"Achen, thank you!"

Nangong Chen paused, his hand holding the spoon still. After a long while, he finally said, "There's no need to be so polite between husband and wife."

"good!"

Xiang Wan buried herself in her food, occasionally asking Nangong Chen to put food on her plate. The meal was spent with one person putting food on her plate and the other engrossed in eating.

These were things Nangong Chen was supposed to do, so Xiang Wan ate with a clear conscience, and Nangong Chen took it all for granted. This is how things should be between husband and wife. If one party is always giving, the other might initially be grateful, but over time it will become taken for granted, and they might even criticize you when you're unwilling to give, as if you've done something monstrous.
