Chapter 264 Insignificant People in the Apocalypse (Part Twelve)

Shi Lan relaxed her nerves and closed her eyes to cultivate the Chaos Technique.

In the middle of the night, several painful moans and occasional uncontrollable screams rang in her ears. Shi Lan quickly stopped her practice, opened her eyes, and saw Zhang Xiaomei's face flushed and her forehead covered with beads of sweat.

Shi Lan quickly touched her forehead and found that her temperature was alarming. She immediately got up and went to the car downstairs to find the medicine.

Shi Lan thought that since they had been traveling for so long, they would have at least prepared some medicine in case of emergency, but to her surprise, the car was full of food and there wasn't a single pill in sight.

Helpless, Shi Lan had no choice but to fill a basin with cold water and use this method to lower her temperature.

Zhang Xiaomei shook her head, muttering something to herself, her fingers sometimes clenching and sometimes reaching out to scratch at the air.

Seeing her like this, Shi Lan sighed softly. It seemed that what she had experienced in the past few days had still hurt her. However, she did not want to worry herself and deliberately showed a relieved appearance. In fact, those emotions were still stuck in her heart.

As dawn broke, Shi Lan rubbed her red eyes and gave her a cool, damp towel.

Zhang Xiaomei groggily opened her eyes and saw that Shi Lan had already gotten up. She quickly struggled to get up and said, "Sister Shi, lie down for a while longer. I'll go and cook the food and then call you."

Shi Lan pressed down on her shoulders and pulled her back into the blankets. "I'll make the food. You still have a fever, so lie down."

Zhang Xiaomei frowned, rubbing her throbbing head, and complained, "It's really bad timing that I got sick."

Shi Lan smiled, patted her head, tucked the blanket back in, went downstairs to make some congee, and took some mixed vegetables from the car. She brought them upstairs and watched her eat until she finished. Just as she was about to go downstairs, Zhang Xiaomei asked, "When are we going to set off?"

Shi Lan turned her head and said, "No rush, it's not too late to leave after you're better."

Zhang Xiaomei stood up and reached out to grab the bowl and plate from Shi Lan's hand. "No need to wait, I'm ready. We can leave in a bit."

Shi Lan gripped the edge of the plate tightly with her fingertips and said, "You had a fever all night last night, and you lost a lot of strength. It's not something you can just get better on your own."

When Zhang Xiaomei's stubborn streak kicked in, not wanting to delay Shi Lan's journey to the base, she forcefully snatched the bowl away.

"Hey, you..." Shi Lan was caught off guard and the bowls and plates were snatched away. She hurriedly went to take them back, but Zhang Xiaomei's hands were empty. The bowls and plates had disappeared into thin air in an instant.

The two locked eyes, momentarily stunned. Shi Lan excitedly grasped her arm and tentatively asked, "You've awakened your superpower?"

Zhang Xiaomei stretched out both hands, her face full of doubt, completely clueless about the situation.

Shi Lan had the original owner's memories, and based on the situation at that time, she slowly guided her, "What were you thinking just now?"

Zhang Xiaomei said, "I just want to take the dishes downstairs to wash them."

Shi Lan's mind went blank for a moment. Could it be that Zhang Xiaomei's superpower was spatial teleportation?

The two rushed downstairs, looked around but found nothing. Shi Lan wondered, could it be destroyed?

What do you think of that can disappear from the world the moment you touch it?

Shi Lan shook her head, feeling that she must have lost her mind; how could such a superpower exist in this world?

In the corner of the room, Zhang Xiaomei cried out in surprise. Shi Lan looked over and saw her holding several bowls and plates covered in porridge stains and oil.

Shi Lan rushed over and asked her, "How did you get it out?"

Zhang Xiaomei thought for a moment and said, "I was just wondering where those bowls went, and then it just popped up on its own."

Shi Lan stared at her with shining eyes and said with certainty, "Your special ability should be spatial manipulation. Close your eyes and feel it carefully to see if you can discover anything."

Zhang Xiaomei obediently closed her eyes. Shi Lan took the bowls and plates from her hands and returned. She was delighted to see that the back seat of the car was stuffed full of food that was about to overflow from Zhang Xiaomei's hands.

It is said that wealth should not be flaunted, and this saying is true everywhere.

In this day and age, food is more precious than gold. If there were three or four strong men with them, no one would dare to covet their cart of food. But if it were just two weak women like them, Shi Lan could imagine what would happen next, even if nothing actually happened.

Inside, Zhang Xiaomei ran out happily, opened the door on the side of the car, and reached her hand inside. In an instant, the back seat, which had been piled high with furniture, was completely empty.

"Sister, I can use my superpowers now!" Zhang Xiaomei said with a smile full of excitement.

Shi Lan smiled and nodded. Seeing that her face was a little pale, she asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Zhang Xiaomei shook her head, then nodded, and said, "I might have used too much force just now, and I feel a little dizzy."

Shi Lan understood; Zhang Xiaomei had only just acquired her superpower, so it was understandable that she was still adjusting.

Zhang Xiaomei rubbed her temples, feeling a bit better, and said, "Sister, I still have some space in my room. I'll go pack some more pots and pans so we won't go hungry when we camp out in the wild."

Shi Lan chuckled and joked, "Those we prepared beforehand won't go hungry even if we stay in the wild."

Zhang Xiaomei smiled somewhat shyly.

Shi Lan knew that she was trying to find her sense of self-worth, so she didn't stop her. She just told her to leave some room for them to go to a supermarket later and stock up on bottled water.

This is still considered a rural area, and farmers have the habit of storing water in jars. Shi Lan has been using the stored water for cooking and washing for the past few days, but the stored water will eventually run out. With the current power shortage and the groundwater supply not being available, Shi Lan has to plan ahead and make more preparations for the future.

Zhang Xiaomei nodded repeatedly and ran happily to the kitchen.

As dawn broke, although it was still gloomy, at least the headlights didn't need to be turned on while driving. The dark SUV roared and crashed through the zombies that were hovering at the entrance, howling and lunging at it, and headed towards the town.
