Intern sweet story writer Su Nian, to be revived, binds to a system. Her task is to travel to various novel worlds on the verge of collapse to heal those paranoid and crazy sick and devoted male le...
The first thing to notice the change was the sycamore tree outside the window.
On an ordinary spring morning, it sprouted its first tender green bud, its veins gleaming with a translucent golden light in the rising sun. This wasn't just ordinary plant luster; it contained a faint, yet exhilarating, life force. Immediately afterward, the few pots of roses on the balcony that Xie Chen had "carefully" nurtured (using an imperceptible divine power to guide them) a few days earlier also quietly bloomed on the same day. Their petals layered upon layered, their color an unprecedented, radiant warm pink, like the glow of dawn. Their fragrance was sweet yet not cloying, seemingly capable of cleansing the soul.
Su Nian stood on the balcony, holding a glass of milk, looking at the small but clearly unusual change with some surprise. She turned to look at Xie Chen, who was frying eggs for her in the kitchen.
Xie Chen turned off the stove, placed the perfectly shaped fried egg into a plate with a cat pattern, wiped his hands, and walked to her side. He didn't look at the flowers and trees, but just quietly looked at her, his eyes as deep as a tranquil starry river.
"You felt it?" he asked softly, a gentle smile playing on his lips.
Su Nian nodded, a realization dawning on her: "Is it your power... that's recovering?"
"It's more than just recovery." Xie Chen took her hand, his fingertips warm. "It's rebirth."
He led her, his gaze sweeping across the city outside the window, and then towards the distant horizon. “The supreme god has been ‘transformed,’ its once plundered and rigid system of rules has completely collapsed. Those imprisoned and suppressed world origins and life forces are returning, evolving anew along their inherent, infinitely possible trajectories.” He paused, looking at the roses on the balcony. “Our world, as the place where the new rules first took root, benefits most significantly. Life will be more vibrant, inspiration will flow more freely, and even ordinary things will be imbued with a touch… a miraculous quality.”
This was not something he did intentionally, but rather the afterglow that flowed naturally after the rules were reconstructed, the universe healing and renewing itself.
This change is subtle yet pervasive.
Su Nian found her writing becoming exceptionally smooth; the writer's block that had once plagued her almost disappeared, and inspiration flowed like an inexhaustible spring, making her characters more vivid and lifelike. After her new book was published, it became a bestseller at an incredible speed, with readers writing letters praising it for its healing power and making them feel that "the world is a better place after reading it."
She still goes to the supermarket, carefully budgets her earnings, and drags Xie Chen to watch mindless variety shows on weekend nights, laughing until she's doubled over. Life remains the same, bubbling pot of everyday life, only now it seems a small spoonful of sugar called "miracle" has been added, giving everything just the right amount of sweetness.
Xie Chen's learning ability remains terrifying, but he is no longer limited to "The Complete Book of Home-Style Recipes" and "Analysis of Human Social Behavior." He has begun to develop a deep interest in the world itself. He uses his divine power (which he now wields with even greater ease, causing almost no disturbance) to observe the formation of a snowflake on a microscopic scale, to listen to the stories within the rings of an ancient tree, and to understand the ancient and romantic connection between the tides and the moon.
He even secretly repaired and optimized 088's core code, giving it a more free form, without Su Nian's knowledge. So one morning, Su Nian woke up to find a small robot, about the size of a palm, with a round head and a soft blue light, clumsily trying to squeeze toothpaste for her with its mechanical arm on her bedside table.
[Good morning, host!] 088's familiar voice came from the small robot's built-in speaker, carrying a cheerful, buzzing tone. [Thanks for upgrading my physical module, Boss! From now on, I can help you get snacks, find the remote control, and even perform a backflip for you when you're stuck! (Although the success rate is debatable)]
Looking at the little robot trying so hard to appear "useful," and then at Xie Chen beside her who looked like he was hiding his accomplishments, Su Nian couldn't help but burst into laughter and fell onto the bed. Her life was becoming more and more like those saccharine novels she had once written.
On a night when the stars shone exceptionally bright, Xie Chen led Su Nian out to a deserted mountaintop on the edge of the city. Far from the hustle and bustle, the night sky was like a black silk ribbon washed clean, studded with diamond-like stars.
He didn't use much divine power; he simply took her hand and sat her on a smooth boulder.
“Look there,” he said, pointing to a spot in the night sky.
Su Nian looked in the direction he pointed, initially not noticing anything unusual, but soon, her eyes widened in surprise. Among those familiar constellations, a new, exceptionally bright star had quietly appeared. Its light wasn't a cold white, but rather a warm, golden glow like the morning sun, shimmering quietly in the night sky, like a gentle, watching eye.
“That is…” Su Nian seemed to have guessed something, and her heart raced slightly.
“It’s a fragment of the Starfall God Realm.” Xie Chen’s voice sounded particularly deep and gentle in the night wind. “I placed its final core there. It’s no longer a refuge, but has become a…beacon, a coordinate, of the rules of this nascent universe.”
He turned his head and gazed at Su Nian, starlight falling into his eyes, rippling with tenderness. "It's also a promise."
"A promise?" Su Nian asked softly.
"I promise that no matter how many years pass, no matter how many worlds we travel to in the future, here, in this place with our shared memories, there will always be a star to guide us home." He held her hand, their fingers intertwined, his grip firm and warm. "Su Nian, I may have been a wanderer in endless time and space, but after meeting you, I found my only anchor."
"This earthly life, this ordinary daily routine, because of you, has become the grandest miracle for which I am willing to be forever immersed."
A night breeze carries the fresh scent of distant mountains and vegetation. The city lights below resemble an inverted galaxy, reflecting the real starry sky above.
Su Nian leaned on his shoulder, gazing at the unique golden star on the horizon, feeling the steady heartbeat and reassuring aura of the person beside her. She remembered the room where she was initially imprisoned by chains, the bizarre and fantastical mission worlds, the struggles and embraces on the verge of her soul's collapse, the shopping cart in the supermarket, the roses on the balcony, and 088's clumsy backflip.
The journey has been thrilling and tumultuous, but it has ultimately led to this moment of peace and fulfillment.
She was no longer the opportunist who only wanted to complete the task and deceive others to revive her, and he was no longer the broken soul filled with only obsession and possessiveness. They stumbled and learned how to love in each other's lives, and in the end, they became the strongest and gentlest part of each other's world.
"Xie Chen," she called softly.
"Um?"
“Have I ever told you,” she looked up and, under the dazzling starlight, gave him a smile brighter than the stars, “that being your ‘anchor’ is the luckiest and most regretless thing I’ve ever done in all my reincarnations.”
Xie Chen didn't answer, but lowered his head and pressed a kiss that carried all language, all time, and all love onto her lips.
Behind them, the golden star shone gently, like an eternal promise, gazing silently at the land it once sheltered, now teeming with life and rebirth, and at the two figures embracing on that land.
The dawn will eventually break, but love and companionship transcend rules and time, becoming eternal.
