glance?" Xu Keke reminded him calmly.

"Even if his injuries look serious, they're easy to treat!"

Xu Keke was thinking that she hoped they wouldn't just go to the inpatient ward for injections; it would be best if they could stay in the hospital. She didn't want to go home and see these people again. She had brought them out with her, not intending for them to go back.

With Xu Keke's explicit and implicit hints, Xiao Yujie immediately understood. She glanced at the young nurse beside her; she was quite young and usually addressed her as "Dr. Xiao" obsequiously. She figured the nurse wouldn't say anything out of line.

At this moment, Xiao Yujie had countless questions she wanted to ask Li Shaojie. She couldn't worry about anything else. She took gauze from the makeshift worktable and began bandaging Li Shaojie herself, saying, "It's a bit windy outside, it's better to bandage him before going out."

The people in the room, including Li Shaojie, were all taken aback by her self-deceptive behavior.

Fang Minghui was about to speak up to stop her when Xu Keke grabbed his hand and stopped him.

Before Fang Minghui could think any further, Xiao Yujie had already wrapped Li Shaojie's face with gauze. It did look rather frightening.

After seeing the person off, Fang Minghui felt increasingly uneasy. His teacher, Du Junsheng, often said that our job is to save lives and heal the wounded, and we must use all our human and material resources to treat and save people. Any personal feelings, any matter, and anyone must give way to treating patients.

If his teacher found out that they were abusing their power and wasting hospital resources for their own convenience, he didn't dare to think about it. Adding to that Li Shaojie's injury and Wen Ting's attitude today, he felt he should at least inform his teacher and his wife.

The phone was on the director's desk, even though the director wasn't in the outpatient department today. In front of all the doctors, Fang Minghui couldn't say much, only that Li Shaojie was injured and had gone to the inpatient department.

Du Junsheng and his wife Lin Munan are both resting at home today because their daughter got married yesterday.

After receiving Fang Minghui's call, the couple's faces darkened, and they exchanged a glance.

“I used to think Minghui was a pretty clever kid. Why didn’t he ask how he got hurt? He didn’t even say how bad it was,” Lin Munan said worriedly, pushing up her glasses. Her daughter’s wedding day had been followed by her son-in-law going to the hospital. She was very anxious.

“He must have made the call from the department; there are so many people there. Besides, how could he possibly ask? It’s someone else’s private matter.” Du Junsheng was still very protective of his student.

“They’re neighbors, and she calls him ‘Junior Sister’ all the time. Shaojie and he are classmates, so what’s wrong with asking? Call the hospital now and ask someone in the inpatient department. Minghui is still young; he probably can’t see some things.”

Knowing that his daughter was in the hospital and he couldn't contact her, Lin Munan made arrangements for Du Junsheng.

When the two heard that they had indeed seen Du Wenting accompanying a patient to the inpatient department, and that the patient appeared to be seriously injured, Du Junsheng and Lin Munan were completely bewildered. They had already been wanting to check on the patient, and now, without wasting any more time, they quickly changed their clothes and rushed to the hospital.

The distance from the Du family home to the affiliated hospital was not far; Du Junsheng and Lin Munan arrived in no time by bicycle.

The two parked their bikes in the hospital's bicycle shed and headed straight for the inpatient department.

I never expected to see my daughter downstairs in the inpatient ward. Next to her was a tall, strong, and muscular man with a black body, leaning against the wall with a cigarette in his mouth.

Lin Munan's heart skipped a beat when he saw his daughter. She was wearing black wool trousers, a black and white checkered shirt, and a camel-colored cashmere cardigan. It was far too plain; not at all what one would expect for a wedding day.

That day, my younger sister came back from Hong Kong and brought her a bright red wool jacket. My daughter loved it so much and kept saying she wanted to wear it on her wedding day. She saw the jacket with her own eyes, and her daughter specially hung it on the very edge of the wardrobe.

Lin Munan quickly reassured herself not to overthink things, thinking that her daughter probably thought it was inappropriate for her to wear such red to the hospital.

"Why aren't you with Shaojie? What are you doing here? And this is...?" As they approached, Lin Munan looked at the tall, dark-skinned man in front of her and realized he looked familiar. She then looked at her daughter, waiting for her to introduce him.

"This is my maternal grandfather's upstairs neighbor, the third brother from my maternal grandfather's family. We're so grateful to him for driving us to the hospital today. He arranged everything before waiting for you here with me." Xu Keke hurriedly stepped forward, trying to shield herself from Du Junsheng's scrutinizing gaze. Mainly, his eyes were too obvious; this third brother had helped her all morning.

Lin Munan suddenly realized, "I knew I'd seen you somewhere before. Last time I went to the Economics and Management compound, you weren't home. There's a picture of you hanging on the wall in your grandfather's room. Just looking at the picture, I didn't realize you were so tall and strong. I didn't recognize you at first."

Lin Munan couldn't recall his name. He only remembered that when the boy was little, Grandpa Fang's family had a mistress, and the mistress called him that. He really didn't know his real name. Lin Munan could only vaguely say, "Fang San, thank you so much. Your sister is young and easily panicked when things happen. It's all thanks to you old neighbors."

She panics easily in trouble! I really didn't realize that. She left that family at the hospital, grabbed a bag of money, and ate three steamers of buns in one go by the roadside.

Fang San glanced at Xu Keke, who looked completely harmless. He gave Lin Munan a polite smile but didn't reply.
