Chapter 84 Cinderella (Part 1)

"Auntie." The child buried his face in Shen Wangshu's arms.

Gao Sen's eyes lit up.

Although he acknowledged that Chu Xiangyun was also a thoughtful, gentle, and caring girl who had pulled him out of his dark, alcoholic life, Gao Sen had to admit that his son seemed to have disliked Chu Xiangyun from the very beginning.

Even though this beautiful and pure girl went out of her way to please him and cook his best dishes, Gao Xi never ate much, nor did he ever look at Chu Xiangyun with such affection. He had only ever seen that look in his son's eyes when he faced his deceased wife.

Thinking of his wife, Sheng Jia, Gao Sen's eyes reddened, but when he faced Sheng Yao, his wife's image slowly faded away.

"Mr. Gao." Chu Xiangyun had been a wallflower for a long time. She was a grown woman standing in the villa, but it seemed that neither the Gao family father and son nor the Sheng family's young lady who suddenly walked in paid any attention to her.

Such disregard broke Chu Xiangyun's heart. What saddened her even more was that Gao Sen seemed to have completely forgotten about her, never once glancing at her again from the very beginning. How heartbreaking this was! Just before, her image had clearly appeared in his eyes, and he would plant a grateful kiss on her forehead the morning after she had taken care of him all night.

That kiss was so tender and sweet that it filled Chu Xiangyun's heart with a joy that belonged only to her.

But this happiness was completely shattered when this Miss Sheng appeared.

"What is it?" Gao Sen asked impatiently.

He couldn't bear to look away from Shen Wangshu, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw Chu Xiangyun's frail body swaying precariously, and he couldn't help but feel a subtle pain in his heart.

“You drank so much yesterday, and even though I took care of you all night, you still don’t look well. You need to rest more.” Chu Xiangyun timidly twisted her snow-white fingers, subtly pointing out her hardship. Sure enough, she saw that the tall man’s expression softened considerably, and she couldn’t help but feel happy.

She didn't want to show off to Shen Wangshu, but she couldn't help but smile with admiration. She looked up at Gao Sen, who was looking at her with pity, and whispered, "I'm very worried about President Gao."

"You've worked hard taking care of me all night, go and get some rest," Gao Sen said gently.

Shen Wangshu coldly watched the two of them exchanging glances in front of him, then lowered his head and patted Gao Xi's little head.

He wriggled his little body and snuggled into her arms like a puppy, one of his little hands still clutching the hem of her clothes.

This is a sign of insecurity, something Shen Wangshu could easily see even without studying child psychology. Judging by this behavior alone, who would believe he's the only son of the wealthy Gao family?

Shen Wangshu suddenly smiled, toying with the fruit knife in her hand. The most fundamental tragedies in this world all stem from the love between Gao Sen and Chu Xiangyun before her eyes.

Because of their love, the Sheng family was destroyed, Sheng Yao's life was ruined, and Gao Xi, so young, hadn't even seen the beauty of the world before becoming a cold corpse. They built their happiness over the corpses of everyone else, still gloating, thinking their love was magnificent and earth-shattering. Shen Wangshu really wanted to stab them all in the back.

If we kill these two people, will the world just end like this?

Then she will receive the unknown golden light from the book to restore Ah Xuan's demon core.

But Shen Wangshu had even more worries in his heart.

The first appearance of those golden lights was after she first met Ah Xuan, married him, and lived a happy life with him. Does that mean those golden lights were formed after she and Ah Xuan had lived together?

Is Ah Xuan an existence that exists within every book, or is he special because of her? If she were to end this world so soon, what would happen to Ah Xuan? Would he be left here forever, vanishing with the smoke from the books, never to exist again, leaving no trace?

Shen Wangshu didn't want to gamble, and when she arrived in this world, she was filled with apprehensive anticipation and worry.

A change occurred within the golden space. The demon core absorbed all the golden traces. Will Ah Xuan still exist in these countless book worlds?

This is the first world where something strange has happened. Shen Wangshu prays in her heart that she will be able to meet her Ah Xuan again.

...Let those two bastards off easy. But since we can't kill them outright, let's make them pay for what they did. They deserve it.

Shen Wangshu gripped the small knife in her hand, a faint, cold smile playing on her lips. Images flashed before her eyes: Sheng Yao's disfigured face and Gao Xi's cold, lifeless body. She would have to get revenge on Gao Sen and Chu Xiangyun for all of this.

She squinted at the man and woman who were telling each other to go rest. One was tall, handsome, wealthy, and reserved; the other was beautiful, gentle, and pitiful. Yet, they wore human skin but did no human deeds, worse than animals. She suddenly smiled, and then saw the tall man abruptly turn around, looking at her with a look of panic.

"Yaoyao, don't misunderstand, Xiangyun and I have nothing going on." Gao Sen obviously didn't see Chu Xiangyun's momentary sway.

From the sweetness of being cared for by a lover to having one's heart ruthlessly torn apart, it only takes a short sentence.

“My sister has passed away, so it’s understandable that Mr. Gao likes women.” Shen Wangshu lowered her eyes and said without changing her expression, “Although a rabbit doesn’t eat the grass near its burrow, Mr. Gao is willing to take the easy way out, coming whenever he needs him and taking care of everything, which is quite good.”
