Raising a Child in the Apocalypse Isn't Easy: Go, My Good Baby!

In a zombie apocalypse, while survivors and zombies fought tooth and nail, Shu Lan hid in a garbage dump, using the stench to mask human scent and evade zombies. There, she gave birth to her human ...

Chapter 33 Kill her.

"I'm very touched, but not moved."

About an hour later, Shu Maomao called out softly, "Mommy."

Shu Lan's worries finally disappeared. Her voice was sweet to begin with, and it was even softer when she spoke to her son.

"You're awake, are you feeling unwell?"

"No." Shu Maomao sat up straight, his cheeks a little swollen from sleep, his eyes unfocused for a long time. After a while, he said with a sour face, "Mommy, I want to find a superpower that can make me grow taller."

Anselin poured cold water on me in the back seat: "Even if you grow taller, you still can't beat me."

Shu Maomao's face turned even uglier: "No one is talking to you!"

"I insist on talking to you."

Shu Lan had the illusion that there were two children in the car, and her four-year-old son was obviously more mature. He snorted coldly and ignored Anselin.

"Unfortunately, the 49th District base was captured due to the infiltration of third-level zombies disguised as survivors. Less than 40% of the population survived. All bases are requested to strictly guard against it. If there are suspected infected people or high-level zombies among those who defect, do not hesitate, execute them immediately! Do not hesitate, execute them immediately!"

The sudden serious tone brought the country a heavy bad news like a death knell. The dusk seemed to be covered with a layer of gray, foreshadowing the world that was about to enter darkness.

The radio in the car was reporting the horrific deeds of the third-level zombies, and Shu Lan under the car was trying to open the door of a villa with the third-level zombies.

There was no way around it. I couldn’t get to District 9 before dark, so I had to stop and look for a place to stay.

"Lily, get out of the way."

Shu Lan pulled Shu Maomao and ran behind the stone lion. They watched Anselin break the door lock and kick the door open. A group of zombies crowded at the door swarmed out and headed straight towards Shu Lan.

Anselin stood in the middle, making a low growl in her throat. The zombies, like soldiers who had heard orders from their superiors, shrank their necks, turned around and walked out of the villa, staggering and disappearing into the sunset.

Shu Maomao listened carefully to the sound made by Anselin, with a faint light flashing in his eyes.

Shu Lan looked at the group of zombies that left, and saw that there were both old and young among them: "They look like they are a family."

Anselin shrugged. "Probably one of them got infected, and his family was reluctant to hand him over for execution. They thought they could just move him to a place where no one knew, secretly lock him up, and feed him raw meat. They ended up underestimating the zombies' power, and the whole family was bitten to death in the end. There were many such cases in the early days."

Shu Lan followed her into the villa. It was very dirty inside, with bloodstains everywhere. Occasionally, rotten limbs could be seen in the corners, and the air was filled with all kinds of unpleasant odors.

The traces left behind show how fierce the battle was.

Anselin said, "This house is no good. No one can live in it."

Before getting in the car and leaving, Shu Lan took a look at the big house that looked particularly gorgeous under the setting sun. It had snow-white walls, a vermilion roof, a garden and a pond downstairs, and a golden swing hidden under the wisteria trellis.

It's beautiful, but the inside is in tatters.

Fortunately, they found a safe and clean place to stay before dark, but Shu Lan's spirits were no longer as high as before.

After she finished cooking the noodles, she placed them in front of Shu Maomao, while she herself stared at the fire in a daze.

An Selin asked: "You haven't eaten for a day, and now you don't eat noodles, what are you thinking?"

Shu Lan sighed, "Thinking about the meaning of life, my previous dream was to become rich before I died and own a castle-like house. But now that house is in front of me, I can't stay there for even a second."

Anselin smiled and said, "That kind of decoration is not uncommon. I'll see similar ones again in the future."

"But they don't belong to me anymore. They all belong to those dead zombies. I'm just a passerby staying here. As the old saying goes, if it's destined for you, you'll get it eventually. If it's not destined for you, don't force it. Maybe it's just not destined for me."

Anselin asked, "Do you believe in fate?"

Shu Lan shook her head: "Actually, I don't believe it. I will definitely fight for what I want."

Anselin nodded: "It's good that you don't believe it. I don't believe it either."

Shu Lan turned around and said aggrievedly, "So, considering that I've worked so hard driving for you these past two days, you'll let me and my son go when we get to District 9 tomorrow, right, sister?"

An Selin looked up at her. Shu Lan held her chin with her hands, her face full of obedience: "Sister, are you in a good mood now? If not, I'll tell you a few more jokes."

"Okay, go ahead."

Shu Lan perked up and cleared her throat. "There's a guy who got into a fight and was stabbed over twenty times. He didn't say a word the whole time. Can you guess why?"

"Why?"

"Because the first blow from the other party hit Big Brother's vocal cords."

"Ha ha ha ha……"

Shu Lan knew that Anselin had a low sense of humor, but she didn't know it was so low.

With a little trick, she saw Anselin's back teeth.

Telling your best jokes to people with low humor thresholds is a great sense of accomplishment. Shu Lan instantly got excited: "There was a patient who went to see a doctor. He said, 'Doctor, I have four broken fingers.' The doctor asked, 'How do you feel now?'"

"How about it?"

Shu Lan clenched her fists and placed them in front of her chest, only raising her thumb. She said seriously, "Doctor, what do you say?"

"Ha ha ha ha……"

Shu Maomao raised her head from the pot: "Mommy, what's so funny?"

Shu Lan reached out and pressed his little head: "If it's not funny, don't listen. Eat your noodles. Sister, I have another one..."

As the night deepened, after telling a few jokes, Shu Lan cheered herself up. After dinner, she hummed a song, wiped her son's hands and face with freshly boiled hot water, made the bed and lay down.

"Goodnight, baby."

Shu Maomao was not sleepy at all, but he still curled up in Shu Lan's arms, waiting quietly until she fell asleep, then he tiptoed out, put on his shoes, and pushed open the door.

In the open space where they had cooked before, Anselin was still sitting there, stirring the fire with a stick, the firelight illuminating her pale face.

Shu Maomao called out to her, "Hey, let's fight again."

He planned to use both of his superpowers together this time, and he didn't believe that he couldn't defeat this annoying woman.

Anselin looked up at the moon in the sky that looked like a silver hook: "Listen."

After the words fell, the surroundings became quiet again.

Shu Maomao heard roars coming one after another from a distant place, carried by the wind, very faint but very loud.

Anselin stood up and said, "I'm leaving now. We'll fight next time we meet."

She stepped barefoot across the fire and onto the road, her red skirt swaying in the wind. In the moonlight, she looked back at the child at the door and said, "Growing taller is useless. You need to have more superpowers."

Shu Maomao frowned, moved his fingers, and the soil rose from the ground, forming an earthen prison that blocked Anselin.

An Selin smiled and said, "Shu Maomao, you will meet someone named Jiang He in District 9. Kill her."

The dungeon was not broken, but the figure of the woman in the red dress disappeared like broken bubbles.

Shu Maomao used his special powers to dismantle the earthen prison. It was empty. There was nothing moving around except the shadows of trees swaying in the wind.

Where did that woman go?

Shu Maomao suddenly thought of something, opened his eyes wide, turned around, ran upstairs, lifted the quilt, saw Shu Lan still inside, and rushed over to hug her.

Fortunately, Mommy didn't disappear with her.

Shu Lan's fragile body was violently bumped by her calf-like son, and she had to wake up even if she didn't want to.

“Ahem…”
