Chapter 83

Jiang Yan stood close to Shu Yun, looking down at Shu Yun's gradually unfocused gaze.

He was so close that if he leaned down slightly, their noses could touch. However, this was an illusion; they seemed very close, but in reality, they were very far apart.

He couldn't touch her, and she couldn't see him.

This is just a memory of hers, her past, a past in which he did not exist.

Even knowing that this was an illusion, Jiang Yan still raised his hand to help Shu Yun cover her chest, which was bleeding profusely.

Jiang Yan's slender, jade-like hand covered the large hole in Shu Yun's chest, but it had no effect. Blood flowed out like water, staining her white dress red, much like the scarlet dress she would later wear.

He stood silently before her, where the cowardly and timid woman was trembling as she poked and prodded a dagger at Shu Yun's chest, causing her considerable torment.

Shu Yun was in excruciating pain, but she did not resist, nor did she have the strength to resist.

Her legs went weak and she couldn't stand up straight, so Anhe used one hand to support her. The dagger was still stuck in her chest. If she suddenly fell, Anhe wouldn't be able to pull the knife out in time, and it could very likely injure her heart.

Jiang Yan's evil aura was more violent than ever before, thick black energy swirled around him, and bloodshot eyes surged forth.

The demonic energy repeatedly attacked An He and Pei Ju, who was lying on the bed, but each time it passed through their bodies. This was an illusion, so it couldn't really attack them.

"Shu Yun," he said, his voice trembling as he struggled to look away from her tattered chest, "how much do you love him..."

He knew she wouldn't hear him, and it was precisely because she couldn't hear him that he was finally asking her the question he had always wanted to ask.

"Do you still think of me as a child you picked up in the mortal world, someone you pitied and gave me as charity?"

Do you still like Pei Ju?

After asking the question, Jiang Yan was lost in thought for a moment, then answered himself: "Most likely, you gave him your heart without hesitation."

"And what about me?" He paused. "I confessed my feelings to you, but you already have someone else in your heart. Are you just laughing at me?"

"I..." Jiang Yan's eyes were bloodshot, and her voice choked with sobs, "I've been watching over you for so many years, have you ever, ever liked me even a little bit?"

Liquid rolled down his face without warning, leaving two streaks on his pale skin.

Jiang Yan was oblivious.

When he was a child, he was a slave in a brothel in the human world, and Jiang Yan never shed a tear when he was trampled and insulted. Later, Shu Yun abandoned him twice, but he still didn't shed a tear. In the dark abyss, he suffered unbearable pain after consuming demon cores and digesting demon power, but he didn't care much.

Now, in this illusion, he watched as Shu Yun let her heart be ripped out without any resistance, and he felt immense grief and boundless exhaustion.

He went to great lengths to follow her, begging for her love, and he was utterly exhausted by it.

A century later, looking back, he still hadn't gotten anything he wanted.

The illusion had achieved its goal; all the surrounding scenery had vanished, leaving only the scene of Shu Yun having her heart ripped out.

The surrounding white light dissipated, revealing the true appearance of the underground world.

The air was thick with dark, grotesque rocks, a stark contrast to the illusionary realm. Here, the demonic energy was so intense that not a single ray of light could penetrate the darkness.

As soon as Shu Yun stepped out of the illusion, she saw Jiang Yan with bloodshot eyes and a face full of tears.

She was stunned. Jiang Yan... he was crying?

Shu Yun quickly stepped forward, walked up to Jiang Yan, and gently called out to him, "Jiang Yan."

His eyes were bloodshot and unfocused, as if he were still trapped in an illusion.

The darkness in his eyes had been completely replaced by blood. No matter how Shu Yun called out "Jiang Yan," she couldn't wake him. His fingertips, hanging by his sides, trembled violently.

She glanced down at Jiang Yan's long, handsome hand, her fair fingers grasping his hand, channeling divine power into it to suppress the surging evil energy within him.

“Jiang Yan,” she held Jiang Yan’s hand tightly, but even so, it seemed that her body temperature did not transfer to him at all, and his hand remained cold. “Jiang Yan, that’s just an illusion. Concentrate and don’t let it lead you by the nose.”

"Jiang Yan, can you hear me?" She raised her other hand and covered Jiang Yan's cheek to wipe away his tears, her voice full of anxiety. "When you were still a mortal, you could even defeat a demon god. Don't lose to this little illusion."

From the moment she found Jiang Yan, a century had passed, and this was the first time she had ever seen him cry. Her hands trembled uncontrollably as she wiped away his tears.

What exactly did he see in the illusion?

This can't go on; she has to think of a solution.

As the saying goes, the more flustered you are, the less likely you are to succeed. This is exactly the case for Shu Yun now. Countless spells he has seen in the past are flashing through his mind as he searches for information about the illusion.

If it weren't my own illusion, how could I intervene and pull the person trapped in the illusion out?

Just as Shu Yun was deep in thought, a dark shadow suddenly shot out from not far away and crashed straight into the two of them.

Shu Yun flicked his sleeve and unleashed divine power; the collision of forces sent rocks flying.

She pulled Jiang Yan away in the opposite direction from the approaching shadow. Her crimson dress fluttered without wind, as if a gust of wind was blowing through her sleeves, wisps of it leaking out and surrounding her and Jiang Yan, protecting them.

The dark figure was shattered by Shu Yun, turning into scattered demonic energy that floated in the air, where it was continuously purified by the divine power covering it.

As if sensing the divine power emerging from the ground, the surrounding demonic energy began to slowly gather towards her.

Then, right before Shu Yun's eyes, they coalesced, gradually transforming from scattered demonic energy into a dense mass of demonic energy, which then attacked Shu Yun.
