Chapter 16 Rainy Season "What are you doing in the office?"...
In the brief three-second silence, Lin Fei went through every lame excuse he could think of, and the words "went astray" were about to slip out.
Liang Yanzhe stood up from the table and walked towards her, saying, "Why didn't you say you were coming?"
Lin Fei focused her gaze on Liang Yanzhe. Her heart wouldn't beat so fast unless she looked into five pairs of curious and surprised eyes.
Just as Liang Yanzhe walked over with his back to them, someone quietly took out their phone.
Lin Fei felt embarrassed; there was no need to be so obvious.
The boy holding the phone made eye contact with her, then put the phone down again.
"If I tell you, it won't be a surprise." She enjoys creating little surprises; it brings her joy, and she's even happier if the other person likes it.
"Come in." Liang Yanzhe was still wearing his white coat and had seen many patients today, so he didn't want to have too much physical contact with Lin Fei. He took her hand and led her into the room.
Cai Cai was even more nervous than Lin Fei, standing behind the door, too afraid to move. She followed them inside.
However, Lin Fei was directly led by Liang Yanzhe to sit down in the office leather chair. She was carrying two large bags of late-night snacks and was at a loss.
Liang Yanzhe: "Ye Zhan, lend a hand to Nurse Cai Cai."
Cai Cai thought Liang Yanzhe hadn't seen her because his gaze was fixed on Lin Fei. Unexpectedly, he not only noticed her but also knew her name was Cai Cai.
"Let me do it." Ye Zhan, wearing black-rimmed glasses, stepped forward to take the late-night snack. As he held it in his hand, his arm was pulled down.
This is so heavy! It should be so easy for someone as thin as Cai Cai to carry it.
Liang Yanzhe put his hand on Lin Fei's shoulder, and she sat down on the stool.
The soft leather chair was comfortable, but with four people standing in front of her, the shortest of whom was at least 1.7 meters tall, she felt uneasy...
"Teacher Liang, this must be your wife," Tian Ying said first, and the others looked at Lin Fei with even more eagerness.
Liang Yanzhe couldn't help but laugh and ask, "How did you know?"
“We ate the cake you brought this morning. Who in our department doesn’t know you’re newly married?” Tian Ying added, “The whole hospital knows. The director who wanted to set you up on a blind date regrets that he didn’t act sooner.”
Hearing the gossip that someone at the hospital wanted to set Liang Yanzhe up on a blind date, Lin Fei's gossip-loving heart was stirred, and she stopped being nervous for a moment, listening with a calm and collected demeanor.
Liang Yanzhe also noticed the subtle change in her expression, put his hand on her shoulder, and drew her attention back to him.
"Yes, this is my wife, Lin Fei."
Liang Yanzhe was worried that Lin Fei wouldn't be able to remember too many names at once, so he didn't mention the students' names, only saying, "They are my graduate students."
The group waited for Liang Yanzhe to introduce them, and one after another they called Lin Fei "Teacher's Wife," their smiles beaming.
"I bought some food. You can take it and share it. You've worked hard working overtime." Lin Fei pointed to the late-night snacks on the tables.
Suddenly, five women older than her came up and addressed her as "Teacher's Wife," and she was still not used to it.
The four looked at Liang Yanzhe, waiting for him to speak.
Lin Fei turned around to look as well, though he didn't know why they were so afraid of Liang Yanzhe.
Liang Yanzhe said with a hint of helplessness, "Go ahead, continue revising the paper, and give it to me by next week at the latest."
It turned out that the paper wasn't finished; Liang Yanzhe had been scolding them before she arrived.
Liang Yanzhe almost never uses an unpleasant lecturing tone to educate people. Presumably, when he explains things to them face to face, the students may mistake his rigor for a reprimand.
The four of them couldn't help but cast grateful glances at Lin Fei.
If Lin Fei doesn't come, they'll probably have to stand there for another half an hour.
Tian Ying was bold. Before leaving, she made a heart shape with her hands and said, "Thank you for the midnight snack, Master's wife. You're so kind!"
After the door closed, only Liang Yanzhe and Lin Fei remained, and it instantly became quiet. Outside, it became lively as everyone discussed how to divide the late-night snack.
Lin Fei sat on the stool, pushed off the ground with his feet, spun around a few times, and looked around every corner of the office.
Upon entering, there is a brown sofa and several tables for guests. To the right, there is a large reddish-brown wooden desk with two computers on it. Next to it is a large bookcase. It is no different from the stereotypical office, except that the owner has a slight obsessive-compulsive disorder and the books are arranged from light to dark color and from tall to short.
The stool was halfway through its rotation when Liang Yanzhe stopped it.
"If you keep spinning like this, I'll get dizzy even if you don't."
Lin Fei asked with a smile, "Did I interrupt Dr. Liang's mini-lecture?"
“How can offering help be considered a disturbance?” Liang Yanzhe unbuttoned his white coat.
Lin Fei grabbed him just as he was about to take it off.
The pull was aimed directly at the belt, clearly intentional.
"Why take it off? The white coat looks so good, so sacred!" She felt that Liang Yanzhe looked very different in the white coat, with a more serious and solemn air.
Liang Yanzhe looked down; her knees were already touching his trousers.
He asked with a laugh, "Holy deity, you still do this?"
“You are sacred, I am vulgar.” She smiled brightly.
Although the language used was crude, it didn't necessarily mean she was belittling herself; on the contrary, it felt like she was praising herself.
Liang Yanzhe pulled out the corner of his clothes that had been tugged and said, "I come into contact with a lot of patients every day, and my white coat gets dirty."
He hung up his clothes, pressed a pump of hand sanitizer, and pulled Lin Fei's hand over to apply it.
The man's knuckles were large and prominent, and his palms were warm. When he brushed against her palms and the backs of her hands, he left an unforgettable, tingling sensation.
"While others apply hand cream, we apply hand sanitizer. Is this the romance that only doctors have?" Lin Fei joked. "If you smell it closely, the unique romance is the smell of alcohol."
Liang Yanzhe took out a brand new hand cream from the drawer and applied it to her again: "Madam, would you like to redo the romantic touch?"
"Hey, let me smell it." Lin Fei grabbed Liang Yanzhe's hand and touched it with his nose. "A romantic scent—it's Dr. Liang."
Liang Yanzhe chuckled: "Is this your... cheesy pickup line?"
"It's a love confession that smells like alcohol mixed with the scent of gardenias," Lin Fei corrected.
Liang Yanzhe went to the sofa first and opened the late-night snack they had specially left, filling the room with the aroma of beef offal.
"Would you like something to drink? I'll order you something," he asked.
Lin Fei was still sitting at his desk, propping his chin up, staring at the bowl of beef offal and secretly swallowing: "Can I eat this too? Didn't you just tell me I can't eat too many carbs?"
He could tell she really wanted it, so he comforted her, "Today is an exception."
She put on a bright smile, ran to the sofa and sat down next to him, picked up her chopsticks and stuffed a piece of beef tendon into her mouth.
"Eat slowly, no one's rushing you." Liang Yanzhe got up to pour her some water.
The man sat to the side. Lin Fei ate half of her food and put down her chopsticks. She didn't feel the need to finish the whole bowl before she could calm down.
Surprisingly, Liang Yanzhe didn't mind that the chopsticks she had used were used. He finished the rest and cleaned the takeout box.
But after eating, he first opened the window to air out the smell and then rinsed his mouth.
Okay, it's still Liang Yanzhe with mild obsessive-compulsive disorder and germaphobia.
Lin Fei imitated it quite well, using a bottle of mouthwash from his cabinet to rinse his mouth.
She breathed on her palm a few times, smelled it, and said, "Mr. Liang, where did you buy this mouthwash? It smells so good."
"We have this model at home too, you can use it however you like."
Liang Yanzhe received a phone call and sat back down at his desk to look for materials.
Lin Fei paced around his office, talking on the phone for more than ten minutes without any intention of hanging up, and it seemed he had no plans to go home tonight.
When she got tired, she walked over to his side, leaned against his desk, stretched out her hand to steady herself, and listened to him use some professional jargon she didn't understand. Feeling a little bored, she took off his tie clip and played with it for a while.
Even now, the man's gaze is still fixed on her bangs, which she hadn't quite combed while washing her face.
She used her tie clip to fasten her bangs.
"Is it pretty?" she asked softly.
Liang Yanzhe smiled indulgently, showing no displeasure at her behavior. While answering her questions, he also took the time to tidy up the stray hairs on her forehead.
Lin Fei got tired of standing, and regardless of that he was in the office, he pushed himself up with his hands, sat on the table, and swung his legs like a cat wagging its tail when it was impatient.
"Director Song, excuse me for interrupting. I will explain the issues you raised in detail during tomorrow's preoperative consultation. I have some family matters to attend to first." Liang Yanzhe spoke gently and calmly, and even his abrupt words were pleasant to hear.
Director Song realized it was already late at night, said a few words of apology, and then hung up the phone.
"Something's wrong at home? Do you mean I'm causing trouble?" Lin Fei shrugged. "I'm very well-behaved."
She doesn't look docile at all right now; she looks like she's here to ask questions.
"Just an excuse." Liang Yanzhe quickly tidied up the documents on his desk. "Let's go back."
"I thought you weren't planning to go back, and that you were hiding in the hospital avoiding me." Lin Fei remained motionless.
Liang Yanzhe: "I thought you needed time."
"Oh! I get it. You thought I needed time to adjust since we've just started living together, so the great Dr. Liang was willing to sacrifice herself, giving me her home while she stayed busy at the hospital." Lin Fei hummed softly. "Should I applaud you?"
"Are you sure?" Liang Yanzhe leaned back in his chair, slightly increasing the distance between them, and his gaze became level with Liang Yanzhe's.
Lin Fei pulled Liang Yanzhe's hand, the one with the green Submariner watch, and drew circles in his palm: "If you need time, I can give it to you."
The girl's words made Liang Yanzhe laugh.
They really are fearless.
Liang Yanzhe moved closer to her: "Lower your head, take off your tie clip, let's go home."
Lin Fei lowered her head slightly: "I think I can take it home."
A tie clip is not a hair clip after all; it's not easy to untangle once it gets tangled in your hair. Liang Yanzhe was also worried about hurting her, so he simply gave up.
"Take it back," he relented.
Curious, she asked, "Is it expensive?"
"It shouldn't be expensive. Xiaoyi ordered two last year, and she gave me one of them."
Upon hearing the word "customized," she leaned closer again and said timidly, "You'd better take it down quickly, I'm afraid I'll lose it, and I can't afford to lose all my possessions."
“It’s okay if you lose it. The two tie clips she ordered are similar in style. She gave the other one to her fiancé. He’s been unhappy that I have this tie clip for a long time. If it’s gone, he will be very grateful to you.” Liang Yanzhe meant to comfort Lin Fei and tell her not to feel guilty, but she couldn’t help but laugh after hearing it.
Lin Fei took it off himself: "Come stand here, I'll help you fasten it."
She was unwilling to move at all.
Liang Yanzhe stood up and stood in front of her, at the perfect height from when she was sitting.
Lin Fei compared the options and hesitated, wondering where it would be best to place it.
The office door was suddenly knocked on very hard. Her hand trembled, and her tie clip fell to the ground, bounced a few times, and then disappeared into some corner.
It seems I'll have to accept Liang Yanyi's fiancé's thanks.
Liang Yanzhe didn't say a word; the person outside pushed the door open and entered.
"I heard you bought some late-night snacks, Fei... Wow, are you two out of your minds? What are you doing in the office?" From this angle, Zhong Shuwen's posture couldn't be described as ambiguous; it was downright morally reprehensible!
