To recover his memory and life, Xu Keke enters various eras to start a counterattack journey to demand justice for the resentful side characters of era novels.
Rehabilitation is non-existent,...
When they arrived at the surgical outpatient clinic, Xu Keke peeked inside and saw Fang Minghui massaging the arm of a four or five-year-old boy, occasionally talking to the parents next to him.
Seeing that he was busy, Xu Keke pulled San'er to sit on the bench in the corridor first.
"Is he your senior brother?" There were five doctors inside, only one of whom was male. San'er nodded towards the inside with his chin and asked Xu Keke.
This man is taciturn, but quite curious. Xu Keke smiled. Understanding the meaning behind his words, she truthfully replied based on Du Wenting's memory, "He was my dad's student. His parents and my dad used to work at the same cadre school, and later they were transferred to the affiliated hospital. The hospital allocated them a house right across from ours. He likes to joke, so he insisted that I call him 'senior brother'."
San'er nodded thoughtfully, "I heard from my grandpa that you're a high school teacher. I thought he was mistaken."
After saying that, neither of them spoke again. Xu Keke had gotten used to it by now, and sat quietly to the side without saying much.
Not long after, Xiao Yujie arrived with the four members of the Li family.
Xu Keke wasn't there, so Lu Cuihua paid for the registration. Although it was only seven mao (0.7 yuan), the Li family all had a lot of resentment towards Xu Keke. They all pretended not to see her and ignored her.
Xiao Yujie, having somehow gained some information, glanced at her arrogantly, then pushed open the consultation room door and went inside.
The thin, bespectacled female doctor inside sat facing the door, writing a prescription with a pen. Hearing the noise, she looked up and, seeing so many people suddenly enter, frowned slightly and said seriously, "The patient is here, that's enough. Family members, please wait outside for a moment, don't all come in."
Xiao Yujie smiled awkwardly and turned around to tell the three members of the Li family to wait outside.
Seeing that the three members of the Li family had been kicked out, Xu Keke gave San'er some instructions and then went into the clinic alone, carrying a black briefcase.
Two older doctors recognized her as Professor Du's daughter from the college and smiled at her as a greeting.
Fang Minghui looked up and saw the group, a look of surprise flashing in his eyes. He didn't say anything, and continued to finish writing in the boy's medical record. Unexpectedly, the little boy sitting on the bench in front of him was restless. While Fang Minghui was looking down again, the boy reached out, took off Fang Minghui's doctor's cap, and threw it away.
Fang Minghui was both amused and exasperated. He raised his hand and tapped the little boy's head, "I just fixed your arm, and you're already being naughty. No wonder your arm dislocated."
The boy's father was busy apologizing while picking up the little boy and hitting him on the bottom a few times.
"It's alright, stop hitting him. If you hurt him any more, I'll have to show him. Okay, take him home now," Fang Minghui said with a nonchalant smile.
He didn't have much hair to begin with, and the few strands he used to cover his head slipped down from the top. He shook his head, but couldn't get them back up, so he finally just raised his hand and tucked them back up.
Xu Keke, who had just walked up to Xiao Yujie, caught a fleeting glimpse of disdain, disgust, and a hint of contempt in Xiao Yujie's eyes.
Xu Keke walked to the table next to her, squatted down, and picked up the hat. She brushed off the dust before handing it to Fang Minghui. "There are only a few strands left, just cut them off. Your hairstyle makes you look older than my dad."
"How can we easily extinguish the last spark of revolution?" Fang Minghui took the hat and gave her a look.
Fang Minghui briefly inquired about the situation and examined Li Shaojie's wounds. He then led them into the treatment room, lifting the white curtain hanging on the inner room door.
The treatment room was small. Against the wall was a narrow, army-green bed, and near the window was a three-drawer table with peeling paint, on which were trays filled with cotton wool, medicinal wine, and the like.
Besides the four of them, there was also a nurse in the treatment room. Seeing that no one else was around, Xu Keke glanced at Xiao Yujie and joked to Fang Minghui, "Senior brother, you and Sister Yujie are so lucky to be dating. You can find any excuse to see each other every day. It gives you motivation to go to work. When you get married, you'll be together day and night. How sweet!"
"Envious, aren't you?" Fang Minghui didn't hide it. Although he and Xiao Yujie hadn't been dating for long, they had already established a relationship, and it would be easier to get things done by the end of the year. Hearing Xu Keke mention it made him feel sweet inside. He pretended to be modest and said, "You don't need to be too envious. We have to work night shifts, so we can't be together every day."
Seeing that Xiao Yujie's face showed no joy, but instead darkened, Xu Keke knew that her well-intentioned reminder had not been appreciated.
Fang Minghui helped Li Shaojie sit in the chair in front of the table and began treating his wounds. A nurse was standing nearby, so Xiao Yujie didn't feel comfortable approaching. She and Xu Keke stood together at the table.
“Wen Ting, I know you're an only child, and you're probably used to everyone revolving around you. Although you probably didn't mean it, since you call me 'sister,' there are some things I have to remind you of. I just heard from Yu Mei that you went out for breakfast and were gone for a long time. That's fine, but the key point is that when you came back, you didn't bring them any food. Not to mention that Shao Jie is injured now, even your uncle and aunt are so old, and they haven't had breakfast yet. How can they stand it?”
"That's quite a big face." Xu Keke blinked as she looked at her. Although Xiao Yujie wasn't exactly ugly, she wasn't as good-looking as Du Wenting, and compared to the young Li Yumei, she was far inferior.
Stared at by Xu Keke, Xiao Yujie awkwardly raised her hand and tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing her round face. She looked even uglier now; no wonder Li Shaojie had given up on her so easily back then.
"You mean Li Shaojie's parents?" Xu Keke's face visibly darkened. "That's an exaggeration. They're not even fifty yet, younger than my parents! Where did they get such an old age? Besides, they're not children. If they're really hungry, they can just go out and buy something to eat. Even if they don't want to move, Li Shaojie has an injury on his face, but Li Yumei is there with them. And Li Shaojie's injury—you're doctors, do you think it's so serious that they can't go out to eat? They haven't eaten, so they're definitely not hungry yet."
